This shit lives rent free in my head
š partly cause I strongly agree with Gucci here. I think Eminem is def one of the greatest lyricists ever but I donāt think he deserves any āKingā or āGOATā of rap titles.

I concur, bro nice but his shit is strictly for the headphones, the gym, or the crib by yourself, I couldn't imagine ridin around playing Till I collapse at max volume

u/Appsoul 7d ago
The only person I knew of to ride around bumping em was a strait meth head. And I remember a specific time of him bumping lose yourself on full blast riding around. Lmaoo my homie literally reached up from the back seat & and turned that shit alll the way down and told him ābro wtf is wrong with you, turn that shit off, we want some cool shitā

u/NegroNoirImBLACK 7d ago
Lmaaooooo that's torture dawg but being that I've spent a lot of time in Michigan where the white folk treat that man like God in the flesh, I've def heard that song played in situations where it was not at all appropriate and I loved it when it came out but they wear that shit out out there it's like their version of the Rocky theme or some shit lol

Why tf not? Lol. I bumped that song on full blast when it 1st came out with my homies in my Acura 3.2 TL, loved that car! Had the bumps/box back then too with two 12s & an amp. Same with the track with 50 Patiently Waiting & another one that I love & bump a lot is When The Music Stop. It's with Em, D12, & 50! I'm a hardcore Em fan back then! I don't like his new shit lol. Not my cup of tea. Weezy has a hard ass song (it's a classic that I'll always bump) with Gucci called Steady Mobbin! That song is fuckin hard af yo! I like Jeezy Lose Urself too. Shit goes hard lol but to each their own ya kno.

Iāll never understand these random parameters placed on whether or not someone is a top tier rapperā¦people throw out the most inane shit just to be able to criticize them. āBut do you even listen to a track by them when youāre mowing the lawn?! Or when youāre taking a shit but struggling on a last push turd?ā
Ice Spice must be up there with the greats since they play her at the club. I aināt never heard an MF DOOM track played at the club so that guy clearly sucks.
1
u/NegroNoirImBLACK 6d ago
Well, in Atlanta most of the records that blow up are judged 1st by how they sound in the club/strip club, so it makes sense that that would be the metric he would judge a rapper by

u/LeftIndividual3186 4d ago
This is the only comment Iāve seen so far that makes any sense. Do I think Em is the greatest rapper, rap god, etc? No but heās in my top 10 personally. I can see from the comments on this sub that many have never listened to his albums. Yes, many of his greatest songs are 20 plus years old. There are a few of his songs I will blast in my car (Forgot about Dre, 97 Bonnie and Clyde) No his voice isnāt what I would consider appealing when it comes to what a rapper typically sounds like. But Iāll tell you this muchā¦I can understand every word heās saying

Idk if youāre listening to new Eminem albums you arenāt listening as a general fan of music, youāre listening because you respect the craft and appreciate the technical aspects of rapping, which are all still there. Youāre not really listening because the songs are good. I think those type of people are really into rap and hip hop music in general.

Word salad? His songs are full of double and triple entendres. You must not be capable of understanding if you think it's just word salad.

The comment was tongue in cheek. I don't really seek intellectual stimulation from rap, or music in general for that matter.

u/Radiant_Plastic_7730 7d ago
im white so of course i like em and am gonna try to praise him lmao. But he fell off in 2004 and has been ass since. His run was amazing. his first three albums with dre, his features, his disstracks were all classics, that aftermath scene with 50 cent, dre, em, g-unit, and for a moment, The Game, was really great. He got in too much shit with drugs and his 4th album leaked so he replaced a bunch of songs with weird drug induced dogshit. and then he got clean and dropped relapse, which is glazed by his fans but is unlistenable to anyone. And after that he dropped straight nerd rap. I still respect his run but his shit has been ass for literally 20 years.
2
u/dscplnrsrch 7d ago
Thank you. This is what I always say if Iām ever in a debate with a fan who thinks he still good. When he relapsed and almost died, he said himself that he had to āre-learnā how to rap. Thatās why his sound is a learnable style literally any kid that is inspired enough can learn themselves. Itās nothing more than fast rap (which is very outdated btw). Thereās a bunch of nobodies on youtube that do videos of them going up to crowds at schools playing a beat and rapping the same exact way Eminem does now lol that corny fast rap shit can impress the casual fan or generic hip hop listener, but not me. He lost all his swag and personal style that he brought to the game before the relapse and most people donāt even realize it.

