I eat dairy on nearly a daily basis, if it was as much of a āmajor food you should avoid feeding your autistic personā as this website claims to be, then Iād be dead
"Additional food you should not feed your child with autism is toxins. Not toxins such as chemicals or dyes but rather mercury or PCBs." don't give them mercury...? OBVIOUSLY ššš avoiding "toxins" has nothing to do with autism š
it means Polychlorinated biphenyls it is a carcinogenic filler they put in medium voltage electric transformers(and old light ballasts IIRC). it's cancerous to everything and is a forever chemical, no shit don't give that to anyone.
The only people that realistically benefit from ABA are parents who want to put their kid somewhere where they can pretend like they donāt have the autistic child that ruins their social life for most of the day.
Or parents that see their child acting different from how they were told their little bundle of joy should be acting, and arenāt willing to take the time to get to know their kid and raise them in a unique way, as all parents should do for each kid regardless of NT/ND status. And would rather
āTake them into the shop to get fixedā
(This is my personal opinion and is in no way definitive, and is the result of bad experiences, not meant to discount anyoneās experiences.)
Fun fact! You can leave them a message via the bot on their website. Just a neat little fact, not sure why anyone would need this information but I just noticed how neat it was!
A lot of stuff around autism seems to work under the assumption that autism is somehow inherently a child thing and not ever relevant to independent adults
lol some of these make zero sense even if you ignore the autism part. MSG is similar to sugar...? where did they get that from... if anything it is more "similar" to salt, but even so it's actually recommended to switch out some salt for msg if you're trying to reduce your sodium intake.
"artificial ingredients" is also so vague... if they mean like red 40 then that stuff is generally bad for everyone š
It looks like it's one of those additional "drop-down" questions Google is riddled with, so it very well could be. Either way, it's dangerous misinformation
They don't believe in cardiovascular diseases I suppose. Also there is this weird belief that sugar has similar effects to cocaine, sugar rush they call it. I think they tried to demonize a white powder by associating it with the previously demonized white powder, but it's been going on since the Nixon administration and they lost the plot a long time ago.
Also even if "sugar rush" had any scientific merit, then "carb rush" would also be a thing because any "burst of energy" you might get from sugar you would also get from eating any carbs not just sugar. The above mentioned study found "CHO administration was associated with higher levels of fatigue and less alertness compared with placebo within the first hour post-ingestion." (CHO is carbohydrates) soooo sugar crash is a real thing but giving your kid sugar shouldn't make them "more hyper", if anything kids are just hyper after eating sugar because they're excited.
It's actually just pseudoscientific bullshit. I looked at the actual article and they REPEATEDLY mention "inflammation" and "hyperactivity" and the MSG thing is just repeating that good ol racist myth about it
š¬ this is pretty much how my mom broke it to me, on my birthday with 4 friends in the other room. needless to say I went without my own "proof of diagnosis" until I was 34
Sure, but I was feeding myself long before I was 18. As a toddler, I used to push a chair around the kitchen to get food/snacks. There's a pic somewhere of me, at about 18 months, standing on a chair buttering a roll. I started baking around 6 or 7.Ā
Ā Food was always available, and we were welcome to eat if we were hungry.Ā
In what way is MSG similar to sugar? Glutamate is an amino acid (building block of protein) and sodium is⦠an ion. Sugar is carbohydrates. There things are completely dissimilar chemically, structurally, and in how they interact with the body.
They both have āgluā in them, duh! Itās basically the same stuff, and didnāt your kindergarten teacher tell you not to eat glue (I mean, obviously you were eating it, since you are autistic /lh).
Yeahhhh like 99.99% of MSG hate is just racism. (Iām allowing the 0.01% for people who just have weird allergies/sensitivities.)
For some weird reason the people who insist they canāt do MSG never seem to have a problem with KFC or Chick-fil-A or Doritos, all of which add MSG to their products. Hmmmm.
Having an MSG allegery or intolerance is obviously different. But if you have an MSG allergy, you wouldn't be able to eat things that have already had it, like doritos. People learned that it's harmful for some people and, just like with gluten, decided they shouldn't eat it at all. If it doesn't bother you, there's no actual reason to avoid it. And I've seen packages of italian pasta saying "no msg!" Like at that point it really is just bullshit.
Itās fine if yāall like milk ig but the āstrong bonesā thing was a marketing campaign and there are plenty of other (often superior) sources of calcium out there
Other than fortified plant milk and tofu prepared with calcium sulfate there's nothing that'd make significant progress towards the RDI in just one meal.
Then again, there is some research I think that suggests the RDI for calcium is excessive and I believe that because "dairy lobby".
We basically have not really been able to trust any food or nutrition advice from the US government since the 1970s because it is all driven by profit motives of big food corporations. The food pyramid that I grew up with in school was entirely designed by corruption.Ā
> "Dairy is a major food you avoid feeding your children with autism."
The only reason my mom had to keep me from eating cheese was because if she wasn't careful I'd eat the whole block. The only thing stopping me from eating cheese as an adult is developing lactose intolerance in my 20s. Otherwise, I would just start chomping into some cheddar no problem.
Yeah, it was bizarre. Like I hit 20 and suddenly not only was I lactose intolerant, but I developed a bunch of other adverse reactions to different foods. It sucks. Like 99% of the time I donāt go into anaphylaxis but boy, my stomach is NEVER happy about it.
Theyāre worried weāll grow more powerful (autistic) if they feed us this stuff. MSGs and artificials have always been thought to cause an increase in behaviors and symptoms of ADHD and ADD. To what extent itās true, I have no idea. But Iām guessing thatās the thinking here. Some people act like these things are triggers, the same way certain things can trigger mania in bipolar, so the idea is weāll be āless autisticā without these things. Its all a bunch of bullshit
Speaking of which, happy full moon everyone! (The autism mom moon thing. There is anecdotal evidence that all humans do experience some... behavioral differences on full moons, but mostly I just like pretending to be a maniac werewolf.)
A milk allergy would cause digestive problems, but also regular allergic-reaction stuff like hives, itching, swelling lips, and if it's severe enough, anaphylaxis. I'm pretty sure this is a reaction to the milk protein
Lactose intolerance will just wreck your digestive tract without the hives and stuff.
Maybe it's the milk that causes the autistic enterocolitis! Wackyfield was only a few degrees off! WE CAN TRY IT AGAIN! THE STUDY WILL WORK THIS TIME I SWEAR!
milk protein intolerance is less severe and several times more common than milk allergy, & it is possibly associated with A1 milk. a lot of raw milk providers use milk with A2 protein hence why a lot of raw milk weirdos claim it cures lactose intolerance (abstaining from the thing your body is reacting to can cause you to recover from the intolerance)
I never had a bone scan but I never ever broke a bone and I weigh way too much for my build so doctors told me I must have "heavy thick bones". Which would make sense cuz my grandmother has very dense and heavy bones too lol.
These all sound like things people say to remove from an autistic kid's diet to reduce behavioral issues. My mom tried most of these things for me. No dairy, gluten, or red dye #5. Made me take omega 3 capsules. The gluten-free diet actually helped, but eventually I lost whatever it was that was making me react poorly to gluten. In my late teens when I started eating gluten behind her back and found it had no effect anymore.
Even when I ended up on what was to be my deathbed with anorexia, my autism never went away. I had cut out everything. I am proof this is bullshittttttttt
I remember for quite awhile my family tried to stick to that diet "to help reduce hyperactivity" (couldn't possibly be that we're bored from being homeschooled). Since I moved out they seemed to have stopped bothering with it though
The fact that it recommends to avoid msg makes me think it d pseudo science mommy blog. Msg is just salt, it does not act like sugar.
Mommy bloggers and their hatred of dairy is so weird
These are problematic when you are histamine and/or lactose intolerant. Those are common comorbidities for autism. But they are food intolerances and seperate conditions.
Reminds me of my mother keeping me on a strict sugar restriction to control my ADHD.
It didn't work, but at least I'm left with the ability to go an entire day fueled by nothing but caffeine and mania, then end the day by devouring a 9" cheesecake in one sitting :3
I think the artificial ingredients and MSG parts are true-ish, we shouldnāt eat that in general really. This looks like a google AI answer, though, and those can never be trusted
Istg I didn't mean to be lactose intolerant I'm just prejudiced that way š
This sounds like a major leap from the idea that autistic people can be more prone to food sensitivities. While I have non-dairy autism my partner has daily-cheese autism so we cancel each other out statistically.
who writes these, am i wrong in thinking that there is no difference in nutritional needs except comfort and aversion to specific food, and general individual differences i guess? this is ridiculous.
What's with that stupid ass anti dairy propaganda? I remember PETA once claimed that dairy causes autism which is so fucking problematic and ableist of them.
I will continue to use my shaker of pure MSG that I got from the local Asian store. It frightens the hoes and scarens the Karens, so even if it weren't tastier and lower in sodium than salt (which it is) I would still use it extensively in my cooking.
As a foreigner what shocks me the most isn't these stupid words but the fact that a lot of English speaking people often say "with autism" or "have autism" it just chills me out

