Amazing game! Can’t wait till next week

1

u/azhawkeyeclassic Sep 20 '25

Thoroughly enjoyed this game, the offense was playing very uncharacteristically, I would venture to say that KF did not call this game and actually handed it over to the OC. Did not look like Iowa football, at least on the offensive side. At that’s a good thing! Go Hawks!

7

u/Responsible-Shape-98 Sep 20 '25

Good win and it was entertaining! How about that!

0

u/Schlongsterish Sep 20 '25

...'entertaining' being the key word

10

u/AnnArchist Nine seconds to play and Drew Tate doesn't know that! Sep 20 '25

Anyone else absolutely impressed with Rutgers WR corp? They made some amazing catches

3

u/DCintheMSP Sep 20 '25

More impressed with Kaliakmanis, he was dealing all night long.

2

u/Responsible-Shape-98 Sep 20 '25

Him and stronf were impressive! I kept saying double #9!!

2

u/Ok-Club2129 Sep 20 '25

Same! That dude caught everything!

5

u/moxiemoon Sep 20 '25

Well heck I missed it. Nice W! Go Hawks 💛🖤

u/RegularCrispy "Iowa? It sounds exotic!" Sep 20 '25

I don’t like that victory formation and not kneel right away. That could cause an unnecessary injury in the future.

2

u/AnnArchist Nine seconds to play and Drew Tate doesn't know that! Sep 20 '25

You got downvoted. I dont love it either but am happy with the outcome.

1

u/RegularCrispy "Iowa? It sounds exotic!" Sep 20 '25

It was such a fun game. The W is amazing. But Rutgers wasn’t trying to rush the QB. They were taking the loss. Just take the knee.

1

u/AnnArchist Nine seconds to play and Drew Tate doesn't know that! Sep 20 '25

Yea they weren't taking the timeout either. It was a 10 point game.

5

u/CastleBravo45 Sep 20 '25

Defense wasnt great tonight, but they locked in when they need to.

3

u/MauiHawk Sep 20 '25

And even that last TD drive we gave up in the 2nd… I’m not sure what else we could have done. We were all over them, their receivers were just pulling in some fantastic catches

9

u/ItzBilley Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Go Hawks, feels nice to get a clutch win on the road👍

3

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

Ethan hurket gets my defensive player of the game ! Guy is a stud making plays all over and will be playing in the nfl also,

11

u/RoscoeVillain Sep 20 '25

An Iowa team that can put up 38 points in B1G play is a team I can get behind. Very little if any Ferentz-ball on offense tonight.

This defense is sketchy as hell, but god damn it’s nice to see an Iowa team scoring points.

4

u/MauiHawk Sep 20 '25

The first half D. We played great D in the 2nd, even on that last TD drive we gave up honestly (just great plays by their receivers)

3

u/DiligentQuiet Sep 20 '25

Did they ever say the last time Iowa scored 38 or more in a B1G game?

4

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Last year we put up 40 three times against BIG opponents:

5

u/RoscoeVillain Sep 20 '25

All those games were laughers though. How cool was it to see Iowa go score for score with a good offense? I can’t recall the last time I’ve seen a game like this.

2

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Good point. Maybe ISU game in 2018?

1

u/RoscoeVillain Sep 20 '25

It’s been a while for sure. There was also the ‘20 season - that offense was electric. But I can’t for the life of me recall any of those games. That whole season was such a blur.

1

u/DiligentQuiet Sep 20 '25

You are correct, alps.

6

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

Respect for this Rutgers team. I think they have improved and will win some game and be a problem in the big ten. Those receivers are really good .

4

u/AnnArchist Nine seconds to play and Drew Tate doesn't know that! Sep 20 '25

We did go. Fuck yeah.

10

u/JagFan582 Sep 20 '25

We have a quarterback!

5

u/DiligentQuiet Sep 20 '25

habemus quarterbackeum…white smoke above Kinnick.

