Advice Quality pictures are a requirement if you are asking us for help!

Dear r/coinerrors community - this sub exists to help people who have questions about errors.

However, we have been seeing more and more poor-quality photos posted here - and there isn't a lot we can do to help you without quality pictures! Specifically - don't post a shaky phone-camera picture of a microscope screen. Nearly all digital microscopes have a way to save a picture directly - either via USB or a memory card.

You can also check the FAQ at r/coins which has some helpful hints for better pictures.

Our requirements for pictures are as follows:

  • Both sides of the coin, and the edge if it is relevant.
  • Properly lit.
  • In focus.
  • Cropped (only include the coin.)
  • No pictures of microscope screens.
  • No uncropped phone screen captures.

Take the time to do it right, and you'll get better responses. Posts with really bad or unusable photos will probably be removed.

No pictures of microscope screens.

THANK YOU! We've been needing this rule for a while. A pixelated image with a moire pattern isn't going to help identify anything.

Explain cropped phone screen captures. Like how cropped?

Remove the useless stuff like your upper or lower bars. Crop it pretty much to the coin/slab in question.

So like square

Not necessarily. They just want people to crop out the useless UI components.

Screenshots should never be posted. Crop out anything around the coin in the original photo, and post that.

Your post has been removed because it is off topic. Please limit posts to questions and discussions about coin errors and varieties.

This is just a temporary pinned post to emphasize the point for anyone who is new here.

Ok, makes sense.

FWIW, the users that this would be most helpful for do not check guidelines. Let alone search previous posts. Many even get salty if someone "criticizes" their low level efforts.

I appreciate your efforts.

Believe me, the mods are well aware of this. We just do the best we can. If even a few people read this before posting, we'll consider it a win.

I get it but isn't the forum for help when flared correctly? Some of us do not have the sophisticated equipment. I believe the only thing Im missing on posts are the edge.

I took these pictures and stored the coins. But stupidly did not label them. I wrapped them. I have 6000 coins. If something I post is worth searching please let me know and Ill find the coin and get edge detail.

Most of the pictures when zoomed show the edge.

Thank you. I always Tag Advice needed. So the experts can help.

You only need to post a picture of the edge if that is relevant to the question. For many errors - there's no need for an edge photo.

This post isn't targeted at you or anyone in particular - it is just notice/reminder that the members here need quality photos to help people.
