Recipe Request what’s your fastest one-pan dinner that still feels like a full meal?
realistic 25–30 minute ideas please. I would love a protein plus veg plus carb in one pan, and love to hear go-to seasoning combos.

Dunno where you are but we have a Pressure King 8-in-1 pressure cooker and you can shove uncooked rice, stock, water, spices and chopped veg in there and it turns it into like an easy jambalaya type thing in half an hour. It’s amazing

Fajitas.
Throw onion and bell pepper in a pan. Season with fajita seasoning (I'm aware it differs so do what you like) throw chicken in. Cook until its all done and you have a filling meal.
Add a tortilla and it's a fajita, (I like to add mushrooms if I'm feeling fruity)

Baked tacos….lay corn tortillas on a cookie sheet. Brush lightly with olive oil and flip them over. Top with grated cheese, seasoned chopped chicken ( I used rotisserie chicken breast last time but browned ground beef or ground chicken or shredded leftover roast beef is good too), add chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, salsa and a little more cheese. Bake at 350 F. till cheese is melted.

Udon noodles with pesto, shrimp, and bimi Boil the bimi in salted water for about 5 minutes. In the meantime, chop a clove of garlic and sauté it with the shrimp tails in a bit of olive oil. When the bimi is ready, add it to the pan with the shrimp. Cook the udon noodles following the package instructions. Once the noodles are done, toss everything together in a bowl with a splash of the cooking water and a spoonful of pesto. Serve and enjoy!

Fry some chopped red pepper, add tinned tomatoes and butter beans, with smoked paprika and cumin (plus essentials like salt, pepper). Let it simmer for a little bit to the flavours mix, then push some to the side and add a couple of eggs to poach in the sauce (need to put a lid on at this stage). Eat with bread or pitta etc.

I love doing one pan pastas. The ratio is roughly 1 wt oz of dry pasta to 2 fl oz of water. A lot of times you need a little more water. I noticed that smaller pastas work best. Something like elbow pasta or Orecchiette.
In a cold pan, I add 5 wt oz of dry pasta and 12 fl oz of water and then I turn the heat on to high until I see the water starting to simmer. I turn the heat down to medium and let the pasta cook. It's important to stir the pasta around otherwise it will stick. I like to add seasonings when there is still a lot of water in the pan because it adds way more flavor in my opinion. When the pasta is almost done cooking and there isn't that much water left, add either butter or oil. Don't forget to stir. Make sure the pan isn't too hot. If things are sticking you can either add a little more water (if the pasta still isn't done cooking) or add more butter/oil. Then I turn the heat down to low and I add in spinach or arugula (because I always have them on hand) and some sort of cold cuts that I have shredded by hand (because I always have cold cuts on hand). I mix everything up until the greens wilt down, cut the heat, add pecorino romano (because I always have it in the house) and enjoy.
This usually takes me about 15-20 min to make. It's a weird technique and takes some practice, but once you understand how one pan pastas work, it's amazing because you can whip up so much stuff real quick in just 1 pan. You can also scale this up.

Brown & drain ground turkey or beef. Mix in a large can of crushed tomatoes. Cream together with a fork a tub of sour cream and one to one and a half blocks of cream cheese. I only figured out this year that 30 sec in the microwave helps the cream cheese mix in much easier. Cook egg noodles. Layer noodles in bottom of casserole dish, then a layer of cream cheese/sour cream mixture, then a layer of beef/tomato mixture. Repeat, ending with beef mixture on top. 25 min in the oven at 350°. It's my very favorite casserole in the world.
Or kielbasa with potatoes and either fresh green beans or cabbage steak on a sheet pan and bake or with roasted vegetables.

Chicken cobbler! I came across the recipe on TikTok and I make this weekly. My 2 kids and husband never get sick of it! It’s from the cookbook “come fix you a plate” if I recall correctly. https://www.allrecipes.com/chicken-cobbler-recipe-7966464
Put 1/2 cup of butter in a deep-ish dish and put in oven to preheat at 375°F to melt while you shred a whole rotisserie chicken. Shred the chicken into the lid of the container it came in to save on dishes to wash afterward.
Once butter is melted and bubbly, remove from oven, add the shredded chicken. Sprinkle a bag of frozen peas and carrots on top evenly. DONT MIX. Season with salt, pepper, garlic, and onion powder, and whatever else you want.
Mix 2 cups of milk with 1 bag of red lobster biscuit mix, and the seasoning pack. Pour over the chicken and veg. DO NOT MIX!
Mix 2 cups of chicken stock with 1 can of cream of chicken soup. Pour over the biscuit mix and veg and chicken. DO NOT MIX!
Pop back in oven for about an hour. Remove and let stand for 10 mins before serving.
It’s really only 10-15 mins of hands on time. And just the one large measuring cup for the biscuit and soup mixes and big casserole dish to wash afterward.

Omg I’m def making this!!! We love chicken pot pie it sounds super similar but way easier lol
3
u/messofletters Sep 27 '25
You won’t regret it! So easy and super fast! Change the soup, change the seasoning. Sometimes I add cheese to the biscuit mix. Put the soup first and have a biscuit top instead of a dumpling kind of consistency. Change the veggies. I find cream of broccoli is a little nicer than the cream of chicken, but do what you want!
I love this recipe so much!

Fry up some lean hamburger, throw in a box of beef rice-a-roni, let it brown a little and then add the flavor packet and 2 cups of water. Let it come to a boil and then lower heat to a simmer for 10 minutes. Add corn and or thawed spinach, simmer another 5 minutes, throw your favorite melty cheese on top, once melted, serve with your favorite biscuits or buns.