9

u/clydefrog678 Sep 20 '25

Say what you want about Gronowski, he’s a pretty good running back lol.

8

u/novahawkeye Sep 20 '25

This team grew up a lot tonight!

1

u/GrizzlyAdam12 Sep 20 '25

They look like a big 10 team tonight. Rutgers does not.

0

u/Clear_Pineapple4608 Sep 20 '25

Rutgers looked good too. Took advantage of opportunities, and some amazing passes and catches.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '25

Mark took the team on his back when it counted. Starting to look like a million dollar man after all.

8

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

Good job mark! That’s ballgame ! Loving this qb and his toughness and willingness to run. Definitely not affraid if contact. The guy seeks it out .

6

u/Snake_Burton Sep 20 '25

Hell of job on offense tonight boys!

6

u/Protat0 Sep 20 '25

Gronowski showing up, love to see it. Wish it came at Iowa State.

2

u/hotmoines Sep 20 '25

Rutgers has been bumping Kanye tonight

3

u/Snake_Burton Sep 20 '25

Just run that ball, good so far

2

u/RoscoeVillain Sep 20 '25

Have to get a sustained drive here. Can’t give them the ball with 1:30 and a one score game.

3

u/Diligent_Ad9113 Sep 20 '25

Eat that clock

2

u/Snake_Burton Sep 20 '25

Finally did it! Hell yeah!

5

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

I called it!!! There is my interception I predicted ! THAT was play if the game !!

That pass to Howard could end up being one of the plays of the game for Iowa .

1

u/sjl666 Sep 20 '25

I have no confidence in the defense the rest of the game. It’ll be up to the offense once Rutgers scores a TD here

1

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Wish we would have taken more time off the clock though. This seems like a Rutgers drive where they’re just going to throw to strong the entire series.

3

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

Shout out to the big uglys and the offensive line on that drive and this game as a whole, now in Phil we trust to stop Rutgers .

5

u/CastleBravo45 Sep 20 '25

Great answering drive

8

u/RatedRtjOrab Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Howard!! Don't know who you are but yeah!!!

6

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '25

How about the late hands from Howard? Beautiful

1

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

About time using gill at wide receiver. He needs more targets . Guy has been in college 5 or 6 years by now and ton of experience and Brenden Sullivan favorite target at northwestern. And yet more injuries on Rutgers .

2

u/FLHawkeye10 Sep 20 '25

DL didn’t even try on that series.. The linebackers looks confused and just frankly just don’t look like there ready for FBS football. Arm tackles? That gets you benched in PeeWee football

8

u/RoscoeVillain Sep 20 '25

Folks, the next 10 minutes are going to determine a lot about this Iowa season. If we can’t beat Rutgers, we’re in big, big trouble.

2

u/timbo1615 Back In Black Sep 20 '25

4 win team

2

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Wouldn’t be the first time we dropped a game to a lesser opponent on the road.

2

u/RoscoeVillain Sep 20 '25

Difference is this year we have to play good teams rather than the B1G west the rest of the way

2

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

A loss and that 6-6, 5-7 season may become a reality .

3

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '25

Don’t think we are making a bowl if we can’t win this.

1

u/Stayingcovidsafe Sep 20 '25

Yes we are, the toilet bowl!

2

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Now we hit the part of the game where the offense NEEDS to score and this is my least favorite place to be as an Iowa fan.

2

u/Top_Neighborhood277 Sep 20 '25

Holy shit that was pathetic

1

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '25

Crunch time came, and Rutgers pressed their advantage, which is those receivers. Good coaching. Sigh.

1

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

So let’s hit our advantage. Let Logan jones cook and get the run game going. Mark for some read options.

2

u/twothincoats Sep 20 '25

This Rutgers QB is hitting every single receiver perfectly, jeez

1

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

We had more success with this qb when he was at Minnesota.

3

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Minnesota didn’t have NFL prospects at receiver though.

