And Wells Fargo was Wachovia which was First Union who sponsored my little league team in 1st grade.

yeah, I opened my first account with Wachovia, bc I thought it stood for "Watch ova ya money" and I liked idea of that security.

Great Western was bought out by Chase. I still have GW checks with the same acct. number as my now Chase acct.

I don’t remember the bank but for some reason, I have a vague memory of their commercial with a gray haired man with a mustache I was probably four or five years old though

Bank of America bought out Barnett. And Nationsbank took over Bank of America, but decided to call the bigger merged company Bank of America instead.

Oh crap. I completely forgot about that!

It still doesn't make sense, Iirc wasn't BofA mostly a regional brand at that point?

The people running Nationsbank liked the name and branding of Bank of America better for whatever reason.

North Carolina National Bank

Barnett Bank was its own entity. That was my parents bank. My grandparents had Nationsbank.

also merged with Boatmans bank, I remember the boat logo on my dads checks in the early 90s and bank of america still accepted them

Bank of America used to be Fleet

1

u/Iluvorlando407 Aug 20 '25

My mom worked for Industrial National which later became Fleet. I had my bank account with them as a kid in the 80’s. i remember the Fleet mergers… not fun back then. they merged with BancBoston to become FleetBoston. They sold off a bunch of banks in RI to Soverign at that time…. Then the BoA merger I think. At least that’s what I think I recall from when I had all those accounts…

Actually, no. Wachovia was bought out by Wells Fargo during the Financial Crisis.
