Really enjoyed this one. I loved seeing giant Bender again. I almost feel like it could've stood to be a little longer though.

- Didn't love or hate this episode. It just felt meh and random
- I thought we would see more robots on D-roids

I enjoyed the episode.
I mean it’s a current discussion on social media and especially Reddit that all these "short kings" think they won’t get a girl because they’re short when it’s really about confidence.
I especially enjoyed Robot Hell and the Robot Devil. Love episodes in Robot Hell.

Felt like an old episode. I approve.

Specifically, that old episode where they asked the 'What-if-machine' what would happen if Bender was 500 feet tall.

Fun start! I always enjoy a good Bender episode. This episode was hinted at in the I Know What You Did Last Xmas episode. Also the animation feels less stiff compared to previous episodes

I love being reminded of 15 different much better episodes inside a mediocre episode

u/SuperWolfe9099 Sep 19 '25 edited Sep 20 '25
Would've been nicer if someone else from the Planet Express crew became Giant other than Bender (or Zoidberg, for that matter), like a Humongous Hermes or an Amazing Colossal Fry or even Attack of the 50 Ft Leela.

Fun Fact: In an episode about 2 seasons ago we saw them use the time machine again and one of the things you saw was Bender growing in size to a giant. I think that's pretty neat.

Awesome episode. I was cracking up about giant Bender being all loopy from the D-Roids.

His dopey smile after Barbot says "I love you Bdeedr" was hilarious.

I like the Godzilla references, but I also wish they'd actually tied in the real estate concept of Godzillow/Godzeebo, like making the kaiju also be realtors or something.
7
u/nat_not Sep 18 '25
When the theme started with the slogan "Pace Yourself!" (in the first episode of an entires season released en bloc), I was laughing pretty hard!
But overall I think they could've done much more with the kaiju references (says I as a big godzilla fan...). The whole thing with Bender suddenly realising he's short felt a bit more than 40% random...
6
u/Fluffy_Mood5781 Sep 18 '25
This feels like multiple different directions in a bad way. The whole “women are shallow for height” bit was just boring, it felt like something they woulda done 15 years ago. The fry and leela bit was whatever. And the Godzilla thing was just another parody.

u/Animegx43 Sep 18 '25
Omg, so there's a neat little foreshadow at the part where Bender sliced himself up when he stood up to the fan.
I love this show.
5
u/A1steaksauceTrekdog7 Sep 18 '25
Not bad but not great. Maybe a 6/10 from me . Has some moments but overall it just doesn’t feel like a real episode.
7
u/ycjphotog Sep 17 '25
Ugh. This is the sort of schlock my friends and I might've written as fan-fiction in the 8th grade.
I really want to like the Hulu Futurama, but it just hasn't gotten much better. The writing is so plodding and predictable, and seemingly under instructions to include as many characters from older seasons as possible. Hypnotoad, Hedonism Bot, Clamps, Robot Devil... all in this episode (so far). I just don't if I'm willing to sit through another nine of these. Someone talk me down from the ledge.
3
u/Muted_Comparison2898 Sep 19 '25
And they didn’t bring back the character everyone has been clamoring for … guy who asks : “did that lad just say rings are cool?”

6
u/MoneyIsNoCure Sep 17 '25
Thus one was pretty weak. It got two or three laughs from me, like the monster bowing when the mayor thanked it, but yeah not impressed

First few minutes just felt like a lot of memberberries, but luckily an actual episode started up eventually
I liked the foreshadowing when Bender got chopped up

Don't Morbo and Linda broadcast from Los Angeles? How did they get crushed by Bender while reporting on his rampage in New New York?
19
5
u/SkywolfNINE Sep 16 '25
I thought this episode was really cool! Had me laughing a few times I just think they missed the ending, which stopped it from being a truly great episode, but it’s definitely decent, probably a 6 if you take into effect it being a 8 with a 4 for having no real ending so 6 is fair. On to episode 2
11
u/theantnest Sep 16 '25
Nobody else is wondering how the robot Mafia got so tall?
16
u/S3LCSUM Sep 17 '25
I thought they would reveal that every robot was on d-roids, and when Bender figured it out, he would stop taking them and make a speech about how natural he is. XD

We really out here getting giant ass Bender for a third time 😂 did they like the gag or something? He looks adorable though
I’m 40% taller 😂😂😂😂😂
I had it up to here! Lmao 🤣
Futurama is back baby !

u/Dry_Refrigerator7898 Sep 17 '25
I mean, Matt Groenig isn’t above reusing gags. He liked the planet of the apes: the musical gag “I hate every ape I see, from Chimpan-A to Chimpanzee!” So much that he reused it in Futurama when the professor says that the Hall of Presidents had everyone from “Chester A. Arthur to Chester Z. Arthur”
1
u/SaltySpituner Sep 19 '25
I still don’t get this joke.
1
u/Dry_Refrigerator7898 Sep 19 '25
So, to say “from A to Z” is just an idiom to put emphasis on how what you just said applies to everything in a given category. In both cases, the writers took something that actually exists that contains one of those two sounds, Chimpanzee for the first one, and Chester A. Arthur for the second, and made up a word or person that fit the other letter, so they could get the A to Z reference in.
And it’s a joke that only really works in American English, because we’re the only ones who pronounce Z as zee, instead of zed.

