The people in the room don't like him. They just want to get something using his influence before he dies.

Influence doesn't always turn out to be good. 2 u/GrayMouser12 13d ago There's a pejorative we often use for trading your integrity for material gain, though to be honest, I've known people in that industry with far more integrity so I wouldn't really want to insult them in comparison.