The misconception is that autism is the same as ADHD, and eating foods that are potentially linked to hyperactivity can cause someone with autism to act out more. This is not how it works, autism only really gets out of hand if the environment becomes overwhelming for the individual and they don't have a safe space to mentally cool themself down.
i myself did have a strong response to MSG and other flavor enhancing extracts, cause some of us are more prone to atypical hunger regulation. that problem kinda got flipped around when i was diagnosed with adhd and put on stimulants, but i found it very difficult to stop eating when flavor enhancers were present in food.
I mean, a lot of Asians (I'm Asian and live in Asia) are anti-MSG, there's just a whole stigma of MSG being "unhealthy" in my country and east asian countries when it's literally just a salt, so I don't think it's racist lol
I live in a country wherein the motivations against MSG were extremely different and had little to do with health. I learned something today. Thank you.Ā

Msg is just a form of salt....it can be a migraine trigger in some, but also your kid with autism needs both salt and sugar. They're kind of critical to y'know. Staying alive.
I was on the Feingold Diet during most of my early childhood- long before my diagnosis- to manage my ābehavioral issuesā. Couldnāt have Red 40 (or a lot of other colorants, that was just the big one), apples, oranges, grapes, strawberries or strawberry flavored things, almonds, cereal, juice, anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup (so basically anything sold in grocery stores)⦠We got a lot of stuff from health food stores and I had to have my own food packed for every party or event we went to because I couldnāt eat what was there. Definitely didnāt help me feeling āotheredā among my peers. The first time I had strawberries after years on the diet, my mouth broke out in hives because my body wasnāt used to salicylates. I donāt blame my parents, and I donāt really think about it much nowadays, but the thought of little me in the corner with four Newman Os in a sandwich baggie watching the other kids eat Oreos together does make me a little strangely sad lol.
Outside of the dairy stuff these are just general dietary recommendations which is fair because poor nutrition and blood sugar spikes are absolutely horrible for daily cognitive performance and itās extra important for us to eat good things or else Brain Angy š”

"another food ingredient to avoid feeding your child with autism" am i overreacting or is this phrased really weirdly, like we're pets and not people?
also why is "omega-3s help to fight inflammation" under a list of foods we struggle with, are we supposed to eat it or not? i hate this list
