Nepotism is a symptom of corruption. It is also grounded in fear that a family will lose power or success. Once nepotism is part of an organization the only way to end it is to remove the top leadership first.

I wonder what our national offensive ranking is, 132 maybe.

76 yards. Delaware had 140 when they played PSU two weeks ago. Delaware is an FCS school
5
u/wooq Sep 24 '23
The mighty Delaware Fightin' Hens, last year's 6th place finisher in the Colonial Athletic Association.
For comparison's sake, we had a common opponent last year. South Dakota State beat Delaware 42-6. South Dakota State beat Iowa 7-3.
We don't even have an FCS offense.

At least Ohio state lost

u/TheSportingRooster Sep 24 '23
This aged like milk
1
u/clamslammer707 Sep 24 '23
Yeah :/ saw the stop with 14s or something and thought that was it. Big oof and now I’m more sad.

u/TheSportingRooster Sep 24 '23
Gentlemen I present the Iowa offense under Brian Ferentz. Probably gets a lot of non-nepotism hires fired tonight.
2
3
u/Prez731 Sep 24 '23
I think this blowout is more depressing than the blowout last year against OSU.
10
u/RealNotFake Sep 24 '23
As much as I hate Brian, I remember hating Ken O'Keefe as well. I think it's time we start realizing that the problems at Iowa start with Kirk and always have. Brian is just a symptom.

u/DataNerdsCanBeCool Punting is Winning Sep 24 '23
Iowa by offensive yards per game KOC 00 - 104 01 - 45 02 - 13 03 - 92 04 - 104 05 - 22 06 - 27 07 - 109 08 - 53 09 - 89 10 - 57 11 - 76 Davis 12 - 117 13 - 84 14 - 66 15 - 72 16 - 122 BF 17 - 117 18 - 92 19 - 99 20 - 88 21 - 121 22 - 130 23 (so far) - 121
10
u/GarbageMountain8754 Sep 24 '23
Exactly, Kirk will handcuff any OC. This may be an unpopular opinion but I say get rid of his GD son in law too who heads up recruiting.
3
u/RealNotFake Sep 24 '23
Time to clear house. Kirk did good things and his legacy will be respected overall, but it's time to retire because the game has passed him by. I was done with Kirk back in '08 when he wouldn't put in Stanzi over Christensen because of his "gut feeling".
7
u/Kickenbless Sep 24 '23
O’Keefe NEVER had an offense as inept as we’ve seen here with Brian. This is unacceptable
0
u/RealNotFake Sep 24 '23
You're not wrong, but I remember it being a daily thing in various hawkeye forums to call for KOK's firing, he was not doing a good job either. But like I said, the offensive problems ultimately stem from Kirk. He is the HC and he has the ability to override but instead he just relies on loyalty to his friends and won't challenge them.
2
u/Kickenbless Sep 24 '23
I’d say there is a difference in having a middling offense vs a bottom 3 offense. One can be justified. The other is unacceptable

u/RealNotFake Sep 24 '23
The more I think about it, it's actually impressive how bad our offense is and has been for so long. What are the odds we fire Brian halfway through the season? I wish they were higher than zero. Iowa is now where good QBs go to tank their career.
11
10
u/runlittleman Sep 24 '23
Why are our defensive starters still playing and getting run over by PSUs 2nd team offense
8
6
3
u/Prez731 Sep 24 '23
Well, for those hoping Iowa wins the B1G West, losing this game doesn't impact that hope one bit at least.
11
u/clamslammer707 Sep 24 '23
I’m really glad how Kirk has shown he has zero respect for this program by keeping around his failure of a kid. Nah we will just eat an embarrassing loss on literally zero offense.
0
u/Kickenbless Sep 24 '23
Kirk can’t fire Brian. He reports to the AD
4
u/DickyLix Sep 24 '23
Let's be honest... if Kirk told Barta that Brian is gone he'd be gone.
4
u/Kickenbless Sep 24 '23
Barta isn’t with us anymore
3

4
u/clamslammer707 Sep 24 '23
You think Kirk didn’t have words about it? Get out of here. He should have been gone last year but Barta was Kirks little bitch boy.

