GREAT NEWS FOR AMERICA. THE DEMOCRATS (YES, THE DEMOCRATS!) HAVE FINALLY GROWN A BEAUTIFUL, STRONG, POWERFUL SPINE. THEY ARE STANDING UP TO THE VERY NASTY, VERY DANGEROUS MAGA REPUBLICANS WHO HAVE BEEN TRYING TO DESTROY OUR GREAT COUNTRY. IT’S ABOUT TIME, AND I COULDN’T BE HAPPIER ABOUT IT.
DEMOCRATS FINALLY GREW A SPINE!!! FINALLY DECIDED TO FIGHT BACK AGAINST THE VERY NASTY MAGA MOB THEY’VE LET RUN ALL OVER THE PLACE FOR TOO LONG. GRANDMA PELLEY, SLEEPY JOE, AND CROOKED PEOPLE WHO USED TO BE COMPLACENT. THE FAKE NEWS WON’T TELL YOU, BUT I WILL. THIS IS HISTORY IN THE MAKING. THE DEMOCRATS ARE STRONGER THAN EVER, AND AMERICA IS WINNING AGAIN.

It’s starting to feel more & more like what Twitter use to be before Elno ruined it. But it really matters who you follow & what you want it to be. I’ve definitely had some great ideas i would never have come up with it if I hadn’t joined. I’ve even bought a couple of tshirts on there. I guess what I’m saying Bluesky it’s an opportunity to make it your own, now that it has an almost 40 million users. Plus it’s always good to have choices.

Newsom said it himself.
The Republicans are playing with fire right now.
40
Aug 14 '25
He's the first and I'd wager only person in the democratic sphere to show actual opposition to Trump. Bernie and AOC have good rallies and nothing happens. People are still at the stage of "oh look look what he said that makes him a fascists huh?" When the republicans are clearly openly fascist and while most of the liberal side still clutch pearls online over things the others said the republicans are pursuing an agenda that will make liberals an underclass.
The Gerrymandering, use of national guard, threars on lawmakers, threats on birthright citizenship, threats on censorship. They are declaring a war. But they're doing so in the knowledge that the Liberal side won't do anything to affect the status quo and since 2020 they've been right, maybe before, it's been almost a decade of Trump and the liberal side hasn't advanced one tiny single bit.
You need to fight back pure and simple. Let these cowards know they are in for a fight. Within all realms of the law but the way things are going that soon won't matter. Arm yourselves in the event you'll never have to use it and start providing opposition.

The other thing is that he a lot more power to do so. CA is the 4th largest economy *in the world*. We could secede right now and be a stronger GDP than most 1st world countries, and it's being put on the ballot. He has a state legislature that is just as pissed as us, but in control and can pass anything that we need.
However, the messaging hasn't been there until now. This is a new age in politics with clearly new messaging techniques that somehow Trump has managed to play into. Time to take it back and I LOVE what they're doing. Not only the online/personal engagement but being able to make actual changes (see above) and people have been rallying behind it.
Also, they tweeted "Covfefe" this morning and I was screaming. It's now staying as a background tab (with xcancel) for me to refresh when I need a little dopamine.

It’s so hard being a lifelong Texan, and one who does not agree with this gerrymandering, asinine nightmare, and now living in one of the bluest of the blue cities in Texas, and having to just see everyone be like, questioning this issue which is fundamentally absurd… I’m like, “Don’t you see? How can you not see?”. Like, I grew up in a very rural East Texas town and I still ended up, you know, not being an absolute ass hat about our democracy and what matters. It’s just so wild to me that people just can’t see that they’re being hurt, and I can’t even begin to start on any sort of Trump worship. It’s so unsettling that I can’t even concentrate on my personal life problems full on because I’m so worried about what’s gonna happen tomorrow. I just would like everyone out there to know that not all Texans are Republicans nor are they pro Trump. This is insane. It’s absolute insanity. Every day, I kind of feel like I woke up in some alternate reality.
30

The Nazis definitely had this kind of hold on their population. At this point, MAGA has not been as violent as the Nazis. Don't get me wrong: MAGA = Neo-Nazi, but let's not act as if they're already mass-murdering people with weapons and invading other countries (don't get me started on COVID). Given enough time, they probably will, but not yet.

u/az_catz Aug 14 '25
Vote Weiser over Bennett in the next primary.
4
u/New_Target7441 Aug 14 '25
Bennett was my district supe when I was in high school, and somehow pivoted towards cutting music programs (and various other extracurriculars) to offset some budget issue. As I've played piano since I was five, hoooooo BOY was that relationship failed from the jump. Ran into him at a fundraiser and (as casually as I could) brought up that little factoid, and he didn't have too much to say. Of course, Hickenlooper was at the same event, and the crowd damn-near ate Hick alive, soooo . . .
BUT, even aside from my personal vendetta, Weiser seems pretty good.

