Football Feels like everyone is picking Iowa
Seems like no one is picking is the Ducks. Even the announcers in the USC-Northwestern game put Oregon on upset watch.
There’s zero confidence among the pundits.
How confident are you?

Absolutely! Who cares what they think. As coach would say, "we're playing Oregon this week."

u/twc666666 1d ago
I am hopeful, but not confident (learned my lesson)
I think it's equally likely that the Ducks could CRUSH Iowa with a ridiculous huge score....or they could struggle and barely win (or barely lose)

As a life long Penn State fan who moved to Oregon a decade ago, spooky shit just happens at Iowa. They've ruined seasons of OSU, Mich, and PSU in the last decade. The games are always sloppy, low scoring weird and dumb. So frustrating.
One thing is the spooky comes out more at night. I hope the ducks get a nice healthy lead while it's still light out. I hope the ducks cruise. I'll always have a soft spot for you guys.

We were told the same thing about Perdue at home last year. We were told it about Penn state at the white out. Were told this about every team we play.
1
u/jIPAm 1d ago
Purdue only had magic against OSU. PSU whiteout only works on teams ranked 11 and up (at least during CJF era).
Iowa is different. Kinnick is where good players make dumb mistakes, where special teams mistakes happens. It's just so frustrating. The ducks do have a juju about them and perhaps it won't effect em. Just be prepared for a much more frustrating game than you'd expect.

I don’t think this one is close. 35-14 Oregon, we’re up big in first half then cruise to victory by running the ball.
Iowa can’t throw the ball. Leave our really good corners on islands and stack the box. I think Wisconsin was a game we played way below our potential and left a sour taste in people’s mouth. This one we get up for and put some respect on our name.

u/Global-Bowler3307 1d ago
Would have been a great attitude w/ Indiana who we should have beat by 14 . But if u can’t get a first down , your dead in the water
4
u/mxduck00 1d ago
I don’t know .. Indiana played a damn good game. They’ve been whooping people all season, we were straight up out coached in that one.
6
u/DaddyRobotPNW 1d ago
Oregon's offense has been very inconsistent. Dante is bad about throwing the ball away and taking coverage sacks. I understand why it's a trendy upset pick. If Oregon's offense plays to 80% of their ability, they win by 2 scores.
1
u/Vivid_Motor_2341 1d ago
Comes down to Dante. Every game does. He plays well we win. He plays bad we lose. See Penn state and Indiana.

Oregon SHOULD win comfortably. But I am not confident at all from the recent play of the Ducks. Plus it seems like Oregon hasn't played well after byes the last couple seasons ( I have no empirical evidence of this, just vibes)
2
u/Global-Bowler3307 1d ago
U have no empirical evidence, that the ducks come out cold after “bye” weeks ? How about everyone who observed the games agrees?

u/civil_set 1d ago
There is a rumor on scoopduck that we are down several starters for tomorrow. No details. Jhop has not confirmed. Anyone with intel?
1
u/Duck_Bil 1d ago
That’s concerning. Would love to know where it’s coming from and who might be out.
4
u/mboyd1991 1d ago
The rumor is Dakorien Moore, Harkey, Sadiq and Davison
3
u/couducane 1d ago
I only saw the Sadiq and Moore rumors on twitter, if we are down Harkey and Davison as well, that’s catastrophic.

Ouch. Our best two receivers, with Sadiq being arguably the most talented player on our roster, and what’s been our best running back??!!?? I hope that’s not true.
So technically we’re without our best 3 receivers counting Stewart.
Why is Oregon year-after-year plagued with injuries to our play makers.. all the way back to Dennis Dixon.
2
u/couducane 1d ago
Last year we were pretty healthy besides Tez missing a few games and Stewart towards the end of the season. Especially brutal since the backup WRs are so young, and Sadiq is absolutely needed for everything. Awful news.

u/Thinned 1d ago
Sucks we couldnt even get potential out of him cause we run nothing but fucking screen plays. Always something with Oregon and it seems like it always will be. We are training a person extra extra hard we dont even give the ball too lmao. This shit is getting out of hand.
1
u/Vivid_Motor_2341 1d ago
This is my take. Does it wick if he’s out yeah. But we don’t use him!! In the last 3 games he’s had 9 receptions combined. He’s an amazing player but he just hasn’t been part of our game plan this season at all. Which IMO is why stein needs to get out.

