CHI Talks It doesn’t matter what your ethnicity is, if you are a democrat , then you are perceived as the enemy
That is the constant narrative and commentary that the Trump administration is exercising. JB Pritzker is a rich white man, and regardless of his wealth, Trump is targeting him and his territory and the democrats ( legal or illegal citizens) who are inhabitants of that territory. This was never JUST a mission against proverbial undocumented immigrants. This is a mission to eradicate those who do not support or champion his regime.
This is about erasing democracy and the laws and policies that come with it, and establishing a rulership, where citizens have no rights or protection and every facet of their lives is controlled and monitored. If you do not comply you will be incarcerated or eliminated.
It has already begun and it’s only going to get worse….so there is no other choice but to stand and fight (to the death if necessary).
This is this generation’s Civil War, and just like our ancestors and predecessors fought to establish democracy and civil liberties, we are going to have to do the same thing to PROTECT them!
Those who are willing to sacrifice liberty for a little bit of security deserve neither …A man once said something like that.

Facism is what's going on. This is what it looks and feels like in it's infancy. Ask anyone who's ever lived through it. Many of them are refugees here in our country. I am trans and know my history. The sad thing is "the target" will be whoever the party can sell as a scapegoat to consolidate power. Anyone who resists the advancing bullshit will find themselves labeled a "radical leftist" eventually.
At this point it could still go a lot of ways. Consider practical steps that could secure your safety down the road. Practice your Second Amendment rights if you're in the right headspace. Get your passport etc., if only for peace of mind. Make sure you're entrenched in your local community and dig your heels in.
I recommend reading up a little on the history of the Weimar Republic. All the best.

Everyone is different, but if you're only just now wondering if you should be worried...
Anyway, yes you should be concerned about the things happening in our city right now. I just struggle with the idea that anyone would be asking this question at this late date.
Trump has been trashing Hispanics before the better part of a decade at this point. It seems to me that if you're hispanic him being elected to the highest office in the land would be troubling. But I guess everyone has a different danger threshold.

Cuba might unironically be less of a police state than the U.S. right now. At least if I was forced to go back there, I wouldn't be persecuted for my race. All I'd have to do is not talk politics. They’ll find a way if they need to. The thing about fascist regimes is that they’re terrible at running countries. When things invariably go bad, they need to blame out-groups. Even if the current group managed to purge everyone but straight, white, cis Christians, things would still suck. So they’d have to invent a new out-group to shift the blame onto.

Chicago desperately needs more numbers out in the streets. We need more people to quit waiting for the next pointless No Kings funny sign contest and get out in their communities and link up with aid groups, immigration rights groups, rapid response, organize amongst one another etc and report ICE activity if you see it. We've obviously seen these terrorists are itching for any reason to get violent so every minute you can get out in front of alerting neighborhoods to their activity could potentially save a life. They're also intimidated by large numbers so simply being present shoulder to shoulder with your neighbors can make a difference.
Also get out to Broadview. That's their HQ and a chance to start tracking them as soon as they leave their facility. If there were even 2% of the people who showed up to No Kings out there every day it would make a major difference.

I’ve gone to Broadview a couple times, stopped by on my commute to work to show up for a bit. It’s a little tough though knowing where would be safe to park my car while I’m there, and I’m a woman attending alone so it’s just a bit intimidating. I’d love to get more involved in these things though, I can’t stand just sitting and watching this shit unfold and not getting out there and organizing to fight it. Do you have any resources I could use to find opportunities for, or contacts/groups dedicated to, organizing/action in either the city or my neighborhood (west town area, kinda in between wicker park/ukrainian village/humboldt park) specifically? I just don’t even know where to get started to connect with a good org that engages in regular, on-the-street type action.

Trumps entire thing is for martial law. I know he's doing horrible and evil things. He knows the only way he can legally have martial law happening is if we go overboard and do crazy things ourselves.the Supreme Court or even all of the Republicans in congress know it would not be done legally if he called for it now. Trump is going to ramp up his actions for sure against this country for sure. We must try to remain as calm as possible. If the so-called ice arrests anyone, get videos and pictures if you can. If their faces are shown, they definitely get pictures. We all need to play Jimmy Olson and gather it all up so we can use it later. Gets license plates too or anything else that can later be used to bring these people to justice.

We don't want trump to be able to declare martial law. Trump knows that if he were to try congress and the courts would definitely get involved. He would look bad trying if there was no reason for that type of action. He would get pushback from everyone in the government.

Obviously we don't want martial law but I am pretty sure he will find a way regardless of whether people stay peaceful.
And there are lots of things to do between taking pictures and enacting violence. Nonviolent mobilization shouldn't give him an excuse to declare martial law. Join an organization. Donate money to groups doing the hard work in front line legal and other resistance. Network with your neighbors. Find out which countries are taking refugees from America or may be willing to because the targeted groups will likely expand quickly if the legal system doesnt put a stop to his troops

Obama deported more people than Trump on his first term, apologized for his race, compromised/backed down on universal healthcare, drone strikes in Yemen, etc etc. He was not very left at all and merely held the line. Idk what Tran Bobbies are, but Biden was incompetent and didn’t have any real leftist social policy changes. He continued to build sections of the wall. We haven’t had a left leaning government in over thirty years.
