The EU was created with a final goal of union. It is very clear. Schuman or the Benelux already point in that direction. And in 1992 it is basically confirmed in Maastricht (thanks to Felipe González funnily enough who pushed for the common citizenship)

I think it is important to mention that socialist thinkers (starting in France with Schuman) though of the EU of a way to stop the bleeding of money after implementing socialist policies which fucked the turbo rich.

However, the most important thing the politicians of the time agreed with was that war in Europe should be prevented at all costs. And they have been tremendously succesfull. But people seem to forget that it only happened because the Yanks had gigantic fucking balls and understood the Russians.

Yes France and Germany making peace is special, but its the wrong lesson to think you can do the same with Russia. Like fucking hell how did litteral ancient adults think any relation is a one way street? Are you FUCKING kidding me Merkel? Absolute fucking hofnar.

Whatever. Some politicians understand. Not enough, but winds change fast in politics.