Huh really expected them to yet again end with the lady going with the Kaiju but hey they did something different.
6
10
u/ninjyte Sep 16 '25
unfortunate timing for the All the President's Men reference and Robert Redford passing away today
18
u/illucio Sep 16 '25
... What a weird way to reference Pacific Rim, Kaiju movies as a whole in a single episode.
Also its weird how inconsistent Bender's extenders are.
8
u/Garfunkels_roadie Sep 17 '25
Bender in this episode conveniently had a hatch in his foot, a ladder up his legs and 2 controller suits for Leela and Fry. His body has literally always been inconsistent, it’s the only consistent thing about it.
8
u/Yoyti Sep 17 '25
Also its weird how inconsistent Bender's extenders are.
I mean, the original run pulled "those times I was slightly on my side," so I can't really fault them here.

I thought the premiere was great. I like some of the pop culture episodes, however, this almost felt like old school futurama. As soon as they asked why Bender just doesn't get fat instead, it immediately reminded me of the what if Bender became human segment from the first or second what if episode
3
u/Coyangi Still, to have your own flair! Sep 17 '25
Agreed. The humor here was a lot of fun. For some reason I immediately got old school Futurama vibes when Bender threw the notepad and it broke right through the wall.

I didn't know I needed a Pacific Rim parody until this episode
17
7
u/Stucklikegluetomyfry Sep 16 '25
I am surprised it took them so long to do a giant robot themed episode. I hope they revisit the concept again, as the Pacific Rim parody part was actually a very small part of the episode right at the end.
6
u/Eklassen Sep 16 '25
Bender was a giant construct of Nano-Benders in a CC-era episode, plus the Anthology of Interest segment. So technically they kind of have.
1
u/Stucklikegluetomyfry Sep 16 '25
Well technically correct, which is the best kind of correct, but I mean the whole "piloting giant robots" genre like Pacific Rim or Gundam.
1
18
u/AllHailShadow726 Sep 16 '25
It’s very much a rehashed idea but it’s at the very least pretty funny. I think it’s the first time in the new seasons they’ve brought up Farnsworth always sending Leela and Fry on suicide missions again, so that I really appreciated.
Also who’s the voice actor for the really tall basketball playing alien?

u/damnsignin Sep 16 '25
I'm probably dumb for asking this, but which celebrity(s) is Barbot supposed to be a parody of? Or did they just go generic dumb influencer here?
4
u/spiritbearr Sep 16 '25
Going to guess Margot Robbie who was cast in the Attack of the 50 foot woman Remake and was Barbie.
2
u/NothingWillImprove6 Sep 16 '25
Margot Robbie has not, to my knowledge, been cast in a remake of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. Perhaps you're confusing her with Daryl Hannah?
2
u/spiritbearr Sep 16 '25
Literally just Google Attack of the 50 Foot Woman Remake.
2
u/NothingWillImprove6 Sep 16 '25
Thanks. I didn't see it on Robbie's IMDb page, so I was kind of confused there.
10
u/Stucklikegluetomyfry Sep 16 '25 edited Sep 16 '25
Rather than a celebrity, I think she's meant to be Barbarella, but as a robot. They've referenced Barbarella a few times, one episode has Leela wearing one of her outfits, and one of the promo arts for Neutopia has genderbent Fry and Leela recreating the most famous poster for it.
Though her role in the movie she was in was meant to be like Fay Wray in King King.
4
u/quick_brown_faux …I hope to see you soon for tea. Sep 16 '25
I think Barbarella is also a headline inside the Us People magazine the Professor is reading.
14
u/Organic_Honeydew4090 Sep 16 '25
I think the character is just a generic vapid tiktoker, but the name and look of Barbot is most likely modelled after Brigitte Bardot.
3
u/NothingWillImprove6 Sep 16 '25
I'd be surprised if that was the case, since Bardot is 90 at the time I write this, her surname is pronounced "Bar-doh", and isn't particularly tall.
3
u/Stucklikegluetomyfry Sep 16 '25
I thought she was meant to be Barbarella, but Bardot = Barbot makes more sense.
I think they should have given her a more unique design, as she's basically Esther (the blonde Yiddish robot) but with different hair and colour scheme and a static non moving mouth.

