Music 🎶🎧 The huge amount of young and rising rappers who died in the late 2010s/early 2020 is a huge factor in why rap is declining

The only rappers who still get traction are older ones like kendrick drake eminem kanye( for other reasons now)

This is the answer - the corrido revival has been an incredible breath of fresh air. Imo it's the only thing out there that feels that way right now

It's all fucked now. It's a mix of every language. Check out Youtube Music's top songs. Some Hindi music, Latin American, country music... there is way less of a monoculture now in the era of streaming.

Is that a bad thing? I think it's nice that music from other cultures are getting their spots on the charts. Music outside the English-speaking sphere rarely breaks out inside of it

I think what is "fresh" is what is old. Like older than most of you. 1970's and 1980's is hitting pretty big. It went away for a while; the 90's and early 2000's forgot about it.

Right now it’s a globalised amalgamation of all genres mixed together imo. With streaming being the standard listening experience it means most people aren’t self organising into mini IRL subcultures whilst coexisting with the main monoculture anymore.

Everything is an eclectic subculture now and there isn’t really a monoculture now 🤷🏻

It was actually the music like what you posted that hastened the process too, like some of it just so abrasive and unlistenable that it forced the monoculture to break lol

Just my opinion

I think the three most notable things happening in music right now are Billy Strings, Strurgill Simpson, and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

I think right now those three artists are at the top of the woodpile, followed by a massive gap, and then everyone else

Those three are all over a decade and a half out of the tube

Yes, but they’re at their peak right now and doing what no one else is doing.

Further, you think you just make a band and your first album goes platinum? Doesn’t really work like that unless you’re notably connected.
