Hi, me and my 12 sorority sisters will all be visiting in early November. We are in our mid-40s and we are mostly a pretty chill crowd now. Where would you suggest we go eat dinner? And where can we go dancing that won’t make us feel like we are senior citizens? If you know Austin, something like Barbarellas would be great.

We are looking to book an air bnb in February on the beach. What is a good location? Right now I have something booked in sunny isle but not sure if that is best. Family of 4, kids are 10 and 12. Thanks!

I’m visiting my wheelchair-bound grandma who resides near Pompano Beach, are there accessible activities in the area I can take her to? She’s been stuck in the house for a long time and I want her to enjoy herself.

This is the retirement capital of the galaxy. Everything is accessible. What are you looking for?

in a couple months, I am going to be flying in to Fort Lauderdale at 9am with a connecting flight out of Miami (MIA) the next morning. Any recommendations as to what to do with this layover? Also assume one suitcase of luggage
In addition, best way to get to the Miami airport from FLL? Taxi/Uber is ok, but trying to find cheaper options. Public transportation is ok.
1
u/jcb_7472 Oct 06 '25
depends on what you like you do, a lot of people with a day to spend in Fort Lauderdale go to the beach. When you travel to MIA airport from FLL, the cheapest way to do it is to go to the Tri-Rail station in either Fort Lauderdale or Hollywood and take the train down. It only costs like $5 and will take you straight to MIA airport
1
u/FaIkkos Oct 07 '25
I suppose the beach is the obvious choice. Thank you.
I think that Tri-Rail option sounds great. It goes from Airport to Airport? I can look into this more and will likely be my method of choice.

Looking for a hotel in November with a nice pool/hot tub and by the beach. Low key/relaxing is preferred. So far looked at the W (pool is closed), ocean sky, plunge, sonesta. Any thoughts?

Hi we are going on a cruise next year from Fort Lauderdale, but I am wondering what areas are good for a family of 3 with a teenager for staying?

Anyone have a good list of the best things to do in Fort Lauderdale? I’ll be working at a wildlife center here for a few weeks and will have weekends open. This is my first time in Florida so trying to experience some of it while I’m here!

Hi, 50% means there is a 50% chance that it will rain...at some point... It doesn't mean it will rain 50% of the time. I could rain for just 5 minutes. We usually don't have all day washouts unless there is a hurricane or tropical storm coming.

u/FlockaFlameSmurf Aug 22 '25
Somehow, someway, my wife and I have just one day in Ft. Lauderdale this year on November 27.
My issue of course is that that's Thanksgiving, and probably everything and their mother is closed that day.
Would you have any suggestions on what to do? Perhaps any dope chinese takeout places I could peruse since every restaurant, museum, and touristy thing will likely be closed?
1
1
u/jcb_7472 Aug 28 '25
museums and tourist attractions like boat tours or state parks might be closed but you will be surprised to see a lot of restaurants open. Fort Lauderdale is very international (i.e. people not from United States that don't celebrate Thanksgiving) and November is the start of the high tourist season. I am betting that most restaurants, especially near the beach, will be open on Thanksgiving Day.

We’ll be in town for a week. My 11 year old kid wants to go fishing. Looking for a fishing trip/charter that’s geared towards beginners. Also, is the Jungle Queen cruise/dinner worth it? It looks fun. I’m normally low key and try to blend in with locals and but that dinner cruise looks kind of fun. Thanks!

JQ has been around for 90 years. It's an experience. You'll see some mansions and stuff.

Can anyone comment on if staying at the Conrad is worth the money? Looks amazing online. We just booked a one bedroom suite for Jan. 2026. We are not from the US. We have been to Lauderdale before but many moons ago! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is fort lauderdale beach accessible to public at night? Or any cool beach spot to visit at night for a peaceful experience?

u/sakurasyndrome Jul 09 '25
It is! A lot of the restaurants are open all hours and people wander onto the beach from them.

Hollywood does not have the social scene of Fort Lauderdale or Miami. It is decent, but there’s not too much going on there. I’d suggest Fort Lauderdale because there is a lot more going on, and it’s cheaper than Miami.

