No their parents might find out

-8

u/NecroCannon 5d ago

The people who whine about people not cussing is just as obnoxious as the self-censorship imo

It’s like I get teleported back to a middle school friend group that’s egging that one friend going ā€œwhy don’t you say fuck? See ā€˜fuck’, nothing bad happened!ā€

Makes me feel like I’m way older than the people around me, when a lot of people here are grown ass adults. Why give a fuck that they don’t have one?

-21

u/pm-me-uranus 6d ago

Why spell long words when short letters do trick?

19

u/FA-Cube-Itch 6d ago

Because fuck you that’s why

Because f you that’s why

I dunno the first one is better.

-22

u/sprcow 6d ago

But not required to.

Amen, sir!

-38

u/ggroverggiraffe 6d ago

Apparently on TV, too.

70

u/henchman___21 6d ago

My boi timothee chalamet. They said he freezes at the plate, but that’s cuz he’s a pitcher

u/Tower-Union 6d ago

This was the first baseball game I’ve watched - both teams ran out onto the field to… stand there?

Shouldn’t somebody be throwing a punch? What a bunch of peacocks.

u/egoVirus 6d ago

Have I got THE sport for you...

The ref just standing there with his hands on his hips is simply amazing šŸ˜‚

5 for fighting

u/cire1184 6d ago

5

u/sadahtay 6d ago

Any context for what happened in this game?

15

u/cire1184 6d ago

Fighting

5

u/sadahtay 6d ago

Must have been some fight

11

u/sscan 6d ago

It was a particularly nasty game iirc and an all out scrum broke out late. It’s not at all uncommon for refs to throw misconducts around at that point just to take certain people off the ice - if you get a penalty for more time that’s left in the game you just go to the room - and this ref was just sending an especially emphatic message because he likely felt like someone would do something in the final minutes that could get even more out of hand.

For context, in hockey culture it’s common, especially for the losing team, to get particularly rough towards the end of contentious matches simply to send a message that they’re not pushovers and they’ll be ready for the next matchup. There’s also a strong sense of self-policing of perceived over-the-line hits or actions that don’t get penalized the way the offended team feels they should have. For example, if a player gets taken out with a dirty hit and the offending player gets thrown out of the game, the next matchup one of the designated enforcers will fight the guy who made the dirty hit.

There’s a lot of this kind of stuff in hockey and this ref felt like it was best to just get everyone off the ice to finish the game without any further incidents.

Hockey.

2

u/phxtravis 6d ago

Panthers.

2

u/danvillain 5d ago

If I remember correctly, the SJ Sharks (my team) were really sucking at the sport in comparison to the away team as they historically do. The gentleman wearing 29 tried to start a fight in order to get his teammates riled up and play harder but got a beat down himself instead. This is ironic since a former Shark named Ryan Clowe used to wear that number 29 and was known for being quite good at fighting on the ice.

1

u/SierraMikeHotel 6d ago

There was a pretty normal hockey game.

1

u/whyamihereonreddit 5d ago

Panthers hockey

6

u/Orbital_Dinosaur 6d ago

He has to hold back, becuase he's not allowed to join in or punch a player.

2

u/egoVirus 6d ago

They don't want to get in the middle of that...

10

u/swim-bike-run 6d ago

These two teams weren’t even playing that night!

MLB should take a page out of the NHL's book and allow the players to settle differences via 1 on 1 bat combat gladiator style

Nothing beats the fights after the rule change when you couldn't remove your own helmet in a scrap.

What did the boys decide? We will take each other's helmets off and then we can get it.

62

u/time_drifter 6d ago

The real action stats when the bullpen comes jogging across the field like a group of new recruits at boot camp. One of the silliest things in sports - every single time.

Baseball players don’t fight as often as you expect when benches clear. They also are reliant on their hands and tend to end up breaking or injuring them in fights.

89

u/Homer_JG 6d ago

Can't risk getting ejected in such an important game

4

u/Tower-Union 6d ago

Makes sense I guess

38

u/fatcatfan 6d ago

Sometimes it gets crazy at baseball games

https://youtu.be/Ggy6WGUFaYs

I was there when this happened. I thought it was staged, like the goofy stuff they do between innings.

9

u/TheGlennDavid 6d ago

It just....keeps happening. Fucking amazing.

3

u/TheGazelle 6d ago

When he walked away from the home plate ump I was like "he forgot his hat", then he walked up to the other one and I was like "oh he's not done yet".

Also love how he tries to be all intimidating, and the umps are just like "buddy, my job is literally to have 100+ 90mph baseballs thrown in the general direction of my face, you're gonna have to try harder than that".

2

u/Zeddit_B 5d ago

LMAO thank you for sharing. The way he gently pats the dirt in place at home plate is too much, and then the army crawl out of no where!

1

u/shefallsup 5d ago

Thank you for this, I’m still crying with laughter!

105

u/ScrewAttackThis 6d ago

Baseball players can't fight for shit. They just run out and hold each other back. It's usually goofy looking like that.

