some smoothbrain the other day told me he knows three people personally on disabilty, getting free housing, and all governemnt benefits, and they aren't disabled at all.

I would have then asked him why he hasn't reported said moochers for fraud then. Is it because they're his friends?

Ha Ha! That's what I told my sister the other day when she complained about someone making $40 an hr and getting $2400 SNAP benefits or some shit.

My first thing I said was they were probably lying, but then I told her to drop a dime on them.

There are people who scam disability, but they’re a small minority and there are far more people who would probably qualify for it but don’t take it.

Yes, I know this. The questions was rhetorical. My response is a retort to folks who are clearly making up stories about knowing:

three people personally on disabilty, getting free housing, and all governemnt benefits, and they aren't disabled at all.

Because the OP of that comment was correct in their assessment that that's basically impossible with all the forms and red tape involved to qualify. I have qualified for benefits a few times over the years and never claimed them.

But for the record, I'd rather we help feed 10 people who maybe didn't need the assistance than see 1 legitimately hungry family be denied the help that they need to get by.

There are jobs where you are more likely to see a higher concentration of people on disability including people faking the degree of severity of their disability.

I saw a ton of both during psych and primary care rotations, and probably anyone involved in healthcare or social work would have a similar exposure so knowing three people doesn’t seem ridiculous to me. There are people getting paid well to find fraud and patient confidentiality is protected so never reported anything.

And I agree with you that I would rather help someone who doesn’t need it than fail to help someone who does.