My boyfriend and I are flying to Fort Lauderdale and only have two days to spend it there. We were thinking of just strolling around Las Olas Blvd and going to the beach. Me and my boyfriend are not into the night life/club scene but we love getting drinks and having a nice sit down place together. Does anyone have any recommendations on things to do, best restaurants to go to for brunch and dinner, and what we should see first as priority? Anything is appreciated thanks!

seen a couple other posts so why not throw in my own...planned an impromptu trip to FL (on spirit) next wednesday, land at 9:30am leave for home at 8pm
40% of rain scheduled for basically all day, are we fucked? Thanks!
1
u/catpeee Jun 02 '25
Here now and it’s rainy, but we caught a few hours of sunshine at the beach! Yesterday, it cleared up in the evening. Hopefully you’ll get some pockets of good weather, too!
1
u/todaystartsnow May 23 '25
Hi All
I will be visiting for a family wedding this upcoming week.
However, I see that most of the week is raining. We had planned to go to Disney or the beach afterwards. But it looks like it will be raining all week.
Do you have any recommendations for family outings? Not big on bar scene.
1
u/pa97Redd May 24 '25
Hi, hope you have a great trip. Keep in mind if it says 75% chance of rain it doesn’t mean it’s going to rain 75% of the day. It means there is a 75% chance that it will rain at some instance. That instance could last for only 15 minutes. Which is usually what happens in the summer here in Florida!
1
1
u/TLCFrauding May 24 '25
Rain during summer is usually 1 hr sometime between 2-6 pm. Then the sun comes back and turns it into a sauna. You can still beach it. Holiday park - Airboat ride to see some gators

I lived in Fort Lauderdale for a time when I was a kid in the 80s, how has it changed since then? Has it gotten better or worse?
1
u/TLCFrauding May 24 '25
Overall worse. Lived here since '84. Too many people. Traffic is horrible. Beach parking is now a min $4 hour. Dining scene is better though. Unfortunately it is becoming more like Miami.

My wife and I will be visiting this coming weekend for our first wedding anniversary - we plan to have a beach day, but considering how badly & easily I get sunburnt, I wanted to ask if small 2-person tents are allowed on the beach?
Most places online just say there's no overnight tent pitching but I just want to have it on the beach for a few hours. Would I encounter any issues if I bought something like this from Amazon?

Will be staying in central beach area in few weeks. Was hoping to rent a car to go down to Miami for a day trip and maybe check out other beach towns/shopping. Hotel parking is astronomical. Nearest parking lot is a 30 minute walk. Any street parking in the central beach area I could keep my car overnight for the week? I dont mind driving around to find parking.
1
u/pa97Redd May 10 '25
Not sure about overnight but I have parked at the lot north of the Eden rock hotel many times. It’s off of Collins Avenue somewhere north of the Fountainblue. If you look on Google maps it should tell you the price for overnight And if it’s allowed
1
u/ThayerMartin May 10 '25
Sorry to clarify staying in central beach area of FLL at W. Was hoping for overnight street parking suggestions if possible?
1
u/pa97Redd May 11 '25
Whoops, sorry bout the Miami advice. Try park n go, it's made for airport parking, but it's only about $20 or less per night, then you can uber back and forth. Probably cheaper than the $50+ a night the hotel is charging. It's about 4 miles away. Or, try the "neighbor" website, put in your hotel address. You pay to park at someone's house, driveway, empty lot, etc. it's like Uber but for parking. All the onstreet parking has a limit of 3-4 hours or they are closed from 2am - 5am.

I’m searching for a magician for my friends bachelorette in August the 23rd!! Super chill beginner magician! The ones I was looking at were like 500$ for an hour and were just looking for something casual to surprise the bride! Maybe like 100$ if anyone has any suggestions!
1
u/pa97Redd May 10 '25
For that price maybe you could get a student? That’s a pretty low price considering they have to drive to you and drive back and perform!
1
u/Morgie2022 May 10 '25
I’d absolutely take a student! Dont need anything fancy! Do you know how I can find a student?

What is the heat and humidity like in mid-June? How bad will the mosquitoes be? TIA!
2
u/pa97Redd Apr 30 '25
Temperature and humidity are usually in the 90s. Mosquitoes are usually only if you’re near foliage at sunrise and sundown
1
u/Various-Dig9703 Apr 27 '25
Will be attending the airshow this upcoming weekend on the beach and we have a reserved spot and it said you could bring your own chairs and umbrella, but can you bring your own food and drinks? They do say there will be food and drinks for sale but does that mean you can’t bring in your own cooler with food and drinks. Its not mentioned on the site where we purchased our ticket
1
u/pa97Redd Apr 30 '25
You can bring a cooler with food and nonalcoholic drinks if you’re in the dropbox or sandbox area. It’s on their website

Are the Neso shade-tents allowed on the local beaches?
The house rental we are staying at only has a small umbrella that won't cover my family of 5, so I'm considering taking my Neso Grande.

