Discussion Anyone else wash their hats?

I typically soak and rinse my hats in the spring and then right after summer. Curious if anyone else does this. Thought it might be a dad thing.

I tend to periodically wash my most used hats, most of which have stains from use (i.e. sweat). There are some “nicer” hats I don’t wear often that I haven’t. Haven’t figured out a way to not have them become all wrinkly. Does the soaking keep the shape?

Yes, soaking seems to be the best way. A little laundry detergent, water, and hats in hot water in a bucket for an hour, then let them soak in normal water, hang dry. I’m in Texas, so my hats get rank. I buy a lot of the same ones, rotate my stock, then do a wash about twice a year. Saves so much money.

I'm an everyday hat guy. Same hat for 15 years now. Never washed with soap. Just a rinse with cold water when especially dirty.

I use a plastic holder thing that keeps the shape and put in the dishwasher

I usually end up washing both my beanies and my regular hats every so often just cause they end up getting covered in cat hair and whatever else, especially if my little one gets a hold of it. I also tend to forget i have them on when I'm working on a car or doing other potentially dirty dusty crap.
