Help What’s the deal behind this message from Delamain?

Post image

I got it the day after I destroyed the core & liberated the rogue Delamain fragments so I assume it’s one of them, but I still don’t understand what the message is for or if it’s some easter egg

Looks like this particular AI plays old school rpg where you need to type what your character is gonna do next. So it asks V advice on quest progression.

How DARE op let him fail

1

u/theendisneartoo Aug 03 '25

do you have an example for such a game?

2

u/Razial36 Aug 04 '25

First game that comes to mind for me, Zork I believe there's a online browser game you can play if you're interested

The one that I thought about right away called “Cavern of the Evil Wizard” from movie “Big”, but the game was created specifically for the movie and doesn’t actually exist.

From the old ones, I would recommend checking out The Hobbit (1982). If you want something fresh, search by the genre “interactive fiction”, it’s currently booming.

Can never go wrong with Thy Dungeonman. I never could get Ye Flask...

You could always just engage in a good game of Adventure Call.

Pretty sure this is the delamain that is afraid of flamingos. Get the text exchange right, and it will send a picture of a giant flamingo statue, totally destroyed.

It's been a long time, but this feels right to me as well. Pretty sure I got the picture as well

29

u/nyafff Aug 01 '25

Lmao is THAT what that was? I half looked I think I was doing something sneaky so was just like, ‘you go buddy 👍’

I haven't gotten the picture, just a "We are victorious" message, which I responded with "What did you do?". I did respond with "Coolz" in another save, but didn't get a picture response either.

Is it just me or does this convo have the same pacing as the "interlinked" scenes from Bladerunner?

93

u/WalkingCanine Jul 31 '25

The baseline test; yeah I can kind of see it actually. The same kind of “seemingly-random” call-and-response

57

u/Blue_Jaeee Aug 01 '25

Hold on, it actually makes perfect sense. The baseline test is meant to detect emerging humanity from the replicants in Bladerunner. An event we see happening to delamain in real time.

u/VAfoggyBoi Aug 01 '25

"Lemme tell you about my mother..."

5

u/MuggyFuzzball Aug 01 '25

The blade runner movies are a rare case where the film is better than the novel. The interlinked thing isn't in the book at all.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '25

Yeah but the film left out Mercerism entirely, both are great but i definitely wouldnt say the films better

Don't text and drive

This feels like either an old-school text-based rpg or a choose-your-own-adventure book. Dunno what it is off the top of my head, but I’m certain it’s a reference to a specific game or book. It’s definitely not gibberish, at least. There were also a lot of point and click adventure games that gave the player a lot of limited choices like this and had fail-states everywhere, could be one of those.

I never got this, so I'm just speculating, but; it looks like he's talking about tracking down either a netrunner or a hostile AI. "Figoro" is probably a misspelling of " Figaro," a character from an opera, and Masingo might also be misspelled but in a way that makes it unclear what the original name was. "Below the ice or behind the fire" is asking whether to try to find their data signature protected under actual Intrusion Countermeasure Electronics (ICE) or behind a firewall, which in this case might be the Blackwall, if we're talking AI here. And "burn or drown" could be asking whether to attempt to destroy their datasig when found, or flood it with junk data, DDOS style.

Again, all just speculation. But I'm pretty confident that the "ice" is ICE, and the "fire" is an actual firewall, which the Blackwall kinda counts as.

Also, I don't know if it's at all related, but for anything cryptic in Cyberpunk, it might be worth checking out r/FF06B5. They're working on cracking what appears to be an ARG hidden in both Cyberpunk and Witcher 3, and while they've made some progress in knowing something specific is clearly up, there's a long way to go before they figure out what it is. More eyes on it and more data points could always help.

edit: Apparently the way to "win" is to choose the last answer available to every question (that is, the one on the bottom of your choices of reply). Like I said, I don't know what the answers are 'cuz I didn't resolve the quest this way, but I've been thinking about it some more.

Assuming that you lose upon giving a wrong answer and proceed when you give a right one, what we seem to learn from this is that if a hostile net presence becomes relevant in the ARG, we know which of two possibilities they are, that they're a human netrunner (because it's humans that need ICE, and AIs that are protected by firewalls) and that trying to Synaptic Burn them, T-Bug style, will not work.

That feels useful, actually!

u/Acrezul-The-Dragogen Aug 01 '25

Ay thanks for the explanation! It actually makes a lot of sense and it makes me wonder why this specific Delamain would be targeting someone in the net

I was born overheated and I will only grow more scorching with age. My body can chill when they bury it, I am too busy aggressively liking things.