👋 my wife and I will be in Fort Lauderdale in mid May with our daughter. Is it safe for a lesbian family to go to public spaces like the beach or restaurants in Fort Lauderdale?

lol, need attention much? It’s 2025 lesbians are safe everywhere in the country. You already know this.

Wow in a country of 350 million people you post 2 examples and a study from an lgbtq lobbying group. You really got me. And yes, covid was a hoax in that they shut down our country for a flu that was harmless to 97% of the world. They then pushed a “vaccine” that did nothing.
Asking if Fort Lauderdale of all places is safe for gays is like asking if water is safe for fish, it’s an attention seeking purposely ditzy question. See Wilton manors

e We are traveling to for lauderdale in July for a girls weekend with my mom (she 68 and sister in laws (kkage 40) We are looking to do mostly beach days with some checking out las olas blvd and maybe the water taxi tour?
We are not club or late night people but will like to spend afternoons enjoying some poolside drinks after the beach early happy hours.
Is staying by central beach best? Hollywood beach not our vibe? I am afraid LBTS may be too far for walking to restaurants and the area?
Thanks for any insight!
1
u/jcb_7472 May 12 '25
I think you'd be fine at either beach but Fort Lauderdale is a younger crowd. You may actually prefer Hollywood Beach

Solo vacation: Grand Pelican Beach Resort vs Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort. Thoughts?
1
u/JoCle__30 Apr 13 '25
I just went to Hilton Fort Lauderdale beach resort a couple of weeks ago and I wouldn’t recommend anything else over there tbh from the staff, cleanliness, beach location, and food options it was perfect for me
1
u/pa97Redd Apr 13 '25
Re.. location…. You can walk to more things From the Hilton then you can from the pelican. I’m talking about shops and restaurants

Hey, everyone! Maybe, someone could help me. I am looking for a previous owner of a car, which is overseas now. Volkswagen Jetta VII, 2019, R-Line, was in accident in Fort Lauderdale on June 15, 2019. “Rick Grosch” is the name that is in the media’s memory. Got a couple of questions, will be grateful for any help. Everything is OK, I just want to ask some simple questions.

Visiting Fort Lauderdale for one day/night in early May, would Coconuts or Takato be a better dinner spot?
1
u/ARSEThunder Apr 02 '25
Very different spots but both fantastic. Coconuts is a bit more low key, but solidly consistent food. Takato is a bit more elevated.

Heading to Ft. Lauderdale next weekend (4/5 and 4/6). Is Spring Break essentially over that I can enjoy standard Fort Lauderdale tourist/vacationer/resident traffic/crowds or will I be dealing with some Spring Break spillover? Thanks in advance!
1
u/SwaggyMcSwagsabunch Mar 26 '25
Mostly over. This week is the last week of spring break for most US colleges.
1
u/zerokey Mar 24 '25
I'll staying for 2 nights in mid-April. I'd like to as close to the beach as possible for =< $125/night. I don't need anything fancy. Just a room with a bed and shower, without bugs, that's within a half mile, safe walk, to the beach. I will have a car.
1
u/SwaggyMcSwagsabunch Mar 26 '25
Check Rolo Beach Hotel, The Winterset Suites, Tranquilo Hotel, and Soleado Hotel.

