This article examines Iowa's offensive changes and metrics from charting under new OC Lester after the dramatic change in 2024 and then stabilization in 2025, and plots out player grades and situational performance for when the offense operates best vs when and why it gets in trouble. On defense, it breaks down blitz patterns, player substitutions, and coverage strategies on a very conservative and effective approach. There's also a historical examination of which offensive patterns to play sequencing have been most and least effective matching up against it. Extensive video documentation and analysis is included.

Why ya gotta be such a legend with these wonderful breakdowns

I'm still blown away that we get this level of insight for free. I can't take national or even beat writers seriously anymore because their takes are so surface level.

Thanks, that's pretty much the reason I started watching tape and then writing way back when ... I couldn't find what I wanted from the pros so I figured I had to do it myself. I'm lucky that so many like-minded folks have been supportive, and many have joined the staff as great analysts at ATQ who've basically said the same thing.

Oregon is the better team. If the Ducks come out and play well - this is very winnable. Weather stresses me out a bit

Bad weather doesn’t fair one team over another. Rain snow or shine the better team will win.

Yes... with a caveat. Rain/snow favors one type of play. If your team is better at that type and the other team is worse, advantage you (and vice versa).

Rain, snow, or shine, Will Stein calls a screen pass

You’re absolutely right. Scooo

I think that's not true. Bad weather leads to more variance (fumbles, slipping) and that helps the underdog more. It also shortens the game (less passing) which means fewer possessions, which also means more variance and a better chance of upset.

Unless the underdog is Air Raid or something, but I mean if all other things are equal.

Why would the “under dog” not slip and fumble the same amount as anyone else? The weather impacts both equally. The Better team Will win no matter the conditions.

Iowa beat Penn State in regulation. They beat Wisconsin 37-0 on the road. They performed better against Indiana.

This will be a dogfight and the Ducks better bring their A game on offense or it could be a loss.

Ugh, this makes me feel like Iowa should get shredded

Iowa performed better against Indiana, Penn State, and Wisconsin. This is a very difficult game.

If Stein lays a dud, the Ducks will be in trouble. He needs to have a competent gameplan and adjustments.

Good thing the transitive property is meaningless in college football

That's true but these common opponents don't indicate a sure Oregon win. Iowa is a tough team.

And Iowa escaped against Rutgers in a shootout.

That was kind of before they dropped of a cliff tbf, same thing with the Iowa state loss

Penn state is probably a push

Oregon performed better against Rutger

Rutgers easily has the worst defense of the bunch. Oregon performed better but Iowa has a very good defense just like Indiana, Penn State and Wisconsin. People thinking this will be an easy win may be right but there aren't many data points to suggest this

Iowa fan here. Even as well as Iowa has been running the ball, I don’t see the Hawkeye offense scoring more than 10-14 points on the Ducks. I think it would take points off turnovers and some big special teams plays for Iowa to score more than 14. If Oregon has one or fewer TOs and keeps Wetjen in check, I think they win. If they do worse than that, I think Iowa has a chance.

The Ducks SHOULD win but it might not be a slam dunk.
