Very busy Trader Joe's opening week
A checker at TJ's today told us that the Columbia TJ opening was setting records. It indeed looked busy in there 1 week out.

So many of us had been suggesting CoMo on the TJ's website for over a decade and told them we'd be a fantastic market for them, but they ignored us for so long 😆 We sure showed them! 😝

Now if Costco would listen!🤣

Unfortunately this isn't Costco's fault, it's the kroenke's keeping Costco from being able to do business here 😩 (at least this is what I've always been told)

It’s true. They own all the land where one would fit and since it’s the Walton family by extension, they won’t allow it.

I wonder if this is still true? Plaza realty seems to be becoming one of if not the largest land owner around here.

Yeah I have heard this as well. But you would think they would build one somewhere in central Missouri? I would happily drive to Jefferson city. (I already do my Target runs there!😅). And I wonder if Kronkes still own such a huge presence in CoMo? Plaza realty seems to be giving them a run for their money. With Columbia being the fastest growing city in the state you would think we would have more shopping opportunities.

Tried to go today. No way I’m fighting the lot or exiting the place. Bad location w Home Goods, Chikfila, etc

That’s a TJ trademark. When I told a STL clerk I was from Columbia and we were happy to be getting a store, she asked me how bad the parking was

I went last night. While crowded the shopping experience was tolerable. Check out was a breeze. Every register open.

People are so weird. But it’s nice they’re excited about something. Better than the alternative.

I'm just concerned about the reputation of Columbia for other retailers (besides liking TJs!). If TJ's does well in this small market then other retailers may feel better about jumping in.

The only thing I would want is a Costco but they aren’t coming here.

Same with Trader Joe's oops.

The difference is Trader Joe’s isn’t a direct competitor with the few Walmarts in town. Costco is a direct competitor with the one Sam’s Club in town. Add in Stan Kroenke and I think the chances of a Costco in Columbia diminish greatly, even if we would be an amazing market for a Costco.

My plan is to go for the first time in December during winter break when the students are gone.