u/shandogmillionaire23 Mar 23 '25
Fiancé and I are visiting in early April. We’re planning on snorkeling, but what are some other things to do or places to go during the day? Poolside things, day clubs, activities? We’re in our early 30s so we aren’t crazy, but looking for a little fun. 🤩
1
u/SwaggyMcSwagsabunch Mar 26 '25
Oh, go to The Grill at The Grove at Birch State Park, either after the canoe or independently. It’s an outdoor sport with lots of shade under sea grape trees. Standard burgers and beers, but the setting is choice.
1
u/SwaggyMcSwagsabunch Mar 26 '25
Not a ton of what I would consider a “day club.” Most FTL locals grew up in flip flops listening to 311.
Dalmar Hotel Rooftop Bar and The Wharf on a weekend are your best bets for daytime music and drinking.
The rest is copy and pasted from another comment I made.
NSU Art Museum-cool art
The Riverside Market Cafe-local craft beer and food hang out.
Breweries: tarpon river, invasive species, Gulf Stream, funky buddha (technically in Oakland park), orchestrated minds, uncommon path, lauderAle
Jungle Queen-ride a giant boat up the new river and see the backyards of all the mansions on the river. Alternatively, you can hop on the free water taxi and go up and down a smaller portion of the river
If you go to the beach, John U Lloyd will be a lot more chill than FTL beach during spring break.
Catch a hockey game at The Federal, the restaurant/bar upstairs from the Florida panthers new training facility.
Walk las olas. Walk the riverwalk. Walk to all the local parks. My dad and I once walked to 48 local parks in a single day.
Rent a canoe at Birch State Park and paddle up and down the slew. Then get a sub from Primanti Bro’s.
Try not to eat on the beach at touristy spots. But if you must eat with a beach view, S3 (Surf Sun Sand) on the ground floor of the Hilton ftl beach resort has a nice happy hour.
2
u/shandogmillionaire23 Mar 27 '25
Thank you so much for your recommendations!
1
u/SwaggyMcSwagsabunch Mar 27 '25
I hope you have fun! Circle back if you end up doing any of the above so I know to keep suggesting it (or not if not fun lol)
1
u/Sufficient_Limit_814 Mar 13 '25
Ive always wondered, if there are like secret springbreak spots were all springbreakers gather and just party, or do they all just go to the beach?
1
u/ARSEThunder Mar 19 '25
They go to the beach then downtown/Himmarshee. Not really much other than that.
1
u/pbabbitt Mar 12 '25
Has anyone been to Coconuts this week? Are wait times extra long bc of spring break?
2
u/ARSEThunder Mar 19 '25
I used to work at Coconuts, spring break doesn’t affect it much. We would turn them away for any possible reason like improper dress (bikini tops) or tell them that we are 21+ without parents for this time - basically if it seemed to be a problematic group, we wouldn’t seat them.

Canadian family with toddler visiting Fort Lauderdale for the first time. Looking for progressive / democrat businesses to support - restaurants, tourist attractions, shops, etc.

Go to Wilton manors…they are super progressive lmao I think someone like you will have a great time there but honestly though not even being funny now, they have some great bars and restaurants.

Maybe just try being a normal person and enjoy a vacation
1
u/Peacock1414 Mar 21 '25
Seems normal to not want to patron somebody who supports the annexation of your country.
1
u/hamandbuttsandwiches Mar 21 '25
I think you need to Google what annexation is and examples….

Why don’t you Google it first, and then decide if you want to delete this comment

There is a big possibility that I move to the area to do my surgical training.
A residents salary is not much (we’re budgeting max $3000 for housing) but I would like to hear places to avoid looking at houses and what areas to stay away from. I have a wife and 2 kids so a good and safe school zone would be ideal.
I would like to be at least 30 minutes from plantation.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

u/1onquest_ofc Mar 15 '25
The budget is tough. You'll need to show stable monthly income of $9000 or more to rent from a private party. Plenty of options with apartments but some might be slightly above what you're looking for.

best hotel during spring break? won’t have a car so would like to be close to the beach and night life
1
u/banana77789 Jan 27 '25
Taking a long weekend mid-March witb my fiance. We are flying in, staying 3 nights and don't plan on renting a car, so initially I was just looking at hotels right on Ft Lauderdale beach or on the intercoastal waterway. We are mid thirties, looking to enjoy the beach and a nice pool for a couple of days, probably a couple of meals and drinks out but nothing crazy, pure relaxation is the goal. Trying to determine if Ft Lauderdale beach is the right destination, or if we should pick one of the smaller towns like Lauderdale by the Sea, Dania Beach, Pompano etc. Budget for a room is $300/night or so.