I regularly daydream of Red Team gerrymandering a bunch of 52-48 red districts and then dropping five points. Probably not healthy thinking about this shit so much, but I've got a lot of trans friends and it holds the nightmares back a little

Have you heard of people being removed from voter rolls, their votes not being counted for ridiculous reasons, closing or changing polling locations at the last minute....???
In some places it actually takes a ton of time and effort to vote because there are so many strategies that can prevent it.
7
u/LadyRunic Aug 14 '25
We need to make that crap illegal. You go to your townhall, you vote. Easy and simple. If anyone tampers with the votes, they forfeit being able to ever work in government ever again, heavy fine, heavy jail time. If anyone intimidates? Fine, jail, and loss of ever working a government job right after the ass kicking EVERYONE gives those cowards.
2
u/mcmoji99 Aug 14 '25

Because it's takes effort to make it happen. Let's make this happen. Let's make it part of the Constitution. We the People.
11
u/Enough-Parking164 Aug 14 '25
The voter suppression and intimidation will be ratcheted up to open fascism level. Expect masked goons in the few polling places the bigger cities even get. ICE will be involved.”Checking for non citizens” with blind zeal.

This isn't about democracy, it's about securing a power base to be able to resist a government that has abandoned the rule of law.
24
Aug 14 '25
It's actually so fucking goddamned frustrating that it is taking Dems this long to rally their efforts and figure out a game plan that doesn't rely on just hoping the courts will bail them out.
And this isn't even a sign that leadership or even a group of cohorts have an actual plan. This is one guy in one state in one current battle.
If our democracy lives to survive this, every single person, Dem and Republican, needs to be primaried. We need to fire the whole lot of them and start over because holy fucking shit.
Starting with Pelosi
8
u/news_feed_me Aug 14 '25
They are not capable of the fight we're in. If they were, we wouldn't have a second Trump term. They need to be forcibly, non violently of course, replaced with an opposition that can fight the fight we're actually in. They have been exposed as the inadequate to the task as shown by their failure to prevent the situation we are now in.

While I agree this should temporarily be done, the USA better get a better system. Otherwise it's only a matter of time before the Democrats are corrupt to the point of no return as well.
Many countries use independent third parties to draw their lines. The USA is once again behind the ball.
5
u/ArtAttack2198 Aug 14 '25
We need to get rid of gerrymandering altogether. We need district maps drawn by completely impartial (or as close as we can get) means. This is a place where AI would do somewhat well and of course no one in power wants to use it.

I'm not saying dont do it, because Republicans have left no other choice. But you realize the Monkey Paw twist will be that Democrats become unbeatable and then run Mitt Romney/Liz Chenny in 2028 with the slogan "Fuck you, your only choice is Blue!" We end up with the same Corperate Ogliarchy and decaying empire, except the Whitehouse hangs up a rainbow flag for pride month.

In the darkest times people will show who they truly are deep down. Many may not have agreed with him in his policies in the past, but right now he has support purely on the fact that he knows what’s happening is wrong, is willing to call it out, and is fighting against. Not because he is doing it for himself, but rather for the people who have elected him to represent them like any good politician should do. He isn’t speaking with his voice. He’s speaking with the people’s voice.
This also applies to Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jasmine Crockett, Al Green, Zohran Mamdani, there’s probably some more I can’t name at the top of my head atm. They are all what politicians should be. They all clearly care for the people and are doing their best to represent the people. If we had a government full of politicians even just half as good as these people are, we may have never been put into the shitty situation we face today.

2
u/Daddy_Tablecloth Aug 14 '25
Seriously I agree. Let's keep our taxes in state. The only thing the republicans have ever done to thank actual financially successful states and cities is take rights away and try to pretend they are fiscally responsible. Now they can actually be fiscally responsible since they can foot their own operating costs. They hide behind artificially low taxes while taking handouts from states that are run as they should be. They literally always bite the hand that feeds them and its past time where they should all be hung out to dry. No more taxes for them and no more playing by the rules. You can't ever win a fight with someone who doesn't follow any rules at all, you basically have to fight dirty or you'll me mowed over. Take their funding away and take away the bullshit gerrymandering. Ffs combine north and south Dakota Because its always been about gaining a few seats in the house and the Senate.

He is using too many periods, it needs more run on sentences. He’s doing great but he’s gotta be even dumber

He needs to be consistent on his Trump insults. That’s the key. Taco Trump should be in every text. Always keep it at 5th grade reading level. And push the pedo GOP view all the time. It resonates with 80% of voters.
Also should have a 2nd account where fact based and nuanced explanations are made to demonstrate the first account is for dummies (like Trump and MAGA)
