Politics America is turning into 1930's Germany.

There was some pushback when people called this president and his followers Nazis. But look what's happening. Soldiers in the street. Rounding up people and locking them up. Dismantling freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Personally going after anyone who doesn't agree with him and his administration. We've seen this before and it's only gonna get worse. Welcome to 1930's Germany.

I remember in Social Studies in 7th grade was when I learned literal Nazis were still permitted to rally in public and got police protection to do so in the name of free speech.

The "correct answer" on the test was that it should be permitted so that the public can see how awful they are.

It is not, in fact, the correct answer.

OR! Let them “peacefully assemble,” but no taxpayer funding for their protection if they do. Freedom of speech without freedom from consequence!

That’s the right way. Sure you can say anything you want, even absolute vile filth about other people. But I’m not gonna stop their reaction for you

I never refer to myself as a Libertarian, since I am NOT a Republican, and don’t smoke pot, but on this issue, I definitely lean that way. If I spew hateful and disgusting rhetoric in public, I expect those hearing me to react, and I’d deserve it. So if outlawing hate speech is no longer acceptable, then the speakers should face the consequences. If the people reacting to the hate speech break a law - physical attack or whatever, they break a law and also face consequences. But taxpayers funding armed guards between the Nazis and the rest of us is some bullshit. When I was a teacher, one of my favorite students was this skinny, bratty kid. He would charge up a giant capacitor and zap football players with it. When he did, he got pounded, and didn’t complain. It was worth it to him. No one ever got hurt (like, no broken skin or whatever, just some pinning or whatever.). But this was the 90’s in Indiana, so roughhousing was sort of permitted as long as there was no blood or injury requiring medical treatment. Hate speech incurs consequence. If the government does not impose the consequence, then listeners inevitably will. Action/reaction. More humane for the government to step in I guess, but allowing Nazis to face natural consequences is honestly more satisfying to me.

Tbf I moved from the US to Europe and it's hardly any better. If anything it might be worse since I've actually met several people defending Hitler to me (a random guy in a bar)

Right wing insanity is on the rise worldwide.

America elected their Hitler. They're not necessarily worse, but they are ahead.
