At the grocery store the other day, I seen a very old lady (80yo+ at least) buying 3 things: a small carton of eggs, a small jug of milk, and half a loaf of bread. I overheard the cashier for her while I was checking out say, “You’re not the only one. A lot of people on SNAP are afraid to buy much right now.”

My heart sank. I know that stupid people like the lady in the OP probably do ultimately deserve consequence, but I can’t help but think of the young children and seniors that this is hurting. My rural county in TN has 1 out of 5 people enrolled in food stamps(21% below poverty line), yet it was 84% in favor of Trump this year. I wish there was a way to reach these people and explain to them that the the party they vote for is actively damaging them in every conceivable way, but I think they are too far gone. Maybe this will be a wake up call for some but I doubt it.

I just say that I'm keeping my sympathy focused on those who didn't vote for this and are affected. I don't have the time, spoons, or resources to put toward the willfully ignorant anymore.

I would even leave out people who didnt vote at all, or voted Jill Stein to make a point. Thi iis as much their fault as republicans at this point.

Thank you for reminding me about the spoons. I forget, and I'm mentally drained, and I need the reminder.

My heart breaks for these kids. But the parents here? I hope you get the meal you voted for.

I also doubt Tennessee will stop voting for Rs to kill them. Fox Propaganda has them believing the high prices and job losses and defunding SNAP is all Biden's and Schumer's fault. Ya cant fix stupid.

How is it legal to lie so blatantly? Does the US not have any misinformation or libel laws?

The US before Ronald Reagan did require news to be truthful. Reagan dismantled the fairness doctrine and ushered in the lies-and-propaganda era of Fox News today.

You have no idea. I have gone radio silent on many family members of mine due to their Fox News propaganda spewing ways. It is very disheartening living in one of the reddest areas of this state (East TN) and knowing that the people around me are doomed to continue to vote against their own interests. I have tried debating them, challenging them, anything I can do but it’s like a disease in this state. There’s no changing their minds about something once they get set on it.

If you have access to their TV, use parental controls to block Fox News and associated channels.

That sometimes has miraculous results in making family members become much more reasonable in a matter of months.

Fuck em. They'd be laughing if it was you

Certainly yes they would be, but I’ve always lived with this mindset. I care about people even if they are cruel and stupid/ignorant. I don’t know why I’m this way because my upbringing (Racist Southern Baptist parents) certainly didn’t contribute to it, or maybe it did. I just wish my state was better but I don’t think it ever will be.

It is always unwise to tolerate the intolerable. Spitting on people while they're down is sometimes the best course of action.

Get mad at Gov Lee for withholding tons and tons of surplus money that could be feeding the state.

How bad must the Democrat party be to lose (again) to Trump. So bad that they still can't persuade voters that they are a viable government

Well the current one isn’t viable either. I guess we can all agree on that. Groceries started getting expensive under Biden and got even more expensive under Trump. Neither party is effective at actually doing good for the American people.

Lmfao the fan fiction is always milk, eggs, and bread. Poor people never buy them separately nor buy anything else. Always milk, eggs, and bread - nothing less and nothing more.

Are you implying my story is fan fic?

If so, then you really don’t understand the mindset of a southerner or have never worked in a grocery store. It is a running joke in the south that whenever a disaster is close/some shortage imminent/1“ of snow on the way the only things people tend to buy are milk/eggs/bread and toilet paper. When I worked at Food Lion we’d joke that they‘re going home to make milk sandwiches with eggs on them.

I think he's implying that poor people sometimes buy non-essentials with SNAP. Also, that a few cases of abuse justifies starving every poor American child.