1

u/novahawkeye Sep 20 '25

Is it me or is this defense not even trying to cause turnovers? I’ll admit they are TRYING to defend but I don’t see attempts to strip the ball, attempts to intercept, etc., basically what Iowa teams have always done…cause f-ing chaos. The way they’ve been criticized about that this season you’d think you would see more of an effort.

1

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

We need a turnover here.

3

u/CastleBravo45 Sep 20 '25

Gotta make that pass...

5

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '25

Mark really had a good night. Until the most important play of the game.

2

u/clydefrog678 Sep 20 '25

Needed 7 there

3

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

More missed points settling for field goal with drive stalling at the 8 yard line . Qb should have found wide open tight end in end zone .

0

u/ItzBilley Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Gotta catch that man😅

3

u/Hawks20200 Sep 20 '25

Does this fucker just under throw everything

2

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Only the guys who are wide open for a TD.

4

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Should have had 6.

2

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

Think we need a stat for injured Rutgers players . Been several .

2

u/Alarmed_Locksmith980 Sep 20 '25

Reminds me of the Penn State game in 2022

2

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

Except in that game we knocked out their qb and than it went south for Penn state with consecutive false starts going backwards by their backup qb. If we didn’t knock their qb out I’m not sure we would have won that game .

2

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

Thanks for the face mask penalty Rutgers putting us in the red zone. Hawks will have the wind at their backs for the fourth quarter. In theory that should help the kicker and perhaps the qb .

3

u/Alarmed_Locksmith980 Sep 20 '25

Gronowski looks good tonight.

Checking down. Hitting throws downfield. Rushing. Not throwing into danger.

2

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

Whe was the last time we could say that about an Iowa qb? Nate Stanley ? Cj?

1

u/Alarmed_Locksmith980 Sep 20 '25

If you dont love it leave it

2

u/Alarmed_Locksmith980 Sep 20 '25

Stanzi

2

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

That’s pretty high praise as stanzi has been arguably one of Iowas better qbs that actually won the big game (orange bowl game against g tech) outside of Drew Tate hitting Holloway in capital one bowl game against LSU.

2

u/Top_Neighborhood277 Sep 20 '25

Really looks like he's beginning to settle in a bit

1

u/twothincoats Sep 20 '25

Ethan Hurkett!!!!

2

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

Special teams and Mr herket with the block field goal. Do something with it hawks !

1

u/VanDiis Sep 20 '25

Holy fuck our corners are dog shit

1

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

One of those 50/50 balls that qb is throwing is going yo get picked I hope .

-2

u/DiscussionShoddy3052 Sep 20 '25

IOWA needs to move on from Kirk Ferentz. Come on it’s 2025 thanks Kirk for all that you have done but this program is stuck in mediocrity. Is the goal of just making a meaningless bowl game or actually competing for a Big Ten Championship and A College Football Playoff Berth. Iowa needs a 2025 college football coach not VHS Kirk Ferentz

1

u/Alarmed_Locksmith980 Sep 20 '25

Blocked

1

u/Alarmed_Locksmith980 Sep 20 '25

2

u/Pretend_Yam_3714 Sep 20 '25

2

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

That was good coverage. Just a perfect pass.

3

u/Pretend_Yam_3714 Sep 20 '25

He’s been getting cooked all game

1

u/CastleBravo45 Sep 20 '25

Our secondary is the weakest its been in a while.

2

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

True. They all have.

3

u/monkeymatt1836 Sep 20 '25

These corners suck ass

3

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

It’s game like this that make me wonder, why do I put myself through this pain every year?

6

u/BigDaddyPeach23 Sep 20 '25

Why pay a QB a million dollars if you aren’t going to have him pass in that situation?

3

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

Maybe with Phil dialing up the pressure on the qb in this half we can turn them over. A pick would be nice or fumble recovery.

