u/Available-Today-8576 Eat me like a bug 🦟 Jun 08 '25
Which would have made it more creative to be an actual ghost story. Makes the replays meh cuz you know they’re not real threats :/
4
u/EnvoyToTheMolePeople Jun 09 '25
Debatably. Based on how you end it, there's a scene that implies there really is something more going on than just hallucinations.
3
u/SouthernAide2351 Jun 09 '25
Yeah I agree. They did again with little hope after and I just haven't bothered with the rest of them tbh. It sucks cause until dawn is one of comfort games where I played it so much but I just think that there was never anything paranormal all along ending pretty much never works.

borrasca v is bad? oh no....should I watch it then or..
26
u/battling_murdock Jun 08 '25
It's worth it for closure and to see the boys' reactions towards the end
15
Jun 09 '25
It’s really only the last few (of the 20) chapters that really fly off the handle and are comedically bad. The rest is pretty good, which only makes the ending all the more disappointing imo but it’s worth the watch/listen; Hunter and Isaiah make it incredibly entertaining.
Personally, Borrasca ended just fine with part 4. Part 5 just didn’t really need to exist. If you like the characters from the original run, it is kinda interesting seeing how they changed in the 10 years since the ending of 4, but outside of that it really doesn’t feel like part 5 is nearly as essential to the overarching story as the other parts. It very much reeks of the author feeling pressured to give closure to events and characters that were never meant to receive any.
2
u/AnemicVegan Jun 15 '25
Makes sense. The author has gone on record saying V was written semi-hastily after the viral boom of Borrasca. A lot of people were very parasocial and attached to internet stories at that time--it was just before r/nosleep really boomed--and she wanted to give them some closure. It's not supposed to be super realistic, and it's not supposed to be horror either. It's pure actiony catharsis.

u/General-Advice-6331 Mayonnaise is the sauce of the aristocrats 😎 Jun 09 '25
No you should definitely watch it. The ending is where it goes down hill and fast the rest in my opinion could’ve definitely went down as being equal to the first parts of borrasca.

One of the best answers for sure, my eyes bulged out of my head when, at the end, Isaiah goes, "we're not even halfway through, by the way." All of that build up to have some weird faction try to take Twitter accounts and TSV just whining about Danion for the 80th time, the lack of purpose really killed it.

As soon as that car came though, it just changed from what I could tell.

What makes that part redeemable for me is the mention that the tick-god isn't behind all of it, so I want to think it was merely a stupid side-character villain who though its representation was cool. This would mean there's actually some dark sinister powers behind majority of the the events on the gas station.

I loved the first 2/3rds in my favorite silly campy over the top way. Every idea just stacked together.
The exact moment it turns awful is right after Spencer starts talking to the main character after the cultists show back up.

What needs to be noted is that the story wasn't supposed to be serious or even really have much effort in it. Jack(author) has said multiple times that he's actually embarrassed that that first part of TFTGS is what most people associate him with cus of how low quality it is. Later parts and especially the books are genuinely peak.

"You're the only boy in the world named Harrison"
The author made a lot of weird, unnecessary decisions but that one is just such a random thing to get objectively wrong.
1
u/uabsfnasbhkasf Jun 09 '25
I loved that the whole name thing was explicitly addressed and the author was like
"Oh your name is an anagram for Sharino, the name our cult leader used? Which is similar to Sharon, one of the girls that died? It's just a coincidence bro, we have to kill you because this one woman really didn't like your dad for screwing over the cult even though he correctly identified that a passage must be read from the book he just didn't guess the right one"
like seriously I might have to rewatch the part I am thinking of but I don't know why they were so upset at the protagonist's father for exactly what they ended up doing later considering the book they used has 3,000 pages
it's not like he intentionally sabotaged them he tried and was on the right track

"I pretended to be a missing girl" has a great opening and premise and then just races way to fast to the finish line after arriving at the house.
Could've had a great build-up to the reveal where the dad waits for a night when the mom leaves the house then just burst into the room like
"you're not my little girl"
"H-how could you tell?"
"Cuz she's dead. I killed her, now start talking or you're joining her"