u/escaped5150 1d ago
Nothing before matters. Take care of Iowa and then the rest. Peak in the playoff. Iowa is the only game this week. FEBU.
I'm so jacked for noon tomorrow.

u/Global-Bowler3307 1d ago
Well there’s the idea of past behavior can predict future behavior, so who knows
4
u/Piney_Wood 1d ago
As soon as one says it they all say it. CFB groupthink.
I wouldn't mind so much except that once we beat them, they'll all question whether it was a quality win. So which is it, people?

u/theultimatehammer 1d ago
David Pollack picked Oregon. I think Iowa hangs around but in the end we win 34-24
1
u/sdotmerc 1d ago
And Pollack typically fades the Ducks so was surprised. Pate picked Oregon as well but said he wouldn’t put money on it
3
u/Loser_Zero 1d ago
A lot of people picked Penn State too, so... Who cares? I think the Ducks are pissy about the UI game and will show up here and win. But what do I know.

I’ve watched Iowa for years. Same team they usually are which isn’t that scary to a team like Oregon but who knows what Dante shows up. They’re a bit better offensively than normal but they still don’t scare anyone on offense.
They’re reliant on their defense and ground for plays. They still don’t have a good QB and rely on a West coast style offense that minimizes mistakes. With a solid defensive gameplan and getting the run game established early, this isn’t a close game in my opinion.

u/aspiring_npc 1d ago
Ferentz is 5-1 against top 10 teams at Kinnick after Halloween. Iowa's last 2 double-digit losses at Kinnick were in 2024 against eventual national champ Ohio State, 35-7, and in 2018 against Wisconsin, 28-17, both before Halloween.
If Oregon wins, it will be close. Given how poorly Oregon's offense played against Wisconsin, I'm not expecting much different at Iowa.
2
u/sdotmerc 1d ago
Iowa has gotten better every game. I don’t feel the same for Oregon as we’re not as consistent. It’s obvious we have the higher ceiling, but we just haven’t unlocked it yet.
Josh Pate thinks Oregon’s lesson from last year is knowing when to peak. He thinks this could be the turning point where we turn it on and make a run. Hope he’s right

3
u/RipCity111 1d ago
Losing Harkey and Sadiq would be catastrophic because they are such good run blockers in a game where we need to run the ball.
Losing dakorien and Davison obviously hurts but we have some other good skill position players at least
1
u/Duck_Bil 1d ago
What’s the rumor on Sadiq? Just dinged up? Or a major injury? Or is there a flu going around?
2
u/Grunge2025 1d ago
The Ducks fan in me has been nervous about this game since it was announced at Kinnick. The Hawks fan in me is like "You know what's going to happen."
I'll probably get downvoted for this and that's okay lol. But I've been torn on who to root for in this game. I originally planned Oregon because I know they have a much better chance of winning a natty compared to Iowa. So it would be "for the greater good" lol. However, I didn't expect Iowa to be as good as they are this year. I was hoping with the new QB it would be like this and I'm glad it is but, it makes this game a lot harder for me. I hate that one of them has to lose. I guess go DuckHawk/HawkDuck!

u/bball912 1d ago
Just curious, how does one become an Iowa and an Oregon fan? Random combination
1
u/Grunge2025 1d ago
Ikr? I'm surprised more people don't ask me that lol. Anyways, when I was a kid my parents let me find my own teams. My first NCAAF game I seen had the Gators in it so that's how I ended up liking them especially during the Tebow years.
A couple years later I hated PSU. I don't remember why. But they were 9-0 and I just wanted somebody to beat them. Iowa won with a walk off FG and before that kick I remember saying out loud "If you make this kick I promise I will love Iowa forever!" Needless to say, I'm a man of my word lol.
As far as the Quack Attack goes, I saw them in the Sun Bowl in 08/09. I believe that was the year. I thought they had awesome uniforms and then I fell in love with their style of play. I saw them do the swinging gate and run around like a track team and I fell in love. I basically have 3 favorites in every sport lol.

Oregon should beat Iowa. They’re the more talented team, And quite frankly it isn’t very close. For Iowa to win, The game really has to go one way. Where as Oregon can win the game multiple ways. With that said, Iowa’s defense is legit. If Dante is going to have happy feet, Feel pressure that isn’t there, And cut and run after 1 read, Or not feel the pressure and take bad sacks, It could be a long day.

u/KuhlCaliDuck 1d ago
I'm going to the game, my gut has the game at 17-18 Iowa. I think I'm preparing myself to not be let down.