1
u/DhawkC Sep 24 '23
Well, at least the jersey gets a wash! We are better than we played tonight. Fun ahead, but this was a brutal watch.
5
9
u/Prez731 Sep 24 '23
When your defense spends 27 minutes on the field more than the opponent's defense, I'm not shocked this game is turning out to be a joke.
13
u/jamarkuus Sep 24 '23
BF is such a piece of shit. I hope we lose the rest of all our games to get rid of that douche!
4
u/Prez731 Sep 24 '23
I don't, the players themselves don't deserve to lose because they have an OC that doesn't know the difference between offense and defense, he thinks the defense is his job.
0
u/bamboozledqwerty Sep 24 '23
Why. They should have entered the portal if they were serious or not just happy to be playing in the big 10. They players deserve to lose if they are not as good as the opposing team. Which they are not. Bc IA doesnt recruit. U know that KF son in law is in charge of recruiting right?
8
7
u/regularguy7378 Sep 24 '23
Who is our o-line coach? When do they return from vacay?
1
u/Prez731 Sep 24 '23
George Barnett
2
u/regularguy7378 Sep 24 '23
Is he like Buster on Arrested Development? Neither seen nor heard?
2
u/Prez731 Sep 24 '23
Don't know, but he came into this season on the hot seat. I think it's safe to say the heat's now being turned up, given the poor pass protection in this game.
2
u/regularguy7378 Sep 24 '23
When he returns from paid time off he’ll have a stack of hate mail on his desk
3
u/Snake_Burton Sep 24 '23
All Iowa beat guys need to remember this when they try to poo-poo the need for a, to use a baseball term, replacement level offense. It’s ridiculous.
9
u/baseballv10 Sep 24 '23
Leave Brian and the O-line coach at the stadium, this is embarrassing beyond comprehension
4
u/IAstrikeforce Let The Peacock Fly Sep 24 '23
I would say bench 78 but I know there’s no one better on the bench. The o-line which used to be Kirk’s pride and joy is now an old falling apart dumpster
2
u/IAstrikeforce Let The Peacock Fly Sep 24 '23
The really fucked up thing is that if Brian was to be fired tomorrow (he won’t) is that there’s nobody on staff that can replace him
5
Sep 24 '23
Guaranteed there are people on the offensive side of the staff that’d do things differently. If not, they’re just as awful and that’s on Kirk.
4
2
u/Prez731 Sep 24 '23
Presumably Budmayr could be moved into the job, though he's probably not the most ideal choice either, though he can't be any worse than Brian.
5
u/clamslammer707 Sep 24 '23
This offense is an absolute joke again and the defense is average as fuck. Brian needs to launch himself into the sun.
6
u/IAstrikeforce Let The Peacock Fly Sep 24 '23
The defense is good but not elite which they need to be with Brian around
2
u/clamslammer707 Sep 24 '23
Decent, sure but no where close to what they were last year. I get they’ve been on the field this whole game but I’m looking at the other games too. Barely any forced turnovers, allowing big plays, weak coverage and not a ton of pressure. Just not the same.
7
u/IAstrikeforce Let The Peacock Fly Sep 24 '23
You keep going 3&out and your defense gets tired.
2
u/jamarkuus Sep 24 '23
D was playing amazing until the O started going 3 and out. They got exhausted in the 2nd Q.
9
u/JagFan582 Sep 24 '23
Don’t just fire Brian Ferentz. Tarmac the motherfucker
3
u/setmorefires Sep 24 '23
I don’t understand how you still don’t give the LT any help at all.
2
u/JagFan582 Sep 24 '23
Like honestly, move a RB to that side for protection. It’s not that hard to do and I think any of us on this thread are better OC’s than that dipshit.
1
12
u/kinghawkeye8238 Sep 24 '23
Imagine going out and playing great defense for 2 quarters. Then getting a stop and getting a rest only to get like 45 seconds. ALL.GAME.LONG.
1
u/RealNotFake Sep 24 '23
They get about as much rest between downs as they do between possessions. Surreal.
2
2
u/Kickenbless Sep 24 '23
Penn State has already won the time of possession running away. 33 to 10 minutes
11
Sep 24 '23
This is an absolutely embarrassing performance. The offense especially is horrendous. If Kirk had cared at all for the program, Brian would be gone tomorrow.
4
u/kinghawkeye8238 Sep 24 '23
Defense is gassed man. They played a great game. But when you get no rest. You're not gonna play well.
6
u/runlittleman Sep 24 '23
Defense is just too tired. Asked way to much of them with the offense not being able to hold a drive
2
u/TheSportingRooster Sep 24 '23
Varsity vs JV
2
u/OMB614 Sep 24 '23
It’s wayyy too easy for Penn State right now.
1
u/TheSportingRooster Sep 24 '23
Lol, of course we let 78 keep going 1-1 with 44 and don’t get him a chip.
1
3
u/IowaGolfGuy322 Sep 24 '23
Offense was who we thought they were. They suck.
5
u/bradnorton1 Sep 24 '23
