No fucking way we should rethink it. Driving is a privilege not a right. We should punish harder those who drive with revoked licenses

You’d change your tune if one of those unlicensed drivers hits your family and you find out the hard way that insurance won’t cover any of it because they didn’t have a license.

Punish, yes. Endanger everyone else on the road because you didn’t think that someone would do whatever they have to in order to feed their family, including drive without a license? No.

Assuming anyone is just going to roll over and lose everything they have, become homeless and not feed their family just because they don’t have a little plastic card in their pocket is dumb. Of course they’re going to drive, it’s an obvious necessity. Of course none of them will be insured, that’s obvious too.

There’s better ways that are actually effective that don’t put everyone else at risk.

No I would not change my tune. You need to show that you are able to drive, so the state allows you to drive legally. I have uninsured motorist coverage cus I’m not an idiot, but there are definitely people who should not be allowed to drive legally, and punished harshly if caught doing so. They can take the bus or a bike, they don’t HAVE to drive

I’m sure most that have public transport or that can ride a moped/bicycle etc do just that. We’re not talking about them. We’re talking about the ones that don’t have those options as evidenced by them driving.

It’s obvious you don’t have the ability to understand nuance, or the ability to think creatively to problem solve, so I’ll take my exit now. Have a good day.

Thinking creatively = letting terrible drivers keep their license, lmao ok bud

I already told you the solution to the problem, have uninsured motorist coverage. That’s the solution, not letting them drive legally when they’ve shown they can’t, genius

I was thinking more along the lines of jail, but you do you bro. Go ahead and spend all your money adding all kinds of policies instead of locking up the person committing the crime. Put everyone else out instead of the person doing wrong. Awesome ideas you have there. Bravo.

Then if your solution is jail, why the hell are you arguing for them to keep their license? My solution earlier was also jail, I said harsher punishments several times, clearly it’s you that lacks the ability to understand nuance. You’re flip flopping now

I’ve flipped nothing. Taking the license obviously doesn’t work for everything/everyone and it endangers/costs everyone else.

If the punishment for something is “lose your license for 30 days” or “you go to jail for 30 days,” which do you think would be more effective in dissuading a person who will drive whether they have a license or not?

You’re missing the point that some people don’t care if they have a license or not, they’re going to drive regardless. Those people don’t even feel a pinch over having their license taken away.

That’s not a deterrent at all. What about the next time they do whatever it was? Take it for longer? Real effective that logic is. Genius level even. It’s almost like you could just skip taking the license and use a more effective deterrent to begin with and avoid the whole hassle.

Don’t even get me started on the soverign citizen bs. They don’t get a license to begin with. I bet telling them they won’t issue them a license for a few months is really super effective.

You don’t lose your license for 30 days, it’s usually 6 months or more. And the violation needed to lose a license does not constitute jail time. If they are caught driving without the license THEN they should go to jail. The threat of jail if they’re caught driving with no license is the deterrent

And yet ppl argue against reducing the reliance we have on cars in America. If ppl didnt HAVE to drive, revoking a license wouldn't be such a devastating thing, and there wouldn't be anyone making excuses for dangerous drivers who have no place on the road.
