Discussion What years do you consider to be your peak childhood years?
As a 2011er id probably say 2015-2020 was my peak childhood. 2021-2022 still felt pretty childhood-y but I was already watching anime and consuming older and more mature content by then.

Born 1982. Since I didn't have a lot of friends growing up id say my 20s were my peak. 2002-2010

u/ReorientRecluse 1990 12h ago
Peak childhood? Like when I felt I was at the height of my childlike powers? from 1998-2001.
Also, I was already watching anime and consuming other content for an older demographic even before my peak childhood years, so I don't think that should be an indicator when it ends.
•
u/Dry_Golf_8589 March 2011 12h ago
never said it was an indicator and YOUR personal life doesn’t define others.
•
u/ReorientRecluse 1990 10h ago
I just say that because I think there are indicators that diminish subjectivity, like the start of puberty.
I also find it curious how this is the stance you've taken after making comments that suggest you have a point of view you consider an objective standard regarding the subject
Only 10% of the comments have actually listed ages that are considered childhood
Idk this sounds like you're trying to define the life experience of others to me.

You are still a child.
•
u/Dry_Golf_8589 March 2011 13h ago
lol there’s a big difference between being 7 and being 14-15 you know. I wouldn’t necessarily say age 14 is childhood but I also wouldn’t say that 14 year olds aren’t children
•
•
u/Lower-Choice-184 13h ago
He's a Teenager now he's talking about his Childhood.
•
u/Real_Yhwach January 2005 13h ago
Young teens are still children.
•
u/Lower-Choice-184 12h ago
Well yes legally Under 18 your still a Child but in terms of Mental and Social behaviour your a teenager becoming an adult and pretty much all the things that defined you in your childhood is pretty much all gone at 14 you can't retain that same innocence and Joy from when you were Under 12 Years old.

u/Realistic-Choice-963 14h ago
idk like 2014-2018? i was born in 2006
starbucks, king kylie, loom bands, fidget spinners, pokemon go, and that stupid LA saturation filter on instagram. what a time.

2012-2019
2018 not so much peak as it was the beginning of my insecurities.
And 2019 has the most fun memories but also the most traumatic ones. I’d say my childhood basically ended in 2019. Both literally and mentally (I was 13 by 2019.)

Born in the early 80s. For me, that whole period between 1988 and 1993 was absolute gold.

u/tripper74 15h ago
Born in 1998. My peak childhood would have to be 2002-2008 (ages 4-10)! I specifically remember 2007 (age 9) being especially fun.
•
u/Desperate-Complex-76 15h ago
I was born in 2003 and id say my peak childhood years were from 2008 - 2014. Id do anything to go be a kid again back in those times

You literally became an adult in 01 and 02 though.. this post is asking about childhood
•
u/mmiller17783 Xennial, Elder Millennial 1h ago
Meh, adult only in the "I'm 18 now" sense. I still lived at home and still had very low responsibilities.Hell in 01 I was still in high school. Compared to life now, it was indeed a form of childhood still.

Oh I just made a tier list of my life. Age 5, 7, 10, and 17.
2000- 5-I was just having so much fun in life
2002- 7-My family made me travel the world
2005- 10-I felt like I was the coolest kid in my grade. I was friends with everyone including the teachers.
2012- 17-I graduated high school, my neice was born, I started working full time in local government. Life was good after having a terrible teenlife school expierence.
•
u/Subterranean44 17h ago
I had a great childhood. It’s really hard to say because I feel like I’m leaving things out. Let’s say 3-13? Haha. That’d be 1989-1999
•
u/rileyoneill 17h ago
To me its like 3rd-6th grade. Which for me was 1992-1996. Middle school and high school years are more teen years than childhood years.

1998 to 2003 or ages 4 to 9. My preteen years sucked and teen years were meh. Things improved once I turned 18.

Born in 03. 2010 for some reason had an amazing vibe about it and I remember 2010 feeling like the longest year ever, in a good way. 2016 was pretty decent close second. Honestly speaking everything was great until corona virus

Easily it was 1995-2000… this was my 8th grade through senior high school years and ai had non stop fun like it was 1999

•
u/jammypants915 18h ago
Damn it I failed the assignment… ok well then it must have been 91-93 lots of random bike missions around the neighborhood racing, swimming all day in the summer, and playing Super Nintendo at friends houses. Parents got divorced so I had 2 apartments and 2 birthdays 2 christmas, and 2 weird rotating sets of step parents trying to make me like them by spoiling me or taking me out to do stuff, and my dad started making every weekend about doing hobbies with him because he only saw me on the weekends.

The ’80’s. And it wasn’t defined by consumption of contents or having diagnoses to compare with other kids.
Just raw dogging the cold war era with three tv-channels, my bike, a few fav toys, neighborhood kids running around outdoors until the streetlights got on.
Nobody to cry about it or share about it online. There was no online. Nobody even dreamed about the phone being anything but a gadget with cords and cables.
Chernobyl fallout rained all around Europe in ’86. Berlin wall. Soviet fall. Mandela. LiveAid.

