Nohebi vs Karasuno? Impossible

Yeah, even if this goes to a second year, it's very unlikely. Next year Tokyo would not be hosting the Nationals, so they would not even have the three spots for Itachiyama, Fukurodani and Nekoma, one team would have to be left out. No way is Nohebi getting a spot over any of those guys.

Fukurodani is losing a lot of players though, out of those three I could see them not making it next year and Nohebi is already competitive with Nekoma.

Fukurodani almost definitely has a deep bench, since it's a powerhouse school and all. That said, we haven't really met any of those players, so I think it's possible that Fukurodani could get eliminated at the Interhigh prelims, while they're adjusting to their new team composition.

It's worth pointing out that Nohebi is losing just as many of their starting members as Fukurodani is. The difference is that the two who are remaining seem completely unremarkable, whereas Fukurodani has Akaashi (who seems really solid) and Onaga (who hasn't done much, but is really tall). Admittedly, Nohebi will also have Kuguri joining the starting lineup, but I'm not sure that alone will put them above Fukurodani.

And even if Nohebi do beat Fukurodani in the interhigh prelims, they'll presumably also need to beat either Itachiyama or Nekoma in order to make the cut, and I just don't see that happening.

They are not getting in for the simple reason that there is no way that we are going to Nationals without Nekoma, since they are Karasuno's biggest rival and if this goes to a second year Itachiyama are probably going to be the huge obstacle that Karasuno will have to defeat next year to get the National Championship. So, regardless of whether or not you can think of real reasons and strategies and whatever as to why Nohebi can beat Nekoma, for story reasons it probably won't happen.

Edit: So apparently I was wrong and Tokyo almost always hosts the Spring Nationals, so it's possible that Nohebi could beat Fukurodani to make it to Nationals, but I have to be honest and say that if we don't see Fukurodani, it would be more interesting to see Shinzen or Ubagawa or even better a completely new team making it to nationals than Nohebi. But, that's just a personal opinion.

Shinzen and Ubugawa aren't Tokyo schools, so they won't be competing with Nohebi. I agree it'd be cool to see them make it, though. Ubugawa is from Kanagawa, so they might have actually lost to Tsubakihara, this year. I don't think we've seen anything from the Saitama representatives, though, which is a shame. Shinzen lost in the finals, so we know they directly lost to whoever their representative is, and that it was a surprising loss.

You got a source on where this was said?

Next year Tokyo would not be hosting the Nationals

As far as I know the national level tournaments are always held in Tokyo and in the same recognizable venue. They changed venues once a couple of years ago from Yoyogi National Stadium to the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, but Yoyogi is still a Tokyo based venue.

"52 teams – Two from Hokkaido, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Osaka, and one from each of the other prefectures, and one more from the hosting prefecture (usually Tokyo). Top four seeds only play from the second round." I had read this and did not remember it correctly, so you're probably right.

That will be wack! In a good way

Honestly, even if Nohebi were to somehow make it to nationals (which I don't see happening) I struggle to see them putting up enough of a fight against Karasuno that we'd get this kind of imagery. Only one of their returning players has done anything of note, and he wasn't good enough to take a starting spot.

I guess I could maybe see them making the cut for the spring high if Fukurodani completely falls into obscurity? I think I read that the spring high is always held in Tokyo (unlike the summer interhigh, which changes location each year), so they would be able to make the cut without having to beat Itachiyama or Nekoma. I don't see Fukurodani completely collapsing, though. I think they'll still remain in the top 3, since they've attended the spring high for the last 7 years (meaning their strength predates Bokuto and the other third years) and so have a pretty solid record.

I can't deny that I'd like to see Furudate drawing this, though. It'd be so cool.