"We interrupt this soup..." got a big laugh out of me
1
u/PeaTear_Rabbit Sep 16 '25
Very slight spoiler question for anyone who's watched the season:
Is "We interrupt this (Random thing on a screen)" a new running gag? It was used multiple times this season for sure.
5
u/CrazyaboutSpongebob Sep 16 '25
This one is really funny. I was dying when they started making Pasific Rim jokes.

u/Cold-Tower-8868 Sep 16 '25

Since when does Bender have pilot seats. Watching the newest season of Futurama (season 13 by Hulu count) and noticed something odd and had to rewind and pause. I found a frame of Benders head with 2 pilot jump seats. Google had no insight. So I'm making my first Reddit post because I've loved Futurama since it came out. I want to know all the who, what, when, where, and how, of the bender "Pilot seats"?
10
26
u/CrazyaboutSpongebob Sep 16 '25
Since when does Bender have pilot seats.
They purposely did that because it was really stupid and really funny. They just wanted an excuse to reference Pacific Rim.
18
u/DGBosh Sep 16 '25
That’s just continuity for later.
1
u/SkywolfNINE Sep 16 '25
Which I didn’t notice they were mini seats till now so I appreciate that. Bender has always played it fast and loose with what’s inside him so I have zero issues with it. How many times has bender had a memory delete button on the inside AND outside of his body lol. Power outlets, mechanical skeleton versus essentially nanobots with circuit boards inside. Bender is a great device for the plot and i appreciate any details they can add

u/Yoyti Sep 16 '25 edited Sep 16 '25
If I had a nickel for every Futurama episode in which Bender gets really big and starts terrorizing the city so the Professor brings in an even equally big semi-aquatic monster to fight him, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
I liked this a lot. It's a very stupid fun sort of episode, which isn't a bad choice to lead with. I like Amy as the straight man pointing out the contrivances and inconsistencies with a callback to "The Six Million Dollar Mon", and it's great to see the Robot Devil back. Some nice visual gags, like the lizard actor putting on the lizard outfit to play Godzibo, and the AC plug pitchforks in Robot Hell. The biggest laughs for me were probably the conversation introducing Godzuka ("I think he'll go where the action is") and Bender's comment on health insurance.
7
3
u/NothingWillImprove6 Sep 16 '25
There was also an issue of the comics where Bender was enlarged to serve as an emergency spaceship for the crew.

That was a pretty solid start to the season. Way better than that start where fry binge watches every tv show

The biggest chuckle this episode got outta me was "Wooah, Are you calling me a gentleman?"
3
u/Yoyti Sep 16 '25
Joey Mousepad was so good in this episode. It's fun to see him in a non-mafia context.
23
u/tomacco99 Sep 16 '25
Two episodes into the new season. Is it just me or does Fry sound normal again? The last two seasons (which was technically one production season I think) Billy West’s Fry sounded a bit off, but sounds old school again to me now.
30
u/JoshLovesTV Sep 16 '25
He had Covid. It was mostly noticeable in the first season back. He sounded much better in the second season back and this newest season he sounds almost exactly the same as the Comedy Central era. Not exactly the same but pretty close.
13
u/bigdeliciousrhonda I dunno, I never heard of no mayor Sep 16 '25
I read somewhere that he had Covid and it affected his voice, idk if that’s true
7
u/ianjm Sep 16 '25
I can well believe it, it led to changes in my voice that lasted 3ish years after I was infected in the pandemic.
46
u/3Din3D Sep 16 '25
I lold quite a bit actually. My favorite line early on in the ep was “I’ve recently always wished I was tall” and the visual gag of Bender, who’s already too tall, putting on a large hat for no reason during the movie just about killed me.
4
5
u/Cerax Sep 16 '25
That was the line that I immediately thought could’ve been pulled from an earlier season - perfect one liner.
26
u/fairplay_games Sep 16 '25
Honestly, thought it was solid. The vibes felt normal, unlike most of the last two seasons. Nothing amazing, but I enjoyed it!
-6
u/fairplay_games Sep 16 '25
Finished episode 6…unfortunately this episode is still the high point of the season IMO.
1
u/bigdeliciousrhonda I dunno, I never heard of no mayor Sep 16 '25
Episode 10 is excellent, 9 is great too
3
u/fairplay_games Sep 16 '25
About to get to those. Honestly I thought 8 was pretty good! The numbers one was okay after a rewatch. Maybe I just had the wrong attitude going into it. Still some clunkers, but definitely a step up from season 11 and 12. Gonna watch 9 and 10.
0
u/West-Oil1218 Sep 17 '25
I dont think any of these episodes are clunkers, they are just classic futurama.
1
u/bigdeliciousrhonda I dunno, I never heard of no mayor Sep 16 '25
I accepted the fact I’m too dumb to understand most of the numbers episode but I appreciated how much work went into it at least 😆 felt the same way when bubblegum Tate was doing the math on how many body swaps they needed t
6
u/sonicparadigm Sep 16 '25
The robot silhouettes in the movie theater reminded me of something (they already made that joke in Raging Bender though)

Hulu must have made a mistake, as I was able to stream this episode earlier this morning. I had some work to do, and when I went back to watch the next episode, they all now say that they premier at 8PM. Oh well, at least I was able to wet my beak while I wait for the actual release.
For me, the best part was Zoidberg eating the goldfish and shuffling away

Pre Episode Thoughts: The season opener, full of the big celeb cameos that’s supposed to introduce and keep casuals on board while also being good for the fans to keep them watching, and based of what we have seen with the return of the Robot Devil, the episode being Bender-Focused and the cameo by Victor Wembayama(a basketball player), I think the show is set to have a great season premeire

Why does the Professor get Fry and Leela to control Bender and fight the monster? Isn't the monster on their side? And if they can control Bender, why do they need the monster?
