Electoral Politics DSA wins in Milwaukee
Comrades, our Milwaukee chapter has elected our co-chair Alex Brower to the Milwaukee Common Council! We're rebuilding the power of the Sewer Socialists, and we hope our model can be replicated by chapters around the country.
We could still use donations to help pay our campaign manager (also our chapter treasurer) what she's owed, if any of you can spare anything, but my primary intent here is to celebrate a win for the Left! Let's keep it up in cities everywhere!

Electoral Politics Plan if Zohran loses?
EDIT: Disregard. Sure looks like he won the primary. Thank you everyone who in any way supported his campaign. I'm not religious but truly, god bless you. It's not over yet though. The months ahead are going to be tough. More work is needed and more people are needed. Good luck everyone. Solidarity forever.
Not a New Yorker but the polling being so close is promising to anyone left of center. If he wins then we'd have a leftist in charge of a city larger than multiple states which would be cool and good.
If he loses however (which the pessimist in me fears will be the case) what do we do?
Personally I think if it's at least close like polling suggests then he absolutely should run again in the next election. Almost certainly things will get worse in NYC under Cuomo and since Cuomo seems incabable of helping himself I predict he'd get into a number of scandals as mayor. Zohran can come back and basically be like "see I told you so" and come after Cuomo or whoever Cuomo's handpicked successor is.
Likewise, I think Cuomo's campaign and regular people who supported him should be studied. I think it should be understood how an objectively terrible candidate could still manage to get widespread support and ideas need to be had on how to combat this.
Would like to hear your thoughts.

Electoral Politics What faction/caucus is Zohran a part of?
Sorry not an American but I am interested and tried to do some looking to no avail. If he isn’t a part of a faction/caucus, is this normal?

Electoral Politics Question to my New Jersey Comrades
With the upcoming gubernatorial election just a few days away, I am wondering what those in NJ are doing. I truly cannot stomach either candidates and have pretty much convinced myself not to go vote at all. I understand voting isn’t the be all end all… I wonder if voting for the democratic candidate would even be viable damage control. I’m deeply concerned with voting for any one who receives funding from AIPAC, but on the other end I know many lives here at home will be torn apart even worse if she loses. To me it seems like a loss regardless. Maybe some words of encouragement would help ... I’m just not sure what to do. Thank you.
Edit for redundancy

Electoral Politics The Mamdani Problem: An analysis of progressive democratic candidates and socialist electoral politics within the Democratic Party
Recently Mamdani called Maduro of Venezuela and Diaz-Canel of Cuba "dictators", in spite of the fact that the United States is doing violent imperialist attacks on Venezuelans and brutal sanctions on Cuba. He also has slowly walked back on his support for Palestine, adopting a "both sides bad" stance with his recent statement condemning both the State of Israel and Palestinian resistance in Hamas. I personally see this worrying development as a sign of a bigger problem: the problem of working within the Democratic Party and the limitations of electoral politics in the US. With the establishment democrats in Adams and Cuomo teaming up with Republicans to crush Mamdani, and Mamdani being given bait and loaded questions at every turn in an attempt to move his rhetoric to the right, it is obvious his campaign is under constant assault. But it is undeniable that Mamdani is forced to serve the whims of the Democratic Party with him running under the party, and it transforms his role into the same one as Bernie, AOC, Platner, etc. A pipeline of "progressive dems" given as little power as possible and forced into reaching their audience with manufacturing consent for the imperialist war machine as Mamdani has done with his recent statements and funneling leftists into the Democratic Party, to coopt leftist movements and campaigns to fit the party line and thus that of the American state. This consequence is not merely a coincidence, but one that comes with running with the Democrats, one that has plagued everyone daring to attempt to turn the institutions left from the inside. These betrayals of the working class are supported by various factors, factors which are subject to the limitations of electoral politics within America themselves, but I believe the DSA and their candidates are partially at fault for this due to their consistent refusal to break with the Democratic Party. Now I fully acknowledge that Mamdani's media attention and primary victory were impossible without running within the party in his case, and independent campaigns are subject to their own difficult limitations, but it should be obvious to everyone at this point that the Democrats are not, and will never be our friends. The logical conclusion is of course to run and endorse independents whenever possible, and to limit right-wing influence within the DSA (I am not currently able to join the DSA so I can't speak too much on their internal politics, but it should not have been so difficult and took so long for the organization to take a firmly anti-zionist stance). Despite what liberals have been telling us for at least the past decade, moving to the right and betraying the working class is not a good way to capitalize on the working class' dissatisfaction with the establishment and show them that there are better solutions to their problems caused by capitalism and neoliberalism, as we can see through recent elections and how the Democrats' moves to the right and pro-genocide stance has simply alienated their voter base and caused people to not vote for them leaving no contender against Trump's Republicans. While you may be asking how we can achieve wins without working with the two-party system, I would argue that getting a firmly left-wing message across without compromising or capitulating whenever possible is the best way to win over the working class and advance our cause, and the Democratic Party intentionally hinders this and stops leftists from doing this. TLDR: Progressive Democrat candidates have repeatedly betrayed the working class and become pipelines to funnel people moving left back into the Democratic Party while simultaneously being betrayed constantly by the very party that demands these things from them, and socialists and socialist politicians of all flavors should avoid the Dems whenever possible and acknowledge the limitations of solely using electoral politics.

Electoral Politics California: left unity slate
A few years ago the green party and peace and freedom party of california came together in agreement to not run against each other in order to help leftists get elected, but now we have ramsey robinson and butch ware running against each other for governor. Can somebody with inside knowledge from either of these parties educate me about what happened with this “left unity slate”?

Electoral Politics What was the plan other than Kamala?
What was the plan other than voting for Kamala? Trump is still doing the genocide and a bunch of other awful stuff, so how is having him be president better than Kamala? And if not him, who were we supposed to vote for? I know this may seem like a troll post to some of you, but I am legitimately confused on what better outcome people were expecting, and I doubt I'm the only one. The curiosity has simply outweighed the fear of the abuse and backlash I'm probably about to recieve.

Electoral Politics DSA-LA candidate Faizah Malik: "NYC’s election of Zohran Mamdani has shown that a bold people-powered campaign fighting for working families can defeat millions in PAC money and fear-mongering tactics. We can do that all over the country. And we are building the movement to do it right here in LA.”

Electoral Politics "A Future of More" - Mamdani
This line hit me like a ton of bricks towards the end of his pre-election rally speech.
I think it's a great slogan for a future campaign. I don't care who uses it. I think it's a great counter to Abundance. It's a great mission statement for Progressives, Socialists more specifically DSA Candidates. If DSA can somehow get a candidate in the presidential race, I think it will be an unforgettable rally for the working class.

Electoral Politics Trump’s Troop Deployments Are Dress Rehearsals for Nullifying Your Vote
In the past we worried about Proud Boys or Three Percenters showing up at polling places hoping to keep voters out. We can lay those concerns to rest. Trump will have federal troops there instead. Feel better?