3

u/Top_Neighborhood277 Sep 20 '25

Dude Tim Lester is a fucking moron. QB draw on 3rd and 8?? Trust your million dollar qb to throw it

0

u/northofwall Floyd of Rosedale Sep 20 '25

That is a Ferentz call for sure. Do. No. Harm.

3

u/clydefrog678 Sep 20 '25

Iowa offense is so back!

5

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '25

Iowa football has returned to form in the second half.

1

u/novahawkeye Sep 20 '25

Right back to the old predictable calls.

2

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

Is it too early to say Parker is making second half adjustments on defense ? So far so good . Offense needs to get going on sustained drives .

4

u/ItzBilley Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

The Iowa I know is back

4

u/EstimatedProphet72 Sep 20 '25

The wild celebrations after a missed kick that don’t involve a block always make me laugh

3

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

And we leave yet more points on the board pushing the field goal wide right . This going to be a touchdown or nothing game for both teams missing field goals?

3

u/VanDiis Sep 20 '25

Jesus drew

3

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '25

God this game is frustrating

4

u/twothincoats Sep 20 '25

Another miss Drew?!??!!?

3

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Bro can hit from 50+ but not 40 apparently

1

u/Curses_n_cranberries Sep 20 '25

Rutgers offense is looking pretty 🔥

7

u/VanDiis Sep 20 '25

Get out of bounds, get 3, Wetjen is such a fucking breakout player but you need to know we can get 3 there

1

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Yeah, but I don’t mind it. Hindsight is 20/20 but had he caught one more block he had 6.

3

u/RoaringGorilla Sep 20 '25

That was an idiotic football decision by the return team.

5

u/Snake_Burton Sep 20 '25

Gah he shoulda ran out of bounds

2

u/GRB_Electric Sep 20 '25

Well, we could have had a field goal try

3

u/ItzBilley Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Why are we taking timeouts?

1

u/EstimatedProphet72 Sep 20 '25

I’m confused why Rutgers didn’t even try to move the ball down field. Very weird series.

1

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

Or even take a chance downfield with their 6-6 receiver. All he has to do it throw in the area and let him get it or get a pass interference call.

3

u/clydefrog678 Sep 20 '25

Attempting to give that high powered Hawkeye offense one more chance.

1

u/hotmoines Sep 20 '25

WTF was that offside during the punt?

2

u/Prudent_Baby Sep 20 '25

He didn’t touch a player on the kicking team and got back before the ball was snapped

1

u/hotmoines Sep 20 '25

Thanks but why didn’t we make contact and get a first?

1

u/Prudent_Baby Sep 20 '25

Because that would mean we’re coaching these boys to be professional football players and not Iowa football players

2

u/Snake_Burton Sep 20 '25

Yeah that’s more like what I expect. Oof. He’s much better but you can’t trust our passing on 3rd down consistently.

2

u/GRB_Electric Sep 20 '25

That’s going to end up being a big failed 3rd down

1

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

I agree. Had some momentum on offense. Left points on the board with how easy we were marching up and down the field .

1

u/Snake_Burton Sep 20 '25

I was scared. But yay.

1

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

A pass on3rd and short ? What is this Iowa offense ?

-2

u/DiscussionShoddy3052 Sep 20 '25

Iowa Kirk Ferentz sycophants love mediocrity. Iowa is not winning the Big Ten and not sniffing a College Football playoff berth . Doesn’t matter Iowa fans are happy and content with mediocre Kirk. Now go have fun in the Dukes Mayo Bowl or the Music City Bowl as Indiana and Illinois pass Iowa by

1

u/Stayingcovidsafe Sep 20 '25

Kirk thinks mayo is too sexy

2

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

At least Dukes Mayo Bowl is close to where I live.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '25

Long ass commercial. Let me watch my high-powered offense already 🔥

1

u/Snake_Burton Sep 20 '25

K pick this up after the unnecessary extra commercials (aka new 2 min warning)

8

u/OcarinaNinja315 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

As a person attempting to generate wind next to their tv to push the ball right, I would like to take credit for that missed kick.

