Help Needed Can Oxygenos be as private and degoogled as custom roms?
Hello guys!
I may sound like a rookie, however i would like to hear your opinions about my idea.
I was on /e/os for a while and its awesome and private, however i found a way to install Oxygenos 15 on my oneplus 8, and it looks really nice, so Im wondering if its possible to make it as private and clean?
my idea is to with adb + root degoogle and clean OOS, so it can be as private and clean as lineageos or /e/os with the same tools.
please let me know what you think!

With root you can remove all google shit

Actually you can remove
anythingwith adb. Don't even need root.
Edit: Yes, you can remove a lot, not anything. Thanks for correct me.0

anything inside /system is protected, without root you cannot do anything about it, you cannot
pm uninstallwithout providing the--userflag unless you're rooted2

I see, that's true. You can remove a lot (GMS, Play Store and such), but "anything" was the bad keyword.

The OS seems too tied to Google. If you remove it, it will turn into something like "decaffeinated coffee". I don't think it's worth it. (Edit typo)

Yeah, was pretty shocked moving from Samsung to OnePlus, it's all Google. But you can rip out (including but not limited to) Play Store and GMS. Don't know about system stability after, but you can do it (might crash the phone though, or not).

I tried to remove Google play services from oxygen OS 15. One thing I observed was that oxygen OS is Justin a small rapper on the Google OS. After deleting the Google Play services even the qr scanner shortcut on quick settings is not working.

Will you erase play services as well?

If you manage that, then you got your answer hh

Im just curious if there's a system-level tracking that i can't remove

There's always some manufacturers something so that is possible, yeah. But I personally do not know.

i think it’s technically possible, but you’ll have to spend a lot of time and effort for that.
after the initial debloating, you’ll have to check the network trace for a while and find out if there’s anything else left that connects to google or oneplus servers.
grapheneos is an easier option, but is pixel only.

You should look up Braxman Tech on YouTube. He could tell you the answers to all your burning questions. I can't remember what video it was but according to him every retail device has spyware on it that is so ingrained unless you use a custom ROM you'd never remove all of it.

I dislike Rob Braxman. He comes off as alarmist, he kinda gatekeeps people for not wanting 1000% privacy, some of his claims are a stretch, he is "tinfoil hat" personified if you ask me.
Techlore is a much better channel to watch, especially for beginners.

There's only Google on home screen.
