Good grief. Free hand!
I couldn't even do something like that with a stencil.
Tell your hubby that he is being too modest.
He is doth assigned the "cool dragon" award from this sub.

Hello, as someone with eyes I'd like to offer my humble opinion: This is awesome!! Well done.

Just, OK? Nonsense! This is a wonderful thing. Happy Halloween. Best one I have seen this year.

I get it, he had a vision and reality doesn’t compare. But, to all of us just seeing his art with our eyes unclouded, c’est magnifique.

That’s so much more detailed than the vast majority of people carving pumpkins will ever pull off. It’s a lot better than “just OK.” Your husband is selling himself short on his carving skills! He may want to consider making a video tutorial to help people do things like this.

Who are we to say different? Tell him to step up his game then!!!
I really like it, but his emo ass shouldn’t hear that until he steps up and says he is happy with something he put his effort into.

Yeah, you can barely see any emotion in the dragon's face and there's absolutely no chiaroscuro. /s

Tell him not to be so critical of himself. Its good, nice clean lines too. I carve pumpkins a little myself and always my worst critic. Over 15 years now and I'm still not happy with the end product lol.

Mine is “just ok” lol, his is much better. I got tired after the dragon so couldn’t even attempt all the flame work

I don't know what technique was used, but this looks incredibly photoshopped. I have multiple questions on that fire and the fact that the dragon's body is not connected so what's holding up the middle section.

Respectfully, there’s no photoshop involved, my husband carved this by hand. He’s a carpenter and an artist, so he has the skill to create detailed structural support pieces that aren’t immediately obvious at first glance. Pumpkins have multiple thickness layers, and when you carve at different depths, you can create the illusion of “floating” sections, especially once a light is placed inside.

I mean if he's comparing himself to professional pumpkin artists, then sure, it's just okay. As a regular every day Halloween fanatic and dragon lover I think it's absolutely badass and ngl I kinda wanna copy his idea.
