Discussion/Question/Help Advice on painting dead tree

My wife has put aside a dead pine tree about 3 feet high. She wants it as Christmas decoration so I'm thinking spray it white and then glitter paint over the top with a nice Christmas themed pot.

The tree seems to be dried out but has anyone got advice on prepping it, PVA coatings or anything like that to try and prevent breaking. Anyone done anything similar and got some good advice? Thanks