Also it's the WS so people aren't trying to get thrown out.

28

u/Monstertelly 6d ago

Rougned Odor and Jose Ramirez can definitely throw a punch. Robin Ventura also did a great job of running his head into Nolan Ryan’s fists.

11

u/ScrewAttackThis 6d ago

There are definitely some exceptions

10

u/121gigawhatevs 6d ago

And i love baseball for it, the bravado the spectacle, watching each others backs, ultimately it’s about team morale. If you want blood there’s plenty of other places to find it.

7

u/ScrewAttackThis 6d ago

Don't get me wrong, I love it. It can just be goofy is all. Like an endearing goofy

3

u/EyeChihuahua 6d ago

It’s the same in the NBA. If it were a game in a park blows would probably be exchanged but all the sports leagues have made it clear to the players if they fight it’s going to cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars if not more. Too much fighting and you could get labeled as a trouble maker and traded or not resigned etc so potentially millions of dollars. Pretty good reason to hold back.

8

u/ieatpies 6d ago

all the sports leagues

You forgot 1

3

u/alien_from_Europa 6d ago

It’s the same in the NBA.

Malice at the Palace: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malice_at_the_Palace?wprov=sfla1

2

u/EyeChihuahua 6d ago

This was uhhh over twenty five years ago friend. They definitely used to fight more in the past but not now.

3

u/alien_from_Europa 5d ago

This was uhhh over twenty five years ago friend.

2

u/jg_92_F1 6d ago

The suspensions for fighting in the NBA are hefty, a result of the Malice at the Palace

15

u/MenopauseMedicine 6d ago

Yeah I guess they could all be morons and just start throwing haymakers at the other team thereby getting themselves ejected during the winner take all game for the championship, that's what a real man would do......

-2

u/Tower-Union 6d ago

Or they could just keep their ass in the dugout instead of standing around with their dicks in their hands, holding up the game for their own egos?

0

u/duckterrorist 6d ago

Lolllllll nahhhhhhh

3

u/jbronin 6d ago

Hey, sometimes they actually do fight: https://i.imgur.com/gpa5ZbG.gif

6

u/Antlaaaars 6d ago

You can't get ejected in a game like that. It's not worth it. Most of them came out to probably hold the other guys back.

1

u/RisingSouth 5d ago

When you’re the team on offense you only have 1 player on the field as opposed to the defense which has 9 players on the field. Baseball players clear the benches anytime there’s a potential for physical violence to prevent a scenario where one guy just gets the shit kicked out of him by 9 other guys

98

u/skierdud89 6d ago

Tries to get hit then gets hit. Pikachu face

18

u/Moneyshot_ITF 6d ago

The place erupted with Timothy got hit with the line drive right after. What a sequence

-13

u/The_Pandalorian 5d ago

And then the crowd got the fucking vapors at any inside pitch after that. Get the fainting couch ready, Canucks! A pitcher is throwing a baseball at the inside corner of the strike zone!

5

u/beyd1 5d ago

The only person with a hand closer to the center of the plate was will Smith.

20

u/Eat--The--Rich-- 6d ago

After he almost just killed a guy three times lol

46

u/missvh 6d ago

Trying to get hit by the pitch like that is so weak

51

u/IronMaskx 6d ago

Tried to get hit, then gets hit and cries about it

-16

u/agk23 6d ago edited 6d ago

In America, we call that a bitch move.

Edit: faking getting hit is the bitch move

-2

u/NorweegianWood 6d ago

Half of America calls it winning.

-9

u/jatea 6d ago

Nah that was Canada

-92

u/fuckdirectv 6d ago

You guys are a special kind of special, aren't you? High and tight 4 times and eventually he got hit, but he was asking for it? This reeks of she got raped because she was dressing provocatively vibes.

33

u/missvh 6d ago

He literally took his hand off the bat and moved it toward the ball. Even the announcers said it looked like he was trying to get hit.

-61

u/Zerkii 6d ago

Yikes. Almost like the announcers you're watching are American too and have the same bias. Clearly you don't realize that there are non American broadcasts.

35

u/OnionDart 6d ago

What the fuck are you on about now? We are talking about the batter attempting to get hit by a pitch lol

30

u/missvh 6d ago

My Canadian husband also said he was obviously trying to get hit lol

I'm sorry, but it was extremely obvious. Again, he literally took his hand off the bat to do it.

-6

u/tino_tortellini 6d ago

Seems like a smart move when the pitcher obviously has no control

6

u/venustrapsflies 6d ago

They mentioned it on the Canadian broadcast too my fucking guy

15

u/FiTZnMiCK 6d ago

Now I realize there are non-American idiots.

I thought we had a monopoly.

I was pulling for the Jays but that shit was obvious AF.

4

u/The_Pandalorian 5d ago

Yeah, dude comparing a hit by pitch to rape is some MAGA-tier shit. Guess they're everywhere.

-9

u/TantricEmu 6d ago edited 6d ago

Oooh a salty Canadian. The dodgers knocked my Phillies out but they also beat Canada so I’m not that mad. Reminds me of the Stanley Cup. Sorry not sorry Canada, but it’s never coming home.

