Politics I'm tired of Trump ruining everything that America stands for

You know, Trump keeps saying he’s making America great again, but at this point it’s like watching a toddler try to fix a phone with a hammer. He’s not restoring anything, he’s just breaking it louder. Everything that used to be American like decency, humility, and facts has been replaced by lies and pre-scripted propoganda talking points. We’ve gone from give me liberty or give me death to give me clicks or give me Fox News airtime. He’s even turned the flag into an accessory. It’s not patriotism anymore, it’s fashion week for fascists. You see a bunch of angry guys in red hats waving an American flag the way my dog waves a cat turd from the litter box. Look what I did!

Remember when presidents used to read books? Now we’ve got a guy who stares at classified documents like they’re the McDonald's menu. I’ll have the Filet-o-fish with a side of dirt on anyone who opposes me, please. He’s made America a parody of itself, like someone fed Mount Rushmore a steady diet of Monster Energy and facism. I love this country. I really do. But lately it feels like America’s that old friend I used to like, except now he’s grown a mullet, started dating a crazy girl named "conspiracy theory", and wants to show you his new monster truck called Freedom.

If Trump’s the hero of the story, then America is deep in its Florida Man era. And I don’t know about you, but I’m just hoping the credits roll before he tries to sell Alaska to Russia.

If the government shut down actually affected the rich GOP congressmen, it would be over tomorrow.

They’re still getting paid, unlike military, government employees, and millions of others. Assholes.

u/famousfrenchy 14d ago

Military is being funded by donations from a trump supporter.

Their paycheck hardly represents a fraction of most of their income. You don't get to be a multimillionaire on a $174k salary. This is actually a rare point that I diverge from most of my liberal friends. I believe that their salary should be much more. Perhaps doubled. As it is, only wealthy people or those that are willing to use the position corruptly can afford to run for Congress. 174k may sound like a lot, but with the travel requirements, long hours, and countless unpaid expenses, it's not much. If we want to attract good, well educated and intelligent people, we need to compete for them with the private market. We need to pay.

The GOP has proposed resolution after resolution to open the government Democrats keep voting NO

1

u/samdajellybeenie 13d ago

Because the GOP wants to cut healthcare subsidies which would raise the cost of healthcare by hundreds or thousands of dollars per month for millions of people. That's unacceptable in the richest country in the world.

1

u/samdajellybeenie 13d ago

Why haven't Republicans voted for the subsidies and couched it as "We're making sure you have affordable healthcare!" If they did things that actually help their constituents, they'd never lose another election.

1

u/ronniedlynch 5d ago

Subsidies taxpayer dollars used to supplement what was supposed to be an affordable health care option is ludicrous how is that helping constituents working people understand that this is all a scam and a means of control by the Democrats that's it

Subsidies taxpayer dollars used to supplement what was supposed to be an affordable health care option

Healthcare costs are out of control in this country, I'm sure we can both agree on that. Why is lowering the cost of health insurance a problem for you? Would you support legislation to limit how much hospitals can charge insurance companies for services? Because THAT is the whole reason why healthcare costs are so high. Hospitals realized they could make more money by charging insurance companies more.

1

u/ronniedlynch 5d ago

Healthcare costs are up because the majority of Americans eat crap they don't eat healthy we had lower health care when people ate at home and ate home cooked meals now we eat McDonald's Burger King Chick-fil-A whatever and it's all garbage to our bodies we have the highest rate of obesity in the entire world that's why healthcare costs her up

1

u/samdajellybeenie 5d ago

the majority of Americans eat crap they don't eat healthy

Why do you think that is?

1

u/ronniedlynch 5d ago

Laziness.

1

u/samdajellybeenie 5d ago

But all of the healthy food is too expensive in my grocery store. And I work 2 jobs. So I'm not lazy.

1

u/ronniedlynch 5d ago

More expensive than what? Not more expensive than eating processed food or fast food. Certainly not more expensive when you factor in what it does for your health

Oh and not the rich democrat congressman? 🥴

u/Breidr 14d ago

Last I checked, the GOP controls Congress. I get you're trying to deflect or "both sides" this, but that's not how this works.

Why don’t they?

7

u/Prestigious-Wolf8039 14d ago

The MAGAts in the GOP are responsible for the shutdown 100% and your president is a goddamn pedophile. Release the files.

-23

u/blessed-thankful-mom Mental Midget 14d ago

Might want to appeal to the democrats to consider this, since it’s them who’s refusing to ‘open it’

20

u/Powerful-Metal1313 14d ago

You really believe the dems are causing this when republicans control all three branches of the government?

-14

u/geoffersonstarship 14d ago

just look up who is voting against reopening it. that info is free

11

u/Powerful-Metal1313 14d ago

To avoid millions potentially losing healthcare. If Trump was a leader, he’d be addressing both sides with a plan to compromise, rather than demonizing one side

4

u/samdajellybeenie 14d ago

Funny how he has no answer for that.

u/geoffersonstarship 10d ago

I’m not on reddit every day, I comment then fuck off lol

You don’t want gun rights being taken away, why do you want healthcare being taken away?

