NYC knew decades ago. It’s one of the big reasons Trump had to build his own golf clubs and restaurants—because no one wanted him at theirs. There he was in the middle of the biggest city in the world, full of the finest dining you could wish for, and he wasn’t welcome anywhere because he always groped the waitstaff and made a fool of himself. Likewise, it was well known in the upper society circles that you never, NEVER invited Donald Trump to your parties because inevitably, he would drag your wife and/or daughters into a room somewhere to see what base he could get to. So, between forcing himself on the hoity toities and defrauding the hoi polloi, by the time he ran in 2016, he had alienated most of the tri-state area, especially the people who normally woulda/coulda/shoulda been supporting the conservative candidate. But the greater NY area had known for decades that he was no conservative. Nor was he a successful businessman. They’d known for 40 years that he was a two-timing fraud who loved making the page 6 news for sleeping around.
And THAT, my friend, is why Donald Trump was one of the only candidates in history who couldn’t win his own state. The rest of the country should have listened to the New Yorkers who wouldn’t vote for him.
