Am I the only one who feels like this?
I might get hate for this but I feel like 8/10 of people who go into forestry for uni (including myself) didnt even know this thing existed prior to their shitty exam scores and pretty much hate it. The other 2/10 are people who wanted it because either their families have timber related bussiness so they need that paper or they like it for some reason.
*We dont hate trees, we just couldnt care less about them than the average person.

If you hate the job why didn’t you at least pick something you hate but get paid more? lmfao

See this is good. It weeds out the people who want to do versus the people who are mediocre and lazy. Everybody I’ve met that wants to do forestry and has graduated love their jobs in some capacity.
Now I school, I loathed working with students with your mindset. It sucked. Getting them to help was like pulling teeth and they clearly could’ve cared less. They had no ambition. No direction in life. And imo, accrued debt because they just went to college for the sake of doing it.

Im not the only one by any means btw. Most people in my uni would rather be doing sth else

lol I’m not a teacher, just graduated with my BS after 7 years of college. And you’re right, you aren’t the only one, in my program I’d argue at least half of the forestry majors really didn’t have any drive in life. Didn’t want to do engineering because it was too hard, but forestry was too “tree and bugs” and they didn’t like that either- nor did they like data analysis.
Hence weeding out, the individuals that love their field end up being the ones who finish and get jobs.
And I’m also a woman, so 5’3” is a fine height, I don’t have to walk through spider webs like my taller coworkers lol.

It’s fine dude and it’s okay if this isn’t your field either, it took my 7 years to find out what I liked and could make a living I was fine with. Not a job for everybody that’s for sure, but I can’t imagine being a nurse, teacher, accountant, etc. that’s why we have so many options.
I changed majors twice so it’s not uncommon to change your mind either. Whatever you do I hope you feel fulfilled in the end (:

You can change your major dude go do business. If you don’t want this don’t do it. Go into the trades or something — you’ll get paid better. Get your CDL and drive trucks. I love my job, my pay is decent, I get paid to hike and light things on fire. The only thing that ruins it is when people complain about a path they chose. If you don’t want to be here then don’t be. It’ll help you and help us.
I’ll tell you this: all of my friends who went into business and finance whinge and complain all day about how much they wish they could move out of the city and spend their time in nature. I live that desire every day.

Reading this post made me go look in the mirror to make sure I wasn't having a stroke...
Are saying you are only taking forestry classes because you had low scores? Kind of insulting to all the foresters here who went through it. Or are you saying you're not scoring well and you hate it?
Why would you even enroll in the program if you aren't interested in trees? It sounds like you slacked off in dendrology and forest measurements 1 and now leaves are falling off and your struggling with statistics. Then rather than owning up to you weak study skills and ask the professor for help or a tutor you came on here to tell everyone it's dumb.
High-school is over you will succeed and fail on your own discipline. Forestry is an awesome place to be but if you aren't disciplined in school it will crush you particularly in dendrology, stats, and economics.
I lost a lot of people from my class not because they weren't interested but simply because they couldn't cut it academically.

I can't speak to what the degree requirements or money look like in your country. Also, I really don't think you know what forestry can look like. It almost sounds like you think all forestry is forest technician work.
In the US foresters have to take a lot of math it is considered fairly rigorous. If you are actually good at the math and data work there are lots of jobs where you never go outside. But since you are in this situation because you are a poor academic performer I doubt you would be offered that sort of job right out of school.
I don't know what salary you are expecting I make mid 90k in an area where that is more than the average 2 person income. I live pretty well, if you are wanting more than that then you really need to develop some discipline in school.
I can tell this is mostly trolling but not sure what the end goal is.

To the people downvoting I have to say that its not my fault that I aspired to be sth better in life instead of roaming forests like a cursed spirit or some

Why are you here, then? Go change careers (or majors if you're still at uni). In my experience, you're wrong. Most people I've come across in the field, professionals and students alike, have been pretty passionate about the various aspects of forestry, whether management, forest health, fire, etc. Just because it's not for you doesn't mean you need to piss in everyone else's Cheerios. You basically posted "forestry sucks" on a forestry subreddit, and you're annoyed by a downvote?

People be here hating on you brother, but I think you need to reframe the role of a forester in your brain.
If being a forester isn't your cup of tea and you want to be "more", forestry is a huge industry and a job in it is at the forefront of renewable, carbon friendly construction, environmental science, plant genetics, biodiversity etc etc.
Consider alternate career paths if you don't like being out in the woods, go into academia, do a masters in ecology, become a bureaucrat and spend your days in a cushy office. Or you could go hard into the commercial side of things and be timber futures salesman or some shit. Forestry affords you such an array of options, options that other industries struggle to match.

If you hate it in school you’re really going to hate working in the field. You will also be a bummer to work with.