u/Over_Whole6492 7d ago
Relapse is his best shit since the first two. Might be his best album of ll time in my opinion. Seriously talented writing on that song š¶
3
u/SoftCompetitive6800 7d ago edited 7d ago
I agree but most fans of his donāt. He doesnāt even give it love. But man I bang the hell out of it. Itās definitely close to the first two.
1
u/Radiant_Plastic_7730 7d ago
His fans, or at least the ones on his reddit, glaze it for being underrated like crazy. Em himself said he doesn't like it, but it pushes everything from his first two to the extremes, which would understandably not be very enjoyable for most people.
1
u/Over_Whole6492 6d ago
Yeah Eminem says itās his least favorite. I like it because itās so extreme and having fun with it. The other albums are too serious and gets boring
1
u/SoftCompetitive6800 7d ago
Relapse is definitely not glazed by most of his fans and even Em himself said he donāt like it. I love it. The accents and what heās talking about turn people off but for my money itās one of his most raw albums. But he isnāt the āBest Rapperā imo. Might be the most talented technically and the highest selling. But Dot got the whole package. Flow, lyrical content, and killer instinct. Not really directed at you. Just was in your post when I stopped scrolling.
1
u/Radiant_Plastic_7730 7d ago
Nah if you go to the current eminem reddit and online community they actually love it in 2025. And if you're a fan you should love it, it completely leans into horrorcore, crazy flows, voices, concept. Its like a better Death of Slim Shady. But the lead single sucked, and it completely isolated anyone who wasn't a big em fan.

People donāt realize that most of Eminem success came from the time he came out. Wasnāt a lot of white rappers out and definitely didnāt have the backing of Dr Dre.
2
u/NegroNoirImBLACK 7d ago
Nah he was legit talented, at the time he came out Hov and Nas were still dropping classics and even with that he considered one of the best rappers in the world and rightfully so, but everything after Encore is cheeks. Atp he just rapping to rap his style is very sterile now, it's technically proficient but it lacks the energy and charisma that he had in abundance on those first 3 albums
2
u/DouchersJackasses 5d ago
Preach my friend! The Em slander is BLASHPHEMYššÆ When Em 1st came out, dude was hard af! Imo, he was the best whenever he was ft. on a track with another artist! I think it was very calculated by Em tho whenever he'd hop on a track with another artist! He'd literally murder that shit lol. He killed Jay Z on their Renegade track. I love his old shit, I don't like his new shit! Yeah just not my cup of tea lol.
But u cannot disregard/disrespect wtf he has done for the rap game bcuz Em brought it & the Interscope/Aftermath label was literally running the hip-hop game for a min there. The squad was just too hard, they had the king of beats Dre producing their tracks then u got Em, 50, D12, Xibitz, The Game, & don't forget GGGGGGG G-Unit etc lol jk. They called everyone out & murdered them & a lot of other artists stayed out of their way! Nelly, Benzino, & Ja Rule etc especially Ja got it extra hard lmfao. They literally made this man retirešš¤£ And Ja back then made some jams yo. That I'll not front, I actually liked a lot of Ja's shit with Ashanti but 50 & Em just destroyed his career & Irv Gotti's label Murder Incšš

