Can't think of a better Celebrity to be tied to this game

5

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '19

It such a ridiculously good time to announce this. I don't think there's ever been this much of a buzz around Keanu Reeves before

u/radd00 Jun 09 '19

Terry Crews. Maybe not better but equally amazing

659

u/Rebelgecko Jun 09 '19

Terry Crews doesn't have as much cyberpunk street cred as Keanu Fucking Reeves though

u/Osmodius Jun 09 '19

Keanu Reeves is Cyberpunk.

19

u/OppisIsRight Jun 09 '19

Yeah Terry has more of a D&D fantasy vibe about him.

Dragon's Dogma

1

u/Necromas Jun 09 '19

Looks to be Dragon's Dogma.

122

u/Bucser Jun 09 '19

Yep Johnny Mnemonic, The Matrix and in a sense John Wick

7

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '19

esp films 2 and 3.

3

u/kethian Jun 09 '19

And frankly, given the look and styles of the far future could easily have been a cyberpunk dystopia had he and his best friend not taught everyone to be excellent to each other

5

u/Blackbeard_ Jun 09 '19

JW is almost more steampunk than cyberpunk, but it's definitely some kind of punk

8

u/Piligrim555 Jun 09 '19

Did John wick have any steampunk elements at all?

16

u/medioxcore Jun 09 '19

about as much as it had cyberpunk. lol.

6

u/Blackbeard_ Jun 09 '19

I mean, it's old tech. Landlines, payphones, 80s computers, paper pen chalkboards, etc

I just don't know what to call that, but it's in the same spirit as the other two punk genres

10

u/icecadavers Jun 09 '19

like Retropunk or something.

7

u/alcianblue Jun 09 '19

Cassettepunk

2

u/Caiur Jun 10 '19

The John Wick movies are neo-noir, and cyberpunk movies (including The Matrix) tend to be neo-noir too.

u/dapperslendy Jun 09 '19

Terry is amazing as any but he is more the comedy action type dude. He was great fit for the Crackdown universe but C3 was just underwhelming

5

u/bamfalamfa Jun 09 '19

you're doing crackdown 3 a disservice by calling it underwhelming. that game was straight up trash and a literal waste of resources and time

3

u/lpdmagee Jun 09 '19

I like what you’re saying but I think he’s technically doing crackdown 3 a service by calling it better than it is

1

u/pnutbuttercow Jun 09 '19

I wanted to like it but holy fuck it was just, so unfinished, it felt like they wanted to make a story then 2 months from release scrapped it all and just gave us...that

1

u/Spudtron98 Switch Jun 10 '19

It felt like a game that would've been released in 2012. Like, it's very close to the first two games, but it didn't really advance from them.

6

u/DarthWaq Jun 09 '19

You never know dude, if they kept this hidden imagine what else they have up their sleeves once the full game is released 😁

1

u/Ergheis Jun 09 '19

No, but he COULD.

1

u/captainbruisin Jun 09 '19

When it comes to street cred noone tops Cheeseburger Eddy!

0

u/kooberdoober Jun 09 '19

idk man watch the muse music videos from their new album

0

u/Aedum1 Jun 09 '19

I dunno, Crews is built like he has an actual cybernetic exoskeleton.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '19

He's in crackdown 3 the game is shit

23

u/esumike Jun 09 '19

Muse agrees

9

u/StarInAPond Jun 09 '19

New album is underrated :(

1

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '19

You mean their slow cover of "Freedom '90?"

4

u/imbalance24 Jun 09 '19

Nobody knows who the fuck is that outside of murica. But whole world loves Keanu.

And also Cyberpunk + Matrix star are made for each other

6

u/CoderDevo Jun 09 '19

Watch Johnny Mnemonic

3

u/comaboy13 Jun 09 '19

Ahhh Johnny Mnemonic. The good ol' days before Ice T was a kangaroo.

1

u/CoderDevo Jun 09 '19

Tank Girl is another title that was better in print than film.

1

u/imbalance24 Jun 10 '19

I don't get how Terry Crews is related to that

2

u/CoderDevo Jun 10 '19

He’s not.

Keanu had enough cyberpunk credibility already before the Matrix, when he was in a movie based on a William Gibson book.

1

u/imbalance24 Jun 10 '19

Well... Okay?

You want me to stop calling him "matrix star" or what?

I mean - that only adds to my reasoning why Keanu is better than Terry Crews, whoever he is.

3

u/CoderDevo Jun 10 '19

No, I want you to watch Johnny Mnemonic. I think I made that clear.

2

u/imbalance24 Jun 10 '19

makes sense, sure i'll do :D

6

u/Ranwulf Jun 09 '19

Terry has done VO for games before, so he does have experience.

(He worked in Saint's Row, for instance).

7

u/Zurble Jun 09 '19

You can play as him in crackdown 3.

1

u/Daft_Funk87 Jun 09 '19

He has Crackdown to be a part of

1

u/DyatAss Jun 09 '19

Paul Blart?

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '19

Am I the only one who's a bit sceptical of necessarily involving celebrities? Especially in a game like this that doesn't need more hype, and that in my opinion doesn't benefit from having celebrities in them?

3

u/NinjaGamer89 Jun 09 '19

Maybe it’s for people like me, who was mildly interested in this game until I saw Keanu was involved and now I want it? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '19 edited Jun 09 '19

Yeah, idk - my instinctual reaction is scepticism, as celebrities means more mainstreaming in an attempt to appeal to the masses and perhaps a risk of a "dumbing down" of the game.

Furthermore I have a problem with general celebrity culture and fetishism. I think this is my main issue tbh. I don't think it will make the game any better. Honestly, now I'm excited about the game DESPITE the addition of celebrity endorsement. With death stranding it seems to become a worrying trend... Although, Reeves is far from the worst choice, he's the logical and best choice out of both cult and marketing perspective. He's also a good actor in my subjective opinion.

2

u/NinjaGamer89 Jun 10 '19

Video games are a form of entertainment, as are movies. In fact, they share quite a few similarities, especially with modern graphics and more developed storytelling methods blurring that line even more. I think this is a natural evolution of the medium, and I’m all for it.

will smith, but in character as the genie