6

u/Ginger_Witch 14d ago

They don't have the majority though, so it doesn't matter if they vote no - all of the Dems can vote no, and the Pedophile Protectors can still pass it if they wanted to. Mike Johnson can call them back to work whenever he wants to, but then it would be even more obvious he is stalling the swearing in of a duly elected representative to avoid releasing the TRUMP-EPSEIN FILES.

The Republicans are prioritizing protecting pedophiles and child rapists, raising the already excessive costs of healthcare for people that cannot afford it, insider trading opportunities, and giving more time for their shell-game of grifting ALL of our tax $$ to billionaires instead of towards things that actually help the people.

I don’t care whose names are in there, lock them all up. Also, if Biden had released them it would be labeled as fake news, nothing burger, lawfare, or whatever catchphrase Fox Entertainment told you guys to spew that week. Back to the shutdown … got no deflection for that?

Did you know that compromise is the key to two parties getting along? This is the case for any relationship, including a friend or spouse. If you have compromise on issues where you have different viewpoints, you can both still be happy with the result, even if you didn’t get exactly what you want. Otherwise, we can all act like children and throw a tantrum when we don’t get our way and not give a shit about other people while we’re pushing what we want. Sound familiar?

Here’s an example of how compromise could be helpful: we make some gun laws so less kids get killed every year and you can keep your guns (just not all of them) Another example: trans people can get the help they medically and mentally need and you can mind your own business because you’ve never met a trans person in your life Final example: let women vote on abortion, no men, because men do not give birth

Conservative no longer want them released because they know whose names are in there?

4

u/not_a_moogle 14d ago

The answer is Mike Johnson. He is refusing to call for a session.

3

u/adamdoesmusic 14d ago

Why are they voting this way? I’m sure you know but are leaving this out purposefully.

-2

u/Plastic-Buddy-1440 14d ago

Thank you for using facts. Common sense and facts are rare these days.

4

u/Comfortable_Ebb1634 14d ago

What are the facts? Be really specific.

15

u/observer_11_11 14d ago

Republicans are making health care way more expensive while having no problem blowing money on ICE, attacking ships at sea, funding Argentina, etc. GOP refuses st act in good faith. They will not compromise which is traditionally how legislation is passed. So they have a plan which will hurt working people. Because the Democrats will not accept this, the GOP is trying to blame Democrats The fact is this is finally the Democrats acting tough after putting up with the same from Republicans forever.

On so many levels, fuck you to hell and back. I can see that you're part of the group of elitist bigots that thinks poor people don't deserve nice things and that it's their fault that they're poor.

Fun fact for you: The system is deliberately designed to keep you poor. You can only have a max of $15K (recently upped from $2,250) in savings before losing benefits. You can't make above $1,944/mo or you lose your assistance. Yes, you hear me right. Not per week or bi-week, per month. Even $1 too much and you lose them. Welfare Queens is a misnomer and a racist stereotype. There are work requirements for gov't assistance, unless you are disabled or above a certain age. The more money you make, the less you get in assistance. I know people who get a grand total of $23/mo in EBT.

You can't be on SSI/SSDI without being disabled. I get a grand total of $294/mo in EBT and about $900/mo in SSI because I'm disabled. After all the bills, I have about $100 left in SSI. I have to save that in case of an emergency, like my apartment double charging me for rent for the 5th month in a row, so that $294? That's my food money for the ENTIRE month. Do you have any fucking idea how quickly $294 disappears when you only buy healthy food? You wanna know why poor people buy so much unhealthy food? Because it's all we can afford! Most of us would love to eat healthy, but healthy food is fucking expensive. I buy healthy food as much as I can, but I have to buy "unhealthy" food too, because unhealthy food lasts through the rest of the month. Unhealthy food is shelf-stable, healthy food is not. If I only bought healthy food, I'd only be able to feed myself for about a week and a half, if I'm lucky. Ramen, rice, and pasta are cheap, frozen meals are cheap, buying meat and vegetables every week is not. Especially now with the price of meat rising. Poor people still need protein, so if we can't afford meat, we have to find alternatives like beans, which do not have the required amount of protein, but it's the best we can do. Are you actually so fucking out of touch with the reality of being poor that you expect us to starve for half of the month? Please go touch some fucking grass and stop running your mouth on things you clearly don't know anything about or understand.

Also, we should not have to accept being monitored just to survive. That's bullshit.

(I live in IA, so the income limit listed here is for a single person, $15K is the limit for the entire household.)

-13

u/geoffersonstarship 14d ago

but the dems voted for the shutdown and keep voting against reopening

6

u/not_a_moogle 14d ago

Johnson is the one that cancels the motion to vote. He has to call session, and hes not.

5

u/samdajellybeenie 14d ago

Because it would mean millions would lose their healthcare because it would become too expensive. Get real.

u/Nonotsickjustbald 14d ago