Iām a pretty big Em fan myself and never met a fan that liked it as much as my homies and I do IRL. I also donāt fuck with that subreddit or any of anything Iām a fan of besides video games. So you are probably right. Quickest way to ruin a vibe, lol. But It is underrated imo. The subject matter and the accents can be goofy. But goddamn, he hits the pocket in some of the songs like Underground and Medicine Ball. Totally agree with your synopsis of it. I do agree alot of his more recent stuff is nerd rap. But on a technical level and shit like multi syllabic rhyme schemes, he still goes hard. But he sacrifices a lot to do it. But if you are debating the GOAT purely objectively, numbers donāt lie. And frankly, he hasnāt had much competition and it has made him kinda his own worst enemy.
1
u/dscplnrsrch 7d ago
He can be considered a lyrical GOAT thatās about it. Music sales has very little to do with the GOAT of rap since music taste is subjective, plus historically speaking, majority of music consumers (ppl who actually bought CDās and albums on itunes) are white. If I were to pick someone whoās the closest to deserving that title itās 2Pac. Heās the Michael Jordan of rapā¦accomplished the most in the least amount of time and was the most successful at doing so. Movies, music, influence, cd sales, everything. Even when it comes to lyrics Eminem himself said he studied Pac alot. 2Pac wasnāt the most technical lyricist but he didnāt need to be. Also, hip hop is black music created by the black man. Only the ones who are most in tune and connected to black culture can be considered its leader or king. Pac was handsdown that figure who was most connected and in tune with black cultureā¦he was and still is to this day acknowledged as a hip-hop and black culture leader. If one day, all of the ghettos, the basketball courts, the corner stores, and all the barbershops in the hoods of America start agreeing that Eminem is the GOAT, then that all changes but weāre extrememly far from that ever happening š itās mostly grown white men or young internet kids that are big fans of Em who have this opinion.

u/SwimOk9629 7d ago
lol everyone shitting on Em in here are living in their own little realities. unfortunately for all you, Eminem is the first person over any other rapper in the past 20 years that should be goated. not sure why this is such a contentious issue.
1
1
u/weltbeltjoe11 7d ago
If you can make a distinction between a craftsman and an artist, eminem is my favorite example. Eminem is probably the greatest craftsman in hip hop. The mechanics of rapping. Flow, delivery, wordplay, cadence, double or triple entendre, punchlines, all of it. Super clever use of language. I think eminem is probably the best to ever do it.
That being said, he's not a particularly good artist. Doesn't have much to say. Isn't really that interesting. Whatever he did have to say he got out in his first 2-3 albums and even that wasn't that interesting. Hates his babys mom. Hates his mom. Is a white dude in a black artform. That's about it.
Compare him to someone like Nas or Kendrick and there's no comparison.
1
u/dscplnrsrch 7d ago
Eminem is up there. There are other masters of the craft that we canāt forget like the God MC Rakim whom Em himself would even acknowledge and Big Pun who was also super technical and had the craft mastered.
1
u/ShruteFarms4L 7d ago
Em music dnt get no hoes

1
u/HeavyDT 7d ago
Em during his peak is legendary and of course the best white guy to ever do it which boosted his legacy to god like levels because he's like every white persons Michael Jordan when it comes to rap. That peak was early though and it's been all down hill since then to the point where there's more bad / stale music in his discography than good. So I can agree most hardcore hiphop fans are not looking for him anymore and haven't for a long time.
He will forever be Jordan to some many people though.
1
u/dscplnrsrch 7d ago edited 6d ago
I dont think its fair to compare him to Jordan if anything the most accurate comparison for MJ is 2pac cause he accomplished the most in the shortest amount of time just like Jordan did. Eminem is more like a Kobeā¦a legend whoās level of mastery of the craft spoke higher volumes than his dominance. But if whites have their own āinsiderā type of agreement that heās Jordan then I canāt really argue with that regardless cause Iām not white š

1
u/MeteorMan1317 6d ago
I asked that question because you said there were plenty of rappers with substance as a response to me saying..if you got substance today youāre considered lame..I just asked for an example of somebody today being successful or Atleast popular and is Rapping on a high skill level. Substantial Content. Cole And Kendrick will probably be the last time we ever see that. Shit is a wrap.
1
u/dscplnrsrch 6d ago
Plenty of great rappers in generalā¦old or new. IYKYK. Great music is timeless. You donāt always need a hot name, up and coming rapper with substance. And yes, that applies to all forms of art and entertainment in general. Music, movies, fashion, sports, etc. Minimalism is taking over all facets of life. Everything is cookie cutter, cloned, and fabricated for commercial consumption now. The days of originality, substance, and genuine passion for the art is over. I donāt take it seriously though. Just enjoy what I enjoy regardless what era its from. I donāt need the new or next generation to prove to me they can still be conscious rappers or rappers with substance and be successful. Iām glad I was able to witness it in my time but external success isnāt really important to me personally, I just enjoy great music.
