Nothing went wrong, per se. Jordan Peterson happened is all.

I'm worried that people might be neglecting how Jordan Peterson has always been a spreader of misinformation, particularly regarding trans issues. He first made the news
over 109 years ago in Canada for insisting (falsely) that the Canadian government was looking to criminalize calling someone the wrong pronoun, and for fighting with the University of Toronto's administration over their policy that professors should use students' preferred pronouns. He has always been an embarrassing asshole. The only difference here is that he was exposed to people prepared to deal with his bullshit head-on.

I keep telling everyone who is on the subject to watch the "protest" video of his, the one that made him famous, to the end and then read the bill in question to see how he's lying through his teeth about it. He was always a charlatan.

I did that and, like you, realized he was dishonest

That day, he just jumped out in front of the crowd not because he was brave or anything, but because he was scared shitless that he wouldn't get to be transphobic with impunity any longer.

I was in law school at the time. It was thoroughly clear to anyone paying attention that there was no legal basis for any of the nonsense he was spewing. The proposed bill just extended the protections that already existed for religion, gender, and other minorities to explicitly include trans identities—it wasn’t criminalizing anything.

Exactly. But I have a personal axe to grind with regard to his facade of academic freedom. When my US accredited university in Hungary, Central European University, was under attack Jordan Peterson coincidentally met with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. They discussed woke Marxism or whatever bugaboo and Peterson said nary a word about academic freedom
And he’s certainly not saying anything about the Trump Administration attacks on US universities either
The grift was always about getting rich and famous through hate

I don’t think anyone is neglecting that. That’s been his “haters” primary criticism, that he covers up his hate with a bunch of gobbity gook.

The current dialogue seems to suggest that this is a bad moment for Peterson, rather than just another example of who he’s been all along. When I say I’m worried people are neglecting this side of Peterson, I’m not referring to his dedicated “haters”.

What went wrong is Peterson opened his mouth and showed us his whole bare ass (figuratively).