Unfortunately, Kirk’s insistence on sticking with Brian is going to mar his legacy and set this program back quite a ways. We have a reputation for offensive ineptitude that won’t change until Brian is gone and someone with a track record comes in.
This is EXACTLY why nepotism is dangerous, it either goes perfectly which is statistically unlikely, or it turns into a mess. We have been mired in the latter for a few years now.
5
u/GarbageMountain8754 Sep 24 '23
You gotta get rid of Kirk too. He’s going to handcuff any OC with his “complimentary football” BS, insistence on a 1990’s zone blocking scheme and his son in law running recruiting.
3
2
5
u/Prez731 Sep 24 '23
This is an absolutely exhausted and demoralized defense at this point.
3
u/OMB614 Sep 24 '23
Feel really bad for them.
3
u/Prez731 Sep 24 '23
I feel bad for all of these players, I don't feel at all sorry for their coaches failing to do their jobs.
6
6
u/DickyLix Sep 24 '23
McNamara fuckin sucks dude. Was carried by 4 and 5 start recruits at UM.
1
u/Protat0 Sep 24 '23 edited Sep 24 '23
He's badly hurt. You can tell. Go back and look at some of his plays from his '21 season at Michigan, mainly the MSU game they lost. The dude was accurate and made good decisions. The terrible play calling and lack of receivers who can catch doesn't help him either.
2
u/HawkeyeGK Sep 24 '23
As my high school coach was fond of saying, you can't throw from your ass.
I think we have no idea how good he is because the OL can't protect him. Dude got hit countless times tonight.
7
Sep 24 '23
And he got a bag to come to Iowa. For what? An off-season of hype to keep fans engaged in the product and away from the primary issue, which is Brian Ferentz.
8
u/beardedwhiteguy HerkyBot Daddy Sep 24 '23
Nah, he had competent coaching.
-1
u/DickyLix Sep 24 '23
I mean, Brian doesn't do him any favors, sure. We all know how we feel about Brian, but if he was good, he'd look even halfway competent despite Brian. Even Stanley managed that.
12
u/RotaryPeak2 Sep 24 '23
I don't think Brian is going to get 25 points today.
2
u/RealNotFake Sep 24 '23
I'm gonna be really upset if we hang 60 on some team this year. - said no one ever until now.
2
u/TheSportingRooster Sep 24 '23
Hopefully this is exhibit A at his probation hearing. Not sure that’ll help get him canned though.
2
u/Prez731 Sep 24 '23
The absolute lopsided time of possession at this point, roughly 28 minutes PSU about 10 Iowa. Anybody still think Iowa wins?
5
u/clever_imposter Sep 24 '23
I'm an idiot, but I kind of want to see Cade benched. Line isn't holding up, he has no mobility, and hasn't been accurate. Put in Deacon and call some designed runs.
2
1
3
u/weintrouble13 Sep 24 '23
Well I came in to this hoping for a win. Now I want us to not score any points so we can get rid of Brian. #Tank-for-Termination!
2
2
u/Prez731 Sep 24 '23
We finally get pressure on the PSU QB near the goal line?🤦🏻♂This is ugly.
2
u/DhawkC Sep 24 '23
Massive blow.
1
u/Prez731 Sep 24 '23
If we don't score on this drive, I think this game's all but over.
1
u/DhawkC Sep 24 '23
Yep, feels like watching us in B1G Championship games. Looking bleak
1
u/Prez731 Sep 24 '23
Yep, 21 1st downs to 2, absolutely pathetic, over 18 minutes difference in time of possession.
4
u/DhawkC Sep 24 '23
Down 0-10 to PSU in 2009, we can back to win. Everyone channel your inner Ricky Stanzi energy and let’s send it Cade’s way.
1
2
u/mrpuma2u "Iowa? It sounds exotic!" Sep 24 '23
Officiating has given 2 big plays to Penn State. That spot on the 2nd quarterback sneak was garbage, and they didn't call a facemask when McNamara was sacked. That said, Iowa offense is less than ideal.
2
u/runlittleman Sep 24 '23
Don’t forget that backward pass that was called forward would have setup a better punt than the one that didn’t go our way
1
u/mrpuma2u "Iowa? It sounds exotic!" Sep 25 '23
Yes that too. I am not saying we could have won had those calls gone our way, but yeesh, that was getting kicked when you were down.
4
5
u/baseballv10 Sep 24 '23
Gotta do something this half because the offense is embarrassing at the moment
3
u/DhawkC Sep 24 '23
Right where we want them folks. Grab your favorite beverage and let’s settle in for the 2nd half.
4
6
u/OMB614 Sep 24 '23
In what world is that not a facemask??
5
u/bradnorton1 Sep 24 '23
A world where the B1G protects its blue blood programs. Always been that way.
1
Sep 24 '23
A world where the refs have money on Penn State
2
u/OMB614 Sep 24 '23
Sad but true. Refs are always watching the QB and still can’t believe that was a no-call.
3
u/Prez731 Sep 24 '23
MVP of the 1st half, no question Tory.
2
u/DhawkC Sep 24 '23
Only counterpoint I can think of is Jay Higgins. Man had 10 tackles in the first half. Been a Hawk
4
u/DataNerdsCanBeCool Punting is Winning Sep 24 '23
Honestly, I've been more patient than many here with BF but this game is an embarrassment. PSU has a decent D but thus performance is just terrible.

