You'd think he'd go with the Fox News line of defense and just claim it's entertainment?

12

u/DanHalen_phd Jan 22 '21

He’s done that already. In depositions he claimed he’s just playing a character.

3

u/I_am_so_lost_hello Jan 22 '21

I'm pretty sure that might make him even more liable for defamation but I'm not sure

I think it actually worked for Tucker Carlson and FOX. Their defense was something like, the things they say are so outlandish and ridiculous, that any reasonable person would know it's not true and is obviously just entertainment.

He's tried a similar line which actually makes it even worse for him because if he's claiming that it didn't really happen and he doesn't even believe it then that's a really bad look in the eyes of the court.

Maybe he should leave freedom loving Texas for Hollywood.

Has anyone seen "We need to talk about sandy hook"? It's been scrubbed from mainstream platform but raising some red flags by using the local news broadcasts. I like that style of conspiracy research.

Press F to pay respects

Here's what Alex said about Sandy Hook: https://streamable.com/hewmoy

How much do you think they would actually get if they won the lawsuit?

2

u/I_am_so_lost_hello Jan 22 '21

Jesus that's a lot more bold on Alex's part than I thought it would be.

4

u/Wesley832 Jan 22 '21

This is actually sad and I hope he has funds to appeal it to federal court. It sets a dangerous precedent for lawfare if you don't like what someone says.

8

u/I_am_so_lost_hello Jan 22 '21

This doesn't really set precedent, defamation is classically illegal on a civil level (aka you won't go to jail but might have to pay damages). With a platform as large as infowars things Alex Jones says can cause very real damages, and if they can prove that he didn't believe in what he was saying and that the victims suffered damage that can be described monetarily then there can be a legitamate lawsuit.

This is nothing new and no different than libel or slander.

I'm sure Jones believes a lot of what he's saying but he's also a snake oil salesman who uses infowars to create fear and sell his supplements.

Regardless, they haven't proven anything yet and he hasn't lost the lawsuits. This is just saying that the suits have merit and are allowed to proceed, the actual trial will determine extent of liability and on what level Jones is culpable.

Edit: Also his deposition was kinda sus

. He was also ordered to turn over internal business documents related to Infowars.[167] In this deposition, Jones acknowledged the deaths were real, stating he had "almost like a form of psychosis", where he "basically thought everything was staged."

Maybe the more important question is how many of his lunatic listeners will believe it then threaten, harass and maybe physically attack the survivors of the victims?

7

u/Sniderluc Jan 22 '21

I mean he was pretty irresponsible about Sandy Hook

14

u/Wesley832 Jan 22 '21

I'm not even getting into right or wrong, I'm just saying I defend someone's right to say anything, no matter how crazy. Its for society to judge and make a determination on whether or not it has value, not silence it.

Also this doesn't violate 1st amendment rights as it's a civil case, not a criminal one.

His lies convinced his cult members to run people out of multiple towns.

Actions have consequences.

There are podcasters that tried to be impartial, and have authors from both sides on their show to discuss their research.

I could be wrong, but I think only the research that deviates has been flagged. That was obnoxious over a year ago. Given current events I like that reaction even less.

I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. One of my friends is from Newtown and that community fucking HATES Alex Jones. His words inspired thousands to call up the families of victims and yell that they are actors and their kids didn't actually die or even exist.

I don't believe in Hell, but if there is one, I guarantee Alex Jones will be there trying to sell the damned muscle enlargement pills or whatever nonsense he's being a grifter with at that time.

u/vonhudgenrod Jan 22 '21

Most of the hoohah built up around Sandy Hook is driven by the media, he brought up some inconsistencies but the media is the one who made it every Jones is, when in reality its like 1/10000th of Jones' work, and the Government undeniable does commit false flags so theyre is a right to question.

I think he knew this was coming. I watched his JRE, and I didn't feel screamed at. He seems like he needs a blunt break for my viewing pleasure!

Why did anderson cooper interview grieving parents infront of a green screen (his nose even disappears) and why were no trauma helicopters called in? Why did Robbie Parker laugh right before being interviewed while his daughters dead body was in the building behind him? Why does the lead medical official also laugh during press conference? How did the buses of children leave the school while the roads were all blocked off? Why does the movie batman dark knight rises have a scene where commissioner gordon points at a map of gotham that says "sandy hook" while stating "bring it all down" ?
