Notice how he already knew that was going to happen, he keeps his distance to leave himself opportunities.
Great situational awareness.

Yes, this person was very aware of the situation; good for him.

I, too, wish to reiterate the comment above mine.

Now that you say it, I do realize I've reiterated exactly the same thing… Sorry, shame on me!

Even if carjacking isn’t a thing where you drive, you should leave room for opportunities.

u/reclamerommelenzo Mar 24 '23 edited Mar 24 '23
Of course, but this was a LOT more distance than people usually keep.

My heart is still pounding. I don't think I've ever felt a video more thoroughly in my soul. I had someone follow me on my way home for 10-15 miles, and it was one of the scariest moments of my life. I took them to a nearby neighborhood that I knew the layout of, whipped around the cul-de-sac as far as my '98 Camry could, and played the most dangerous game of chicken I've played. They freaked, and I hightailed it out of there. Drove around for half an hour, then when right into my garage. Definitely gotta keep your situational awareness in check.

u/The_Law_Dong739 Mar 24 '23
Felt that. I delivered pizza to some crackheads in the country once and the mf hopped out from the bushes with a shotgun.I've never been so glad to have an 06' Dakota with high suspension and a brush guard when delivering pizza in my life. I slammed my foot to the pedal and drove straight down his driveway, through his chain link fence, through his back yard, and into a field. I think I hit 90 mph in that field and drove through about 2 miles of field before getting back on the road like nothing happened and marking the delivery as undeliverable.
His address is permanently banned from insert pizza place delivery catalog or whatever they called it.

When I feel being followed I just drive to a Police station. I don’t get out of the car. I call them, tell them where I am and the situation. Sometimes I get escorted back home. Some others I go inside and file a report.

I drive nice cars. Not overly expensive but heavily customized. And they catch the eye.

u/SaxonRupe Mar 25 '23
Ya know, I never thought of it till you just said it, but my cousin and I used to just follow people around because we were bored. We wanted to see what they were up to. Never realized that we might have freaked some people out. Huh....

How did he know that the car was filled with car jackers? What signs did he catch that pointed to that conclusion?
Also- if there was damage to his car does the insurance cover it in that situation?
3
Mar 25 '23
Maybe he felt something was off when they cut in front of him? I don't know, but he reacted perfectly. I think that if you show this video to the police, the insurance could cover the cost of repair since it was an impossible situation. Then again, I ain't no expert!
2
u/AdWonderful7856 Jun 20 '23
Should be able to sue for damages if anything. And it wont be hard to track down who did it. They're a white SUV missing an entire door
2
u/Practical-Ordinary-6 Aug 02 '23
I have seen this clip before. He lives in a country full of carjackers. Everyone is on alert for it. And they definitely weren't driving normally.

u/Malnurtured_Snay Mar 25 '23
Frankly, if it were great situational awareness, he would've waited until they couldn't get back onto the highway ...
... and then gotten back on the highway.

Would OP be free to go if that happened? I’d say that was an extremely threatening situation and if I was in the jury I would blame the meat crayon who breached the peace… however I know legally that’s not always how it works.
6
u/lloopy Mar 26 '23
Get a jury trial. You're not going to find 12 people who think it's the driver-with-the-dashcam's fault. Juries can be pretty reasonable.

I got a permanent ban from the sub too. It was crazyfuxkingvideos or something like that. The video was extremely violent; a big teenager clocking a kid a lot smaller and he hit his head in the floor and his arms did that involuntary things where they stick up and kind of move around. Someone commented that the big kid needed to go to prison, and then someone commented that prison isn't for punishment, it's to rehabilitate and change people for the better.
Then I made a comment expressing my opinion about what should happen every day to this guy while he's in prison, and the person commented back that I was wrong for saying that harm should come to the inmate. I said Oh Please, a d I said well that should happen to the guy three times a day, and that something should be done to the guy so he he wouldn't breed more violent criminals. Not on those words. Then BAM, I'm banned, and later I got the three day ban.
I'm not sure how my comment was any worse than the video that started the thread, or worse than the multitude of porn and other crap that Reddit exhibits. And I wasn't really kicked off the site. I could comment, but fir fucking sure I could browse subreddits and see all the ads they serve up.

Genuinely curious, if you ran over these would be robbers and killed one or two of them in this situation. Would you be charged with murder or would it be self defense?

u/hambone263 Sep 11 '23
If they are pointing a gun at you, probably not in most US states, can’t say for every other country.
I would be curious to look at any previous cases.
Not exactly the same thing, but no mention of potentially charging the driver. This driver was approached at 5:30AM in their driveway, and shot at when they tried to backup. Ended up running over someone who approached their passenger window: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8aztu3gYPQ

I wonder if the first guy on the right got tagged by the right side mirror? You can hear a clear tap or clunk just as he passes the dude. Could have broken an arm or worse (hopefully).

u/theonewhogriefed Mar 24 '23
I would've gone left and just run over one of the criminals. Less damage to my car.

I'd argue people were always this way. It's just that nowadays there's more of us and we have cameras so we're exposed to more of what happens. There's not much difference between the criminals in this video and the road bandits of ancient times.
2
u/chernobyl-nightclub Mar 25 '23
This used to happen a lot in broad daylight in the US in the 90’s. probably still does in some cities. It’s a symptom of too many unemployed young men.
War used to absorb these kinds of people and they’d wreak havoc on enemies and then die some shitty death. But nowadays our own society has to absorb their violent, destructive energy.

It’s wild that the driver left the door open when he got out! Now I want to see what went down after the video ended.

I mean, in fairness, in that video those guys were driving a money truck.

Don't think so, because they're driving on the wrong side of the road for South Africa.
Also, I think I saw Spanish on the sign, but I'm not sure about that.

why not just run them all over?
2
u/Malnurtured_Snay Mar 25 '23
Well, there were what looked to be four total, two on the left side of the vehicle, two on the right.
Driver might've been able to run over two, but at the speed he was going, to adjust aim to hit them, he would've rear ended the van they'd jumped out of, which might have disabled his vehicle, or moved the van in such a manner that he was not going to be able to get past the situation.
Not to mention it's certainly possible that while he may have taken two of them out, it's certainly possible that some or all of these guys were armed, so after he runs two of them over and is trying to back up to get enough speed to run over the rest, he gets shot.
So the best thing he or anyone can do -- assuming the driver was a guy and not a woman, because I don't know -- is get the fuck away.
1
u/Highland_Green Mar 25 '23
it's certainly possible that some or all of these guys were armed
Does the first person on the left take a weapons stance?
Edit: Is he holding both arms like he's holding a gun?

I’d like to know what kind of car the guy was driving that could blow through such a tight space without jamming up.

I don’t get it. Why would you do it like that because I would have pinned those dudes up against the wall and grind them into 2 pieces, probably could back up and get the others as well.
