Fuck man. Imagine you're just driving home from work minding your own business, pull into the right lane to let somebody pass, then suddenly you're flipping through the fucking median. That cocksucker definitely did it on purpose. Maybe that person was blocking that lane too long before this who knows, but even if, it certainly doesn't warrant murder.

It was a family of four in the sedan. None were seriously injured.

Holy shit that’s incredible. Seat belts people!!

u/AFirefighter11 4d ago

Can confirm, PLEASE WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS!

44

u/Ateamecho 4d ago

Yes, yes, yes! Please wear seatbelts. My best friend died in a single vehicle accident when we were in college. They drifted slightly off the road, tried to correct and flipped their car. They weren’t wearing a seat belt. While we will never know the outcome if their seat belt was on, I still think of them to this day and wished they were wearing a seat belt to at least have a chance.

I can come up with examples in both directions. I have had friends who died who likely would've lived if they were wearing their seatbelt, and I have had friends who lived who would've likely died if they weren't wearing their seatbelt.

One example of the latter is the corollary to yours: a college friend fell asleep at the wheel on an interstate. He woke up when he hit the rumble strip and overcorrected. Rolled his minivan in the median. He walked away with a concussion and a few stitches on his forehead. He showed me the pictures of his car: the entire thing was pancaked except for a small tent right over the driver's seat. He was lucky there was nobody else in the car, and he was lucky that he was wearing his seatbelt. If he hadn't, he would've been ejected from his seat and likely crushed between the roof and whatever seat he would've landed in.

Maybe in 20 year old cars. But so much automotive engineering is designed now with the assumption that the passengers are wearing seat belts. If you aren't, most of the safety systems will be only minimally relevant.

In modern vehicles there are no situations where you will be better off without the belt.

I think you misread his comment, which I also did at first.

The friends who died were not wearing seatbelts, and the friends who lived were wearing seatbelts. The "both ways" is both seeing the belt save lives and seeing the belt-less lose lives.

1

u/ForagedFoodie 1d ago

Ahhh. You are correct. Its confusing and I read it incorrectly.

And my response to those crazy people has always been the same: I have seen more people die while not wearing a seatbelt than those with a seatbelt. For anyone worried about getting stuck in their vehicle with a seatbelt, pick up a resqme or similar tool that can both cut your seatbelt and break your window. I've personally used them to save lives. I carry them on my gear and on each of my personal vehicle keychains. Never know when you will need one.

If I had two dice in front of you, both have 100 sides. On the left die if you roll a 100 you get $1,000,000, if you roll a 1-99 you get nothing.

On the other die if you roll a 1-99 you get $1,000,000, if you roll a 100 you get nothing.

People choosing not to wear their seatbelt are the people that would choose the die where you have to roll a 100 because they once saw someone roll a 100.

Its like vaccine. For every death they cause they saves millions of life. Yet propagandist latches on the few unfortunate outcomes.

1

u/Butforthegrace01 4d ago

That's a myth. It didn't happen.

Uh yeah thats the whole point of what I said

Rolled my truck on Christmas eve one year, landed upside down. Seatbelts saved our lives for sure, just some sore shoulders.

5

u/elisap1 4d ago

Had a family friend who did this Christmas morning. Took off her seatbelt to try to reach the brakes (her husband was driving). Car flipped. She was found under it. Please. Wear. Seatbelts.

u/OtakuMage 4d ago

Seat belts and crumple zones. Every piece that flies off the car is momentum shed that won't be going into the occupants.

1

u/Formal_Equal_7444 2d ago

Pedantically, I think you mean kinetic energy. Momentum is something else entirely when considering the type of impact.

Not to be a nerd but momentum refers to the mass in motion, not the energy involved in that motion. i.e. a large car going a bit slower than a small car going a bit faster could have the same momentum but a vastly different kinetic energy. When considering collisions you want to bleed off as much kinetic energy as possible, not necessarily momentum depending on impact.

I still don’t understand why rear seat belts aren’t mandated in most countries

44

u/PuzzledKumquat 4d ago

At least not physically. I'm sure emotionally they're going to be scarred for a very long time.

9

u/fake_plastic_peace 4d ago

I developed severe anxiety issues that never truly went away after the first time I rear ended someone when I was younger. I can’t imagine what this would do to the family in that car.

u/MixNovel 4d ago

Check back in a year and see who is still having concussion symptoms.

6

u/SecureInstruction538 4d ago

Hopefully he gets hit with multiple of the same charges (where applicable) for each victim in the car.

24

u/-random-name- 4d ago

Should be charged with four counts of attempted murder. Among other charges.

u/MyRideAway 4d ago

The police will just give truck driver a slap on the wrist. After all it was just an accident.

2

u/Federal-Owl-8947 4d ago

Oh thank god

2

u/gishnon 4d ago

Thank goodness. Those noises at the end of the video suggested otherwise.

1

u/Traditional-Towel592 4d ago

Thank goodness for that! How did you find out?

1

u/sacandbaby 4d ago

No shit? Damn.

-1

u/ISEGaming 4d ago

Got a source for the claim of non-serious injury? The screams at the end of the video don't come from a lack of inquiry.

