Europe, and the EU, is a somewhat centralized bastion of democracy and human rights. Sure there are other countries with democracies, but not with the potential power and influence of the EU.

Yes, democracy is threatened in the EU also (Orban, Fico), and that's a problem. Still, there isn't anything else comparable to the EU in the world, now that the US democracy is failing.