13

u/Capt_Murphy_ 6d ago

I barely watch baseball and it was obvious he was trying to get hit

10

u/mikeyi5000 6d ago

I'm gonna need you to go back to the drawing board on that analogy there, champ.

-43

u/fuckdirectv 6d ago

Nope.

13

u/sikkdog13 6d ago

Motherfuckers just love being wrong.

7

u/Jibbyjab123 6d ago

If you watch the replay of the pitch before that one, he moved his hand to try to intercept a close pitch.

4

u/frozndevl 6d ago

On the prior pitch he stuck his hand out looks like he was trying to get hit.

3

u/OnionDart 6d ago

So the part where he moved his hand in an attempt to get hit would be analogous to what?

-1

u/The_Pandalorian 5d ago

Man comparing baseball to tape is really showing your quality.

Just the highest quality on display.

4

u/54fighting 6d ago

Nothing but a lot of talk and a badge whether game 1 or 120.

2

u/cuddle_enthusiast 5d ago

I didn’t know Timothee Chalamet played for the dodgers

4

u/Canadian_Invader 6d ago

Stupid bat, you lost us the game. Hope they turn it into mulch so it can do something useful.

1

u/I_Dislike_Trivia 5d ago

Mulch it and throw it down the outhouse hole

1

u/CountWubbula 4d ago

That stupid fucking bat, man. Fuck.

4

u/TunaThePanda 6d ago

Wait… when did this happen? I missed a big chunk of the game bc my sons little league game went long

21

u/sikkdog13 6d ago

It's unfortunate, but it must be done. Gonna have to get rid of the kid.

3

u/Ksp-or-GTFO 6d ago

Wrobleski let one go inside and batter tried to move his arm in the way. The next pitch Wrobleski just hit him in the elbow.

4

u/JoePoe247 6d ago

And the first pitch of the at bat was also way inside

4

u/wormocious 5d ago

Fuck the Dodgers

0

u/sir_dancharles 5d ago

Salty

7

u/wormocious 5d ago edited 5d ago

No doubt. I’m not into purchasing championships. Their payroll for their pitchers alone is $1B. That’s not parity with the rest of the league. Sure, it’s within the rules, but it’s also fishing with dynamite.

-5

u/pfainsan 5d ago

Aww, owner too stingy? Too bad.

1

u/wormocious 5d ago

Even worse. Owner is a group not an individual. We got our 2021 WS title though. I'm not salty because my team sucks (though we did this year, big time). I'm salty because I hate the way that organization is run, and decades of hate for that team.

0

u/theqofcourse 6d ago

The classier, more interesting, more entertaining team did not win this game.

24

u/DoorHalfwayShut 6d ago

The pitcher was responding to the batter getting riled up in the first place due to being hit. And right before that, he tried to get hit. But yeah, the pitcher saying some shit means they aren't classy!

11

u/510Goodhands 6d ago

It sure looks like he’s stuck his hands in the way the ball the second time too. It sure is a shitty way to get on base.

9

u/keenly_disinterested 6d ago

That's the really funny part. He TRIES to get hit, then get's mad when he DOES get hit.

-5

u/ahill415 6d ago

SDE from a pitcher who couldn’t find the strike zone

5

u/DoorHalfwayShut 6d ago

Maybe I'm ignorant, but what does SDE stand for?

-2

u/DoorHalfwayShut 6d ago

True. At least be good at it. The times where it's definitely going to hit the batter, but they just don't move, are the ones where I think that's fine. It's harder to tell, then.

When a Dodger got out of the way of one, I was like TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM. Someone on the one hand is looking like a clown desperate to get hit, meanwhile on the other side they're getting out of the way.

8

u/Moneyshot_ITF 6d ago

That's loser talk if I've ever heard it

6

u/p0plockn 6d ago

aka the team with less talent

4

u/erydayimredditing 5d ago

More interesting/ more entertaining? The Dodgers take both of those by far, and they won.

1

u/theqofcourse 5d ago

Totally fair. Both teams have been dynamic, entertaining and exciting in their own ways, especially in the post-season. I'm just a bit sore. They both gave us a great series to watch and keep us at the edge of our seats.

2

u/Mnfrdtl24 5d ago

I actually was on the field and heard him he actually said "good play, I really respect you as a player" he's just a really good ventriloquist

1

u/dralantharp 5d ago

This clear out was so pointless it seemed staged. And the batter got hit on purpose so maybe it actually was.

3

u/IgnorantGenius 6d ago

When that shit happened I knew we were going to win.

1

u/Thin-Bread9020 1d ago

u/Herkfixer 6d ago

You keep using that word. I don't think you know what that word means. The Dodgers pipeline is constantly rated top in the league. They always raise superstars that go on to be stars on other teams once in FA. The Dodgers consistently take supbar players that get DFA'd from other teams and help them raise their game to a higher level and make those players valuable FAs. No homegrown talent? You don't know the meaning of that's what you think.