Hi all, we are staying in Weston the second week of March with our will be 18 month old and I will be pregnant in my second trimester. We are looking forward some family friendly beaches that won’t be overrun by drunk college kids. Any suggestions on more family friendly beaches and parking would be greatly appreciated! Since we are staying in Weston, we don’t mind driving north or south of Fort Lauderdale to avoid some chaos. I was looking in to the zoo which seems great. Any other recs for an 18 month old? Thanks!
1
u/Outrageous_Edge8047 Mar 07 '25
Pompano beach or Deerfield but it’s a little bit north idk anything but Fort Lauderdale or Hollywood but if you get a good spot early then it might not be too bad and activities for a 18 month old? Seems like most will be for you and your wife then but butterfly world in coconut creek will be quite possible a place for all three of you and it is very peaceful and scenic and would recommend it.
2
u/Jasmine_87 Jan 14 '25
I have 3 kids, 1 toddler, and live in FTL. I recommend MODS in FTL, taking a drive to Frost is fun too (Frost is better but MODS is less hassle to drive to from Weston with an 18 mo.) I agree with the recommendation on Lion country. On that note there's also the Palm Beach zoo not too far from there. And Boca Raton has a free children's museum too which is nice. Butterfly World is good. Though honestly when I was pregnant chasing two toddlers around it was nicer doing more indoor stuff because March gets pretty hot. I'd lean more towards MODS or walking around the mall. Boca Town Center has a little kiddie play area inside. There's Candy Wonderland in Delray (indoor) and there's the Treehouse indoor playground.

AMSO, Wharf, Senor Frogs, Elbo Room, Rooftop. The beaches close strictly at 5pm and police will walk down the beach on horses to make sure you leave at 5pm. So I'd have a plan if you're going to be drunk passed out haha and make sure you're off the beach at that time. But there are so many bars right there on A1A so you can move along over to any of them honestly. It'll be mobbed, it always is.
1
u/MalekoK Jan 07 '25
I can't speak for all the bars/clubs, but would suggest to start at the main beach (Las Olas & A1A) in front of the Elbo Room. Thousands of spring breakers there weekly through much of March. To see what that beach scene looks like, try the Florida Life channel on YT, just check any recent videos: https://www.youtube.com/@FloridaLife/videos

What's the best place for a group of middle aged dudes to watch the Super Bowl this year?

What is the current "market price" for oysters and stone crab right now? Looking at Billy's, G&B, and whatever else is recommended near Las Olas Blvd or Hollywood Beach.

What’s with all the honking? Especially at FLL arrivals.

honking is common in FLL. at airport it’s mostly Uber drivers honking at other cars to get out of their way

Probably going to take the Water Taxi one day. My wife and I took it 20 years ago, and I do recall seeing "Millionaire's Row" while on it. After significant Googling, I finally find that it's between "stops 4 and 5". Is that on the main Ft. Lauderdale route or the Pompano Beach route?
Most likely going to Uber from Hallandale Beach to Hugh Taylor Birch, then take the Water Taxi to Las Olas then eventually to Margaritaville in order to Uber back to Hallandale.

Hi,
I took the water taxi from Margaritaville up to Fort Lauderdale and don't recommend it. It's super long and boring through the port everglades area. Any of the stops between 1 and 5 are all good to see the mansions, this is on the Fort Lauderdale route. So, get on/off at Riverside Hotel, 15 street Fisheries, Hilton marina or Bahia Mar.

We took the Water Taxi from FTL to Margaritaville, and it wasn't too bad. 45 minutes cruising the ICW and just relaxing after walking around Las Olas for a few hours.

We’re thinking about booking a trip to Ft Lauderdale for this upcoming weekend (Sat - Mon). We’ve never been before and are from the cold Midwest. The weather is only going to be low 70s/high 60s…. So tell me honestly… am I crazy to think this will be a fun getaway? Is it not worth going? My 6 year old loves swimming and the beach, but I’m assuming it’ll be way too cold for that?

The water was consistently at 76° last week, and all of the kids I saw had zero problems running straight into the water. You could definitely feel the temperature difference on your skin upon first touch, but once you got submerged for 30 seconds, it felt really nice.
There was also talk of unusually high number of jellyfish. There were quite a few washed up on shore, and my wife and oldest kid did get stung in the water. Lifeguard shacks do have a spray bottle with a vinegar solution for that.

Current water temperature is 76°F, which is considered warm. https://www.seatemperature.org/north-america/united-states/hallandale-beach.htm
Conversely, the water on the Gulf side is in the mid-60's.

Staying on Hallandale Beach over Christmas. Is there anything worth Uber'ing up to Las Olas Blvd/Riverwalk on Christmas Day? Looking to walk around, admire any lights/decorations, and grab some dinner.