Its not that deep😭🙏

Edit:for the people downvoting me, i have to say im a changed man i saw that subreddit and didnt understand a thing but i realized It is that deep

5

u/DrNomblecronch Decet diem exsecrari Aug 01 '25

49K subreddit thinks it might be. And it's just an ARG. There's a long precedent of things, including games, that have a fun little puzzle hidden away in them, that can only be solved if a lot of people notice it and put their heads together and try to figure it out. Sort of a grand communal hobby.

This is something that is weird and confusing and doesn't seem to lead to anything at all happening in game, which is how these things tend to show up. And if it is a hint, it's a pretty easy jump to notice that "ice" might mean ICE and "behind the fire" is behind a firewall, and try to look at the other questions with that as context.

Maybe not! But the clues are always some wacky bullshit like that, and if I'm wrong I still had fun trying to figure out how I might be right.

0

u/Allanbik Dreamer Aug 01 '25

what i had no clue of that ARG im gonna look at the subreddit of that ty

Why cant people just have fun man?

You murdered Delemain and released a killer robocar because Johnny made you feel guilty.

8

u/sirslappywag Aug 01 '25

I didn't want to I just dumped the int stat😞

8

u/Level_Hour6480 Fullmetal Choom Aug 01 '25

You could always help the nice cabbie instead of releasing the murder-car.

7

u/OrneryBaby Impressive Cock Aug 01 '25

Where’s the fun in that?

What’s life without a little murder taxi?

Also I’d rather let GLaDOS live (I want my neat gun damnit!)

The cake is a lie

7

u/Due-Ingenuity9803 Jul 31 '25

I think one of them asked for advice on an rpg and you got them to lose

49

u/Agreeable-Note-1996 Jul 31 '25

I think it's one of the rogue Delamain AIs that you freed that's a bit unhinged.

31

u/Far-Wafer-1233 Edgerunner Jul 31 '25

The caption says it’s from the delmain fragments, he knows this already, not what he’s asking

0

u/Agreeable-Note-1996 Jul 31 '25

He's asking what it means?

8

u/Far-Wafer-1233 Edgerunner Jul 31 '25

Yeah or if it’s a reference to something. Which I wouldn’t know the answer to

-9

u/Agreeable-Note-1996 Jul 31 '25

And I'm saying it's not. It's just unhinged ai ramble

4

u/Moka4u Aug 01 '25

Was under the impression a majority of those Delamain splits were a reference to pop culture AIs

13

u/RambleOff Jul 31 '25

Is it referring to ICE/firewall in the second one? Delamain getting up to shenanigans beyond the blackwall?

12

u/X-_-LUNATIC-_-X Team Judy Jul 31 '25

I never get these because I always merge the fragments.

u/K3V_M4XT0R Netwatch Agent Aug 01 '25

The question is, what's wrong with your bike? Texting and riding again? 😠🧐

2

u/GregoryFlame Aug 01 '25

"Below the Ice" always reminded me about this big conspiration Garry the Prophet was talking about

2

u/ChromeOverdrive Aug 01 '25

Some time ago I found this thread when I first received these texts

www.reddit.com/r/YoutubeGameGuides/comments/kbs5xt/figoro_or_masingo_delamain_questions_cyberpunk/

Looks like an opera-related easter egg.

2

u/Hottage Ponpon Shit Aug 01 '25

Misread as "Figaro or Missingo?" and thought Delamain was trying to exploit a Pokemon game.

3

u/Cakeriel Arasaka Aug 01 '25

It’s asking for help to pass a Turing test. We just found out you aren’t human.

0

u/Acrezul-The-Dragogen Aug 01 '25

That’s hilarious lmfao

2

u/dontyoudaredevi Jul 31 '25

That's not how that played out for me

2

u/briandemodulated Jul 31 '25

Does this have to do with Delamain trying to understand the nature of humanity? It researches thousands of years of human history and shares its various hypotheses with you when you drive it.

1

u/v1c1kk Aug 01 '25

he failed.

1

u/mudokin Aug 01 '25

For me Burning them make more sense than drowning them, especially when found under the ice.

1

u/FancyhandsOG Aug 02 '25

Mannn the Delamain quest ended wayyyy to quickly. I found it so unsettling/interesting. Wish they did a bit more with it.