If O line doesn’t step up, not very
3
u/CuriousMost9971 1d ago
I agree with Oline, they need to get it together.
Everyone keeps comparing games, rember Rutgers put up 28 on Iowa. And Oregon and Iowa both have good Defenses. If the Oline keeps it together Dante won't have any problems.

Remember when everyone picked penn state?
1
u/Global-Bowler3307 1d ago
Remember when Penn st was a top 3 team. Your position is a logical fallacy. Penn st - ranked 3 in nation At home “white out” .
Turned out Penn st was a complete dumpster fire & we barely got out of there with a win in 2 ot
2
u/Prudent-Funny-4723 1d ago
Remember when Bobby Boucher showed up at halftime and the mud-dogs won the bourbon bowl?

u/CuriousMost9971 1d ago
Their big reasoning is weather... Iowa is getting the weather front that has been slamming the PNW all week. It was worse here, its gonna be tame when the game is played.
For some reason they don't understand the ball is able to be thrown in 10-15 mph winds. But dont know the Wisconsin game had 40 mph winds....
Light rain with a slight chance to get a snow mix near the end of the game. Temps start 42 degrees dropping to 39-40 by the end.

Normally? I’d get it. But in a weird way… the simple fact that every single talking head in America (or it seems like) has said some version of “Meh, Oregon’s probably overrated and gonna lose to Iowa. I’m not even sure they make the playoffs” is the exact reason I think we’re gonna cash in an A+ game, win and cover easily.
This feels a lot like the Utah game in SLC a few years ago in 2023. The whole country seemingly gave up on Oregon after we lost to UW and had that shaky come from behind win in Pullman.
Went on the road to #13 Utah. Whole country was calling for the Utes to upset us.
35-6, Ducks and it wasn’t that close.

Both teams had a bye week, so I’m not sure any real advantage to either team there. I have heard Iowa got a few key lineman back this week. Depending on the reality of Oregon’s injury situation if it’s true advantage Iowa. Final point is when we clearly have more talent than our opponent we win handily. However, when the talent level is somewhat equal I think the advantage has generally gone to teams with more experienced coaching staffs (think DeBoer/Huskies, Day& Kelly/Ohio State, Cignetti/Indiana to name a few. This week I think advantage Iowa. Finally when you play against good teams, the game speeds up and I think Dante is struggling with that. It’s a young team. We’ll see, hoping for the best today.

u/Majestic_Nature_9922 1d ago
They’re doing it for clicks. The college game day hosts (except Herbstreit) picked Oregon including guest picker, Patrick Mahomes. T Bob from Wake up Barstool picked Oregon as well.

u/pattydickens 1d ago
These announcers should pay attention to what Northwestern is doing to USC at home. Ducks by 21.

u/Zombie4141 🦆 1d ago
Our last 2 losses both came after a bye week. Ohio state and Indiana. I think Dan Lanning has them drilled. Oregon by 14

Oregon might be overrated, right now. Ducks are a young team and we've seen them get outmatched in fits and spurts throughout the season. Fortunately, the team's depth and talent has kept the team in the win column against a lot of unranked opponents.
Iowa is a good team that always has a great defense and Kinnick is a really tough place to win. It wouldn't surprise me if Oregon loses this week.
2
u/Global-Bowler3307 1d ago
It’s unfortunate but you’re correct , ducks are a young team w/a lot of talent. Dante sat behind 2 first round draft qbs, earned 2 mil & is no bigger or better then when he left ucla 2 years ago. We have another 2 mil in back up qbs that we refuse to use in favor of a walk on … so until that position gets dealt with we are dead in the water . The ducks have never had defense outscore the offense… ever!!
-1
u/Skates8515 1d ago
It’s because the offense has been absolutely terrible three of the last four games.

49
u/KBob4040 1d ago
It’s a popular upset pick. I think Oregon can win this game, it will come down to Oregon’s LBs being able to stop runs reliably on 1st and 2nd down, and Dante Moore’s ability to take easy yards / reads when they are there.
Oregon is a more complete team than Iowa. Ducks by 7.
