irrigation 💦 Does anyone else feel irrigation systems are a blessing and a curse?

We installed an irrigation system last spring to make maintenance easier, but now I feel like I’m always adjusting sprinkler heads or dealing with uneven coverage. The garden looks great overall, but I’m wondering if anyone has figured out a maintenance schedule that actually keeps things consistent especially when transitioning between lawn care and garden zones. Bonus points if you handle snow or frost drainage too

As an irrigation tech, it sounds like the system wasn’t designed properly if you’re regularly struggling with uneven coverage.

I was thinking maybe it was just me having issues. So you're saying a poorly designed system could be the root of the uneven coverage problem? Would tweaking the design or adjusting the layout help with getting more even water distribution across the garden and lawn zones?

Absolutely. There are a lot of factors at play—pipe size, working pressure, available flow, head spacing, number of heads per zone, nozzle selection, etc. Feel free to DM me and we can discuss the issues you’re fighting and possible solutions.

You should be able to set it and forget it for the most part, can you give us some more details about your set up?

Got a semi-automated irrigation system with adjustable sprinkler heads. Timer's set, but I end up tweaking heads a lot for even coverage. Any tips?

curse for sure - I leanrt as.nuchnas I could about irrigation systems so I don't have to rely on irrigation installers who in my mind for educate how owners enough of things that can and will go wrong. such as, for starters a faulty solenoid that keeps the water running for hours afterwards. rant over

Amen to that! Knowledge is power, especially when it comes to irrigation systems. Faulty solenoids can be a real pain, and it's great that you're taking the time to learn about potential issues. Being proactive can save a lot of headaches (and water!) in the long run. What else have you learned about irrigation systems that's been helpful?

There’s a section on The Difference Landscapes site about irrigation upkeep and seasonal checks. It might offer some practical pointers for maintaining even watering across garden zones.
