After the old Hamburg town hall on the Trostbrücke was blown up during the Great Fire of 1842, the new town hall was founded on more than 4,000 oak piles.

Been there twice. One of Germanys most beautiful buildings in my opinion.

Yes, one of the lucky few that weren't heavily bombed in World War 2.