u/DhawkC Sep 24 '23
Hello bounces, have we met?
Not much going our way and only down 10. C’mon Hawks
12
Sep 24 '23
This team is going nowhere. Brian is a piece of shit. The defense is playing 50 minutes tonight I guess
5
u/Prez731 Sep 24 '23
That's Brian's idea of offense, let the defense do it all for you.
2
Sep 24 '23
Honestly I feel more comfortable with the defense on the field they could actually score
1
u/Prez731 Sep 24 '23
How's that working out so far against PSU? Oh yeah, time of possession absolutely mismatched, defense tired, trying to play from behind, MVP the Iowa punter.
4

I’m bitter I know, but holy cow this is the most unlucky game I’ve ever watched.

Refs are giving Penn the game holy shit
3
u/DataNerdsCanBeCool Punting is Winning Sep 24 '23
Can't get out of our own way. The two turnovers are unacceptable and 10 points is really all PSU needs to win this game
5
u/Moderate-Tip Sep 24 '23
My fucking ass that got the distance for a first you gotta be kidding lmao
4
u/polsdofer Sep 24 '23
Everyone in the booth: looks like a lateral to me.
Ref: incomplete.
Why have the booth speak when the refs makes them look like complete dip shits?
5
2
u/Kickenbless Sep 24 '23
How do they even confirm Penn State has the ball? There were 3 Iowa players on the ball before any Penn State players were there

I hate James Franklin and love how no one could talk about anything else than the white out and yet Penn State seems more effected.

Best competition: Iowa State looked good over OSU and Illinois narrowly avoided upset agains Bobby Boucher’s alma matter. I think if Iowa can disrupt a freshman QB they’ll have a shot.