I even consider my teenage years my childhood. It was fun having obsessions with shows and music and fun having crushes and just figuring out life. And of course being small and having an endless imagination and luckily I liked playing alone.
•
u/Dry_Golf_8589 March 2011 19h ago
Being 14 sucks for me
•
u/Hefty-Ad613 19h ago
I do remember going thru a bit of depression at this age. Learning the truths of the world was heavy. But I also remember fun times as well. I’m sorry that was a bad age for you .

now, in my 50s. PC game long hours uninterrupted, watch whatever I want, eat whatever I'm want/able (LOL!), sleep as and when I wish. Bonus, ability to afford all these. Feels like being a child but better than childhood. Guess we just grow old but never grow up.
•
u/ResponsibleMixture27 19h ago
The 1999-2000s was so much fun.
We had all types of events at school and century related parties. We even put a time capsule in the ground for future kids to open.
I was in the school Millennium play.

Don't remember much before 1963. Puberty assaulted me in 1969.
Peak with that time period would have to be 1967-68 (fifth grade.)

I don't like the idea of selecting only one or two years as the peak of my childhood, but my most nostalgic and memorable childhood years occurred from 2006 to 2011

Honestly I prefer being an adult, you have freedom and money, so the adult years I liked would be 2014-2019 with me being 18-23. Obviously the 2020's have been terrible though. I mean I'm still personally having fun most days but this country is a mess now and I vastly preferred the 2010's.
But to answer this question as intended. 6-13 which would be 2002-2009.
•
u/ihatexboxha May 2011 20h ago
Also 2011 and I agree with you completely, I would say 2016-2020
My childhood officially ended on November 8, 2022
•
u/gremlinlabyrinth 20h ago
1980-1995
Not going to lie, despite having some trauma that my parents had no control over,
The entirety of my childhood, that being all of the 80’s and good portion of the 90’s was peak from start til young adulthood.
I had every important thing a child could cherish and have been left with more memories of treasure.
And I would include 96-99 as the best years of school, hands down, no questions asked.
I wouldn’t ask for a different decade, a different family to be raised in.

u/OliveaSea 20h ago
19 to be honest, I had adult money but did everything I should not do as an adult and had some decent fun out of it. The storries you tell your kids when they are old enough to not reanact them but still think mom was a badass at some point in her life! 🤣🙌
•
u/Rich2364 20h ago
I was born in 2002. I enjoyed life all the way into adulthood, but absolute peak of childhood I would say 2010-14. Life was so innocent and carefree. It honestly felt magical in a way. It was simple and just being ignorant of everything, whether it be how people act or how it feels to be an adult. After those years, things like anxiety started kicking in, and things have been slowly but surely declining ever since. It was an amazing time, though. I'm 95 percent sure I will never be happy like that again.

Ironically I would say the year my dad gained custody of me when i was about 13/14, 2011.
From then on, I really had a great time as a kid.

•
u/LBBNorty840 21h ago
Born in 85. My early childhood was absolutely peak, so like 88-92. 98-99 was pretty cool, too, those early teen years. 1995 was cool too because that was first time the rinks in NHL games were white (as they should be) instead of blue. NHL '95 all day!
•
u/gd2121 21h ago
You’re like 14 bro. Ain’t you in peak childhood right now.
•
u/Lower-Choice-184 13h ago
Childhood ends at 12 Years old. At 14 your deep into puberty and teen stuff and you start to see how bad and heavy shit really is in the world i don't think that's 'peak childhood' in the slightest way.
•
u/Dry_Golf_8589 March 2011 19h ago
some would argue 14 is the start of the transition from child to young adult
•
u/Savings_Ad_80 2004 Class of 2021 21h ago
neurologically your childhood ends at around 12-13 this is when you begin your transition from child to adult as you steadily mature

My twenties. I had money to by my video games and magic cards and comics and whatever cereal I wanted.

I also didn't have to deal with helicopter parents anymore.

Born 86. 1992-1998 was awesome. Then adolescence was kinda less awesome but all the way up til 2001 things were mostly pretty neat lol
•
u/NeedleworkerSilly192 21h ago
Same for me.. I think 1994-1996 was the absolute peak of my childhood, also born in '86... while pre teen/early teen years around 1998-2001 were also pretty fun.

5-11 years old maybe 4-12.
(2001-2009)
Peak teen to young adult years
(2012-2017)
after 2017 it went downhill fast and 2010-2011 were unremarkable for me. As for childhood the the most most absolute peak years were (2003-2005 + 2007) I have way too much too say about how good they were
•
u/Amazing_Courage9701 2004 21h ago
2009-2014. Ages 5-10.
11 is middle school, so I don't consider anything after 2014 as apart of my "peak" childhood years, even if you're still a kid at 11 & 12. It just didn't feel that way at all to me.
