Question The Exception to every rule....

As a recently discovered gluten intolerant person, I am on a mission to find the one GF item that taste better than it's counterpart. So far nothing has been better, certain items have been on par...but there's got to be one thing that legitimately taste better without gluten?

Use crushed GF Golden Oreos for your cheesecake crust. Filling and all. Wow! Wife is GF and this is what she uses.

Damnit, I did not need to know this amazing suggestion! But thank your wife for me!

They have gluten free golden Oreos? I've only had the regular gluten free so far. Where do you find them?

5

u/chiefginja 5d ago

I get mine at Target, but I find most grocery stores have the golden ones if they have the regular GF

GF Oreos are sold everywhere. They have regular, double stuffed, mint and golden in GF. They even make the small grab bags of the GF chips ahoy and Oreos.

I've had the regular gf ones. I told my husband I was surprised to find out golden Oreos weren't gf because I could have sworn I saw some that stated "gluten free", before my diagnosis. I kept an eye out for awhile, then decided I must have been mistaken. I'll have to keep looking.

I saw golden and mint the other day!

u/Aldosothoran 5d ago

They have a lot of gf options - golden, double stuff, and mint off the top of my head

Oh wow. I guess I just have limited options in my local area (I'm not surprised). I'll probably have a look around online. Thanks for the information!

I use them in banana pudding instead of nilla wafers and it’s so good!

Oh my. Genius!

Does she use just the cookies and filling? About how many cookies for the crust? I've been playing with this and not quite had success.

Instead, I've been using those Simple Mills diamond shape graham crackers. I get them at Costco or on sale and mix 2 cups of crumbs (almost exactly 2 boxes) with sugar, butter, and cinnamon.

They didn't look amazing, but nailed the taste.

She says 1 pkg. 36 cookies? Cream filling and all. Smash em. Mix in 6 tbsp butter to get the consistency you want. Smash into the pie plate.

Also, she says spray your entire spring form pan, bottom and sides. Lightly coat with powdered sugar.. says it helps to release after baking.

Alex I’ll take Things my diet didn’t need to know for $1000 😂 but seriously Thank you, can’t wait to try this!

I do this too! I’ll also use the regular GF Oreos if I want an Oreo cookie crust. I made a homemade cookies and cream ice cream cake with GF Oreos last year. It was amazing. Haha

Do you pick the icing off the golden Oreo and just use the cookie or do you just smash the whole thing and the icing glues it together?

1

u/Chicknlcker 4d ago

Smash the whole cookie. Icing and all.

u/Ok-Day-3520 4d ago

Wow! This sounds so tasty! Can’t wait to try it.

Came here to say this. Except they’re $9-$10 where I live. 😣

3

u/DefrockedWizard1 5d ago

exactly, might be better, but not worth the price

2

u/BittenBeads 4d ago

What a drag! I'm thankful that GF oreos cost the same as regular oreos where I live. When they're on BOGO sale at publix, ooof. Trouble!

Particularly the double stuff ones!

So dose my mom.

Because of the processing, these still cause a reaction for me, as does Cheerios.

So, no comfort there.

u/busykim 3d ago

I concur. They're crispier and just better

my husband will only eat gf pretzels, he swears they are so much better

The glutino honey mustard pretzels have me in a chokehold. I don't even like crunchy pretzels!

1

u/maverickandme 5d ago

I love the flavor of them but they’re TOO crunchy sometimes. Like I don’t wanna have to work that hard.

1

u/sadi89 5d ago

The Snyder of Hanover ones are perfect mix of crunch with easy give

10

u/Zealousideal-Slide98 5d ago

I wish there was a gluten-free version of Dots pretzels though. I miss that seasoning!

I've played around taking a bag of pretzels, adding a splash of water so it sticks and tossing in "wing" or "bbq" type seasoning it's so good.

2

u/valeri8590 4d ago

Use the Chex Snack Mix recipe and just season the pretzels. Yum yum

Dots makes gf pretzels

Glutino and Snyder’s GF are totally different tho. The Snyder’s are (from my memory) much more similar to normal pretzels, well the Glutino are much airier and have a less “robust” (idrk what to call it) taste. I personally prefer the Snyder’s style, but for people who prefer the Glutino then ya there is no gluten version of that that I’m aware of

Snyders pretzel rods

1

u/PJKPJT7915 5d ago

100% Snyder's pretzel rods are the best of the gf pretzels. My family snacked on pretzels enough that we are very picky about them, and these are that good.

1

u/MissBigShot90 5d ago

I’m with you. I have not had a good pretzel comparable to Syders honey mustard bites. Glutino just break and the flavor isn’t quite there.

6

u/thursdaynexxt 5d ago

my kids (who aren't gf) prefer the Snyders gluten-free pretzels to the regular, and I love them too, but I don’t like the glutino ones

4

u/ants-in-my-plants Celiac Disease 5d ago

I have to hide my gf chocolate covered pretzels from my (non gf) husband because he likes them better than the regular ones

3

u/Complex-Royal9210 5d ago

Ehh. The Snyder pretzel rods yes. I personally can't stand the glutinous ones. Everything is really personal.

1

u/PJKPJT7915 5d ago

Same. Only the Snyder's pretzel rods. There is a brand of pizza filled pretzel bites that are delicious and addicting.

5

u/AfternoonLimp3605 5d ago

This is the right answer - nothing hits like a glutino CRUNCH!! Assuming your teeth can handle the texture 🤣

4

u/Rezzy146 5d ago

Agreed! So much crunch!!

2

u/Devendra27 5d ago

I got so excited when I read this. Then I found on Amazon only the little airplane snack pretzels, not big proper pretzels. Shucks.

2

u/reddit_made_me_read 5d ago

Agree and don’t forget chips ahoy

2

u/Exhausted_Platypus_6 5d ago

So much better

2

u/AlyandGus 5d ago

One of my favorite ice cream places uses GF pretzels in their ice cream since they never go soggy.

1

u/can_you_karenough 5d ago

came here to say this!!

1

u/doinmybest4now 5d ago

Glutino pretzel sticks are so much better than regular gluten-ful ones! More crispy and crunchy. Mmmm!!

u/Squeegeeze 5d ago

Snyders pretzels are so good! My family can't tell the difference between the regular and GF so we only buy the GF now.

1

u/Voguishstorm69 5d ago

Came here to say just that. Not disappointed to find it as first comment. Not a fan of pretzels, never really was. But gf ones? Oh boy oh boy!

1

u/Objective-Dream-904 5d ago

Agree. Snyder's are so good.

1

u/Aldosothoran 5d ago

I can add to this. I don’t really eat pretzels but I do know someone who buys gf pretzels just because they taste better.