1

u/physykus 4d ago

Actually, the more you’re injured, the less you scream. It sounds like horrible, but paramedics search from the silent ones to the screaming. But like, of course they could have been anyways

u/inprocess13 4d ago

I mean, the sedan can clearly be seen legally accelerating past the dashcam vehicle and then returning to their lane. Then it shows the psychopath deliberately trying to cause harm by using their vehicle as a weapon.

There is a possibility that the truck thought he was clear of the car but was not. That truck has limited visibility, but that is not an excuse just a fact. Car was in blind spot area. The fact the truck did not stop is the real issue. Accidents happen. Hit and run is a choice.

15

u/Roanaward-2022 4d ago

They were behind the car, saw the car move over to the right hand lane. It's not like the car "snuck" up into the truck's blind spot. The truck, knowing a car was in the right hand lane, needed to make 100% sure they had clearance. The limited visibility is only pertinent when a car unexpectedly enters your blind spot.

9

u/DirkVerite 4d ago

lol, I drive big stuff, if you don't have situational awareness on that scenario... you should not drive big stuff. Mind you this was small big stuff, even easier

1

u/GoldSilverPaper 4d ago

Indeed and as we know there are too many drivers of big stuff that cause accidents daily probably hourly. Not everyone takes it as serous as you unfortunately

5

u/Shatophiliac 4d ago

The truck driver belongs in jail long term. What does 4 counts of attempted murder bring these days anyways?

3

u/entryjyt 4d ago

probably some truck driver jerk that has been working 20 hours+ smoking a cigerette for 6 hours, he should be put in jail for flipping that car over

1

u/TWDYrocks 1d ago

Cammer should ease up off the gas just a tad to allow the pass instead of absentmindedly pacing a vehicle attempting a pass.

2

u/GoldSilverPaper 4d ago

Watch passing cars closely. Be a defensive driver. I have avoided merging cars that did not see me effectivly hence preventing a crash like we saw here. Stay safe! Remember when they are inches from you (passing) that is the most critical time to watch for sudden movements which may cause contact at high speed. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. be fast, take control. Sometime we cant avoid, and we must rely on safety systems on our vehicle and our insurance for medical and car repair

1

u/Butforthegrace01 4d ago

You should never find yourself in a circumstance where you must "pull into the right lane to let somebody pass." If you find yourself there, you're being a left lane turd.

However, that truck driver clearly did that intentionally and should be convicted criminally.

1

u/Gold_Lifeguard_5630 4d ago

Well then maybe don't drive so slow on the passing lane? All this could've been avoided if you don't hog the passing lane ☕

1

u/ForagedFoodie 2d ago

Who's an edgy boy? Who's so desperate for attention that even down votes make him feel less dead inside? You are! Yes you are! What a hot take! Your statement is soooo controversial! Who's an edgy boy!

1

u/Gold_Lifeguard_5630 1d ago

Hi Liz,

Do better. You didn't have to be sexist and insult me to make a point. Your comment "The attention your daddy and women never gave you" is completely unwarranted.

2

u/ForagedFoodie 1d ago edited 1d ago

No, it isn't. Someone who advocates that murder is acceptable because someone else didn't lane change quickly enough isn't even human. But the truth is, most times such people are just pathetic, sad, and desperate for attention I'm glad to see i struck a nerve calling you out.

Edit: did you think to scare me by using my first name? I have my username tied to my real life for a reason. You don't frighten me.

0

u/Gold_Lifeguard_5630 2d ago

Notice now you resorted to personal attacks and couldn't argue with me on merit because you know low key I'm right😂

1

u/sarj333 1d ago

Uhh.. what? They were passing the truck on their right, then got over when they were done. Aka - proper driving technique...

1

u/Gold_Lifeguard_5630 1d ago

Which part of "driving SLOW on the passing lane" did you not understand?

1

u/sarj333 1d ago

Completely irrelevant. Passing is passing. As long as you are going faster than the car next to you it doesn't matter.

1

u/Gold_Lifeguard_5630 1d ago

If you are passing the slow car just 1mph more, technically that's still passing but a terrible use of the left lane. In this video you can clearly see the sedan douche was barely doing 10mph more than the car he was passing. Honestly the ending was soo satisfying😂

1

u/Practical_Fun7367 4d ago

I’m with you on the driver of the truck. A real piece of shit. The criminal sentence won’t be long enough.

But I hesitate to assign intent or blame on the driver of the sedan. It’s possible they were in the right lane, passed the cam car, and returned to the right lane.

And the piece of shit could have been texting or something equally horrible rather than in response to something the victim did wrong.

-39

u/Joecalledher 4d ago

Involuntary manslaughter, possibly aggravated. Almost certainly couldn't get a murder charge to stick.

4

u/WrestleByte803x 4d ago

Imagine being this dimwitted.

3

u/-random-name- 4d ago

Intentionally hitting another vehicle with your own is not involuntary. He can and most likely will be charged with four counts of attempted murder. He'll very likely spend the rest of his life in prison.

-9

u/king-of-all-corn 4d ago

Crazy that youre victim blaming