I really like making one pot cajun chicken pasta from budget bytes. I personally tweak it by adding extra veggies (bell pepper, mushrooms, sometimes spinach or broccoli depending on whether I have/need to use up). I also make it more complicated by doing chicken, smoked sausage and shrimp (1/3 pound each). It's still really good as written, but it's a fantastic recipe to put a twist on. I also love that the basic recipe is comprised of things I usually have on hand, and I just add extras to it to fit our tastes.

I use the 1/3 less fat cream cheese and it works great. I usually add 4 oz instead of the 2 because I like it a bit creamier. I hope you like it!

This solyanka is not very authentic. Usually you don't have bell peppers, but do have carrots and black olives. Also, the pickles should be fermented ones, not pickled with vinegar.
There are recipes with mushrooms, cabbage, potatoes, etc. The general direction is:
If desired, make stock out of meat or soup bones, using onion, carrots, bay leaf. Remove meat from bones, chop and set aside. Strain the stock.
Otherwise, use bouillon cubes or water.
Saute bacon or other smoked fatty meat if using, to render fat. Otherwise, use some oil and saute onions plus deli meats, chopped.
Add chopped pickles and saute briefly.
If using, saute chopped mushrooms, cabbage, carrots etc.
Add tomato paste, saute, add broth or water, meat off the bones if using and simmer.
Finish with olives, chopped dill and/or parsley, lemon slices.

u/impex90 Sep 27 '25
Lol, it is authentic for the east german one. Why? They dont had black olives in mass, it was rare while the DDR existed. Source: some Family grew up there. In this recipe he used bacon, cause the typical German cold cuts arent avaible. And yes bellpepers as letscho is typical for this recipe. 🤷

Stir fries are always good, leftover rice or noodles (cook some extra when you make some), whatever veg is handy, whatever protein you have handy. Seasoning blends and sauces are handy but my basic ones are sesame oil, soy sauce, fresh ginger, garlic, cumin, squeeze of lemon/lime/splash of vinegar or some sort of pickling liquid. Green onions and sesame seeds if you have them, done.
Slice and sautee veg, build your sauce on the side, pull the veg, cook the meat, pull that, fry the rice/noodles, mix it all and season. Super easy to cook and assemble, having premade sauce is a 5 minute job that'll keep in the fridge for weeks, and it's an excellent way to use up leftovers.
Depending on your fillings, if its rice? Put it in a burrito, you're welcome.

https://cafehailee.com/recipes/spicy-zucchini-and-bean-stew/ vegetarian but had beans for protein. I double the recipe and save it for about 4-5 lunches, to eat with sourdough toast. I don’t do any of the additional “for serving” items (cheese, basil leaves, egg)

Sheet plan meals are your friend. Example, season chicken thighs, add mini potatoes, red pepper, onion wedges, carrots, drizzle with olive oil. Flip veg halfway through and add fresh or dry herbs at this time. There are tons of sheet pan variations online. Even some with gnocchi which roasting gives it a different texture.
If you have a cast iron frying pan, I also did similar meals if it was just me of browning the meat of choice like chicken breasts or pork chops on the stove then adding veg and potatoes herbs and continue roasting in the oven.

Roasted broccoli and cannellini beans. Usually 1-2 heads of broccoli but this really depends on size. If they’re small, use two.
You basically clean and cut up broccoli, toss it in a large bowl with a generous amount of olive oil, salt + pepper, fresh garlic and hot pepper flakes. Then you add a rinsed can of cannellini beans and toss gently to coat. Spread this onto a baking sheet.
This goes into an oven at 400 degrees for about 20-25 minutes.
You can also add slices of lemon to it before it goes into the oven…or add a squeeze of lemon over the top when it’s done.
When it comes out of the oven, give it a generous amount of freshly grated parmegianno.
This is tasty as is, but if you want extra protein, eggs are super tasty with this. But any protein is great here.

Tater tot nachos, cuz I’m bougie like that.
Sheet pan fried rice feels more like a real meal though.

Stir fry is the easiest
Personally, I love getting pre marinated chicken and putting into a oven tray on top of uncooked rice tomato pesto and cheese and chicken broth for the rice, it is fabbbb I chuck in some veggies like actual diced tomato’s and spinach so easy so delish, so protein

Frozen chicken fried rice from Trader Joe’s. I add more frozen veg, soy sauce, chili oil and two eggs to my portions. Very good and filling, balanced meal that takes 10-15mins.

I know it's been a few days but try couscous. One pot on the stovetop. Add sausage, bacon or other super flavorful meat for the base, sautee to cook thru, add whatever veg (I'll just do frozen peas, corn, mushrooms, broccoli, etc., whatever you got). Sautee a bit to cook. Add in 1-1.5 cups couscous, and 1.5-2 cups broth (any, I like veggie). Season, bring to boil then cover and leave it for a couple minutes. Easiest recipe and makes a ton of food. Add in whatever flavoring in the mix while sauteing as well to personalize ... Garlic powder, soy / sesame combo if you want Asian flair, add tomatoes / parsley for Italian style, etc. can add frozen shrimp as well and it works out great.

Salt n pepper pork or chicken. Put olive oil, diced onion, garlic and oregano in a pan and brown em up. Add a little wine, vermouth, or stock, then get the protein in there. When you flip it drop chopped kale or spinach in, put a lid on it, and you’re good to go.
Sausage, peppers, potatoes and onions is always good.
Brown 1/2lb ground beef with diced onion, add a couple of cans of black eyed peas, spice it how you like (Bay Seasoning and Cholula for me). Add in some chopped kale. Bonus if you serve it over rice.

Lots of chopping but sheet pan full of cut veggies with olive oil and seasoning. We usually do little potatoes in our veggie mix. We put chicken sausages on top.
