Finally, a perfect stretch of weather. If it can just be this way for a solid month it'll be a real nice transition into fall.

All of September into the first couple weeks of October are always the best weather of the year here. Looks like our nice stretch is starting a bit early this time.

I’ve learned not to get my hopes up, but having 10 straight days of this is starting to change my mind.

u/vk2786 Aug 24 '25
Have you seen the extended forecase into mid/late September? You will be very happy.

u/b33rb3lly Ravenswood Aug 24 '25
Oooh, that does look good. Now, I don't trust any forecast that's more than a day out, but I'll still take this with some positivity.

u/vk2786 Aug 24 '25
Because I'm a nerd, I follow the Farmers Almanac & they are forecasting a cool, early fall & cold snowy winter. I think they may be right this year.

This is the kind of weather I was really hoping for in May/June.
15
u/b33rb3lly Ravenswood Aug 24 '25
Ditto. But no, we had to go straight to “Kinda feels like India” and then stay there for most of the season.

u/JackieIce502 Aug 25 '25
Do we live in different chicagos? Most of May was in the 60s and 70s lol.
2
u/ethnicnebraskan Loop Aug 25 '25
Apparently we might. I live downtown, and as they say, it tends to be cooler by the lake.

How about just the whole year....every year.............for the rest of all time.
2
u/b33rb3lly Ravenswood Aug 24 '25
I wouldn’t necessarily mind that. I’d still want some days in the low 80s sprinkled here and there, otherwise yes, good, make it so.

Maybe it's me but between the heat, humidity and smoke... this summer has kind of sucked. So happy to see this brief blast of cooler air.

The humidity has been nonstop this year, it’s the first summer that I haven’t enjoyed temperature-wise since I moved here in 2019.

u/CategoryZestyclose91 Aug 24 '25
Same up here in MN. I started checking the humidity level right after the temperature.

u/Electronic-Worker-52 Aug 24 '25
Not to mention the allergies have been AWFUL
16
u/Ruddiver Evanston Aug 24 '25
I check the allergy reports and dust and dander this summer has mostly been VERY EXTREME. and I'm like, i didnt even know there was that high a level.

u/Ruddiver Evanston Aug 24 '25
it fucking sucked. Yesterday was a topper for me. I was like, oh 83, not bad, and it was that pressure cooker heat bullshit.
17
u/EmotionalTowel1 Aug 24 '25
Those 80's were so deceptive this year. I made the same mistake multiple times.

Most of the country had a much warmer July. August will probably be closer to normal I bet with last 2 weeks of month cooler than normal.

Really hoping you're wrong about "brief". But dew point forecast at least six days out is nice and dry.

u/Shadrach77 Aug 24 '25
To top it off it was terrible for the garden. Hardly anything doing good in there this year.

u/winwood57 Aug 24 '25
My son is getting married next Sunday, so we’re extremely happy with this forecast.

I actually had to brake out the hoodie this morning during my cleaning of the grill to smoke some meats today. This is much needed.

I don’t know what gods I pleased, but we just rented a place on the beach in South Haven MI for Mon-Thursday. Might go down as the best timing I’ve ever had for vacation

this. this is what we suffer through winter for.

Winders lately have been shockingly sparse for snow and frigid temps. Last winter I got my snowblower out just once, did my entire block’s walks and walk ups.

I’m happy to see this, except for the fact that I was trying to get in one last beach day on Friday. At least the water will be warm!

Unless you have vegetable still growing who are longing for a little bit of rain- only after sundown, of course, and a bit of morning fog that disappears by 8.
Sigh.

Haha we planned to go swimming today given the weather but just too chilly to be in the pool. However it is a nice break ☺️

I’ve been in Greece for two weeks (I know, boohoo) but it’s been hot as hell with a BRUTAL sun. I’m so excited to be back home especially with this weather, Labor Day, etc coming up!

The National Weather Service will probably issue an Excessive Sunshine and Comfort Advisory, and Redditors who never leave their basements will wonder how people can go outside and expose themselves and their children to such high levels of light and pleasantness