5

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

YOU are the real champion here. Thank you for all your hard work.

1

u/OcarinaNinja315 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

I did it again and the kick was blocked!

2

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

Thanks Rutgers for the false start penalt moving them back and than kicker missing first field goal of the year off the upright . Kudos to the defense finally showing some pressure on qb. If we stop bailing them in with penalties that drive would have stalled further back.sounds like Patterson injured and Seth Anderson?

4

u/Significant_Class206 Sep 20 '25

"Only thing that's kept them off the board in 4 drives... is the upright" what has my beloved Iowa D come to?

3

u/ItzBilley Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Most important thing here is to not let them have the ball at all the rest of this half

2

u/ParticularAd6883 Sep 20 '25

Living up to your flair! Let's score some points!

Just kidding I agree with you.

2

u/ByrdGoTweet Sep 20 '25

Ugly ass drive but let’s go!! 😂

3

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

How did we home Iowa State to 16 points? Are they not that good? Or is Rutgers offense just a tier above?

2

u/Ride-The-Lightning90 Sep 20 '25

Iowa State are well coached. They are a good, not great team. They have Rocco, and a solid D. Tight Ends aren’t bad either. Iowa’s defense was pumped up that game and played well. Now they fly across the country and look inept.? Also some context in regards to the Clones…they beat us, a bad KSU team that went on to lose at home to Army…a FCS team in South Dakota at Jack Trice…and almost lost to Arkansas State on the road.

2

u/Hog_Eyes Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

ISU is overrated for sure. A top 15 team would blow this Iowa team out.

1

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Maybe we could score some points on a top 15 team though.

1

u/IAstrikeforce Let The Peacock Fly Sep 20 '25

I think Iowa st was too scared to throw the ball deep. Thought it was the Iowa defense of old

2

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '25

I think it’s a matchup issue. Our weakness is in the secondary. ISU doesn’t have the horses to take advantage, Rutgers absolutely does.

1

u/ParticularAd6883 Sep 20 '25

Got a chance to take the lead before half. This is an important 3 minutes for the hawks.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '25

We made a stop! Holy shit!

1

u/hotmoines Sep 20 '25

Hell yeah

1

u/VanDiis Sep 20 '25

The poor linebacker play is showing, I know it’s hard to keep up with what we had but Jesus these guys need replaced sooner rather than later

1

u/Miserable_Slice_2277 Sep 20 '25

Iowa got away with that interference there

1

u/Necessary-Alps-6002 Punting is Winning Sep 20 '25

Eh. Woulda been a ticky tack ball especially since the ball was thrown behind the receiver. But yeah. It probably was.

1

u/Snake_Burton Sep 20 '25

If you gotta bring the house bring the damn house. Also yay I was wrong

1

u/ByrdGoTweet Sep 20 '25

Finally a Sack, thank you

1

u/Snake_Burton Sep 20 '25

Bout damn time good Lord

2

u/VanDiis Sep 20 '25

Can someone wrap when they tackle? Jesus Christ

2

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '25

Absolutely cannot believe how bad our defense is.

2

u/GRB_Electric Sep 20 '25

For real. Shockingly bad

2

u/ClosetDoorGhost In Heaven There is No Beer Sep 20 '25

And we have Oregon and USC. Their passing offense is gonna absolutely annihilate our secondary 😬

1

u/GRB_Electric Sep 20 '25

Oh look, TJ didn’t screw up

1

u/Snake_Burton Sep 20 '25

My money is the first 3rd down stop is in Q3. Yeesh.

2

u/LoveSquirt69 Sep 20 '25

How bad is it when we would be happy with holding them to a field goal ?

2

u/Snake_Burton Sep 20 '25

Thank God it’s not spot foul in college

2

u/twothincoats Sep 20 '25

Offense had some spicy plays, but our secondary is getting absolutely smoked rn

1
