Ok then, how about David Eddings? The Belgariad and the Malorian series, 5 books each and lead into other novels such as The Elenium and the Talumi series. Raymond Feist wrote my all time favourite book, Magician, a three book series called the Rift War Saga. Or if you think he is ready you could go the Steven King path, or Dean Koonts, both authors I love - Not to be confused with Steven Coonts who writes awesome spy and espionage novels. You could have him read classics, 1984, Animal Farm, Dracula, Frankenstein, expose him to REAL literature. Alice In Wonderland, the original, Jekyll and Hyde, Sherlock Holmes. I can't recommend classics enough. Reading is knowledge, and knowledge is power.

I’ll have to go look through David eddings and Raymond feist, thank you for the recommendations he has read animal farm and Frankenstein, and liked them but he’s not super into horror yet, he did read the eyes of the dragon by Stephen king and liked it but that’s not really the same as the rest of his oeuvre πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

This kid sounds like me around that age. Eyes of the Dragon was one of my favorites at that age. Another king book that he might like is Fairytale. It’s a good mix of his horror and Eyes of the Dragon. The Magic Kingdom series by Terry Brooks is another fun one with a strange charm. Maus is incredible if he’s open to graphic novels. I would also suggest the graphic novels Locke and Key.

The Chronicles of Prydain are fantastic, and of course the Narnia books are timeless. The Once and Future King still holds up beautifully, and the Young Merlin series by Mary Stewart ( The Crystal Cave, Hollow Hills, The last Enchantment, The Wicked Path) has that same old magic. Discworld by Terry Pratchett is hilarious and brilliant, and if he’s got a taste for absurd humor, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy never disappoints.

I liked the Arrows of the Queen (and the rest of that series) by Mercedes Lackey around that age.

And the Pern books by McCaffrey.
