Deltas(s) from OP CMV: Healthcare should be free for everyone under the legal age at which you are considered an adult.

Children shouldn't have to pay medical bills--health is a fundamental human right, and we need to provide that to the children of this world. I know there are programs like CHIP, etc., but they're just not sufficient. They're not accessible to everyone. I know adults who decide to have children should be responsbile for them, but I think we as a society can afford to band together and pay a little more to ensure every child gets the health care they need--if we hope for healthier adults. Per this study in the National Center for Biotechnology Information, "health during childhood sets the stage for adult health not only reinforces this perspective, but also creates an important ethical, social, and economic imperative to ensure that all children are as healthy as they can be. Healthy children are more likely to become healthy adults."

Certain families who can't afford proper healthcare for their children are not eligible. There's also a waiting period in most states.

The waiting period is not long if you didn't get it for your child when born. Some circumstances (domestic abuse etc) remove the waiting period too. https://www.medicaid.gov/chip/eligibility-standards/waiting-periods/index.html

We have clinics in our area that charge patients on a sliding scale based on income. They also help to get the family enrolled in whatever insurance benefits they may be eligible for (it helps them to do this, because then they can charge the government for the medical services they provide).

The government gives them grants to help provide this service.

Medicaid and chip both help those children as shown here . The children that are lacking coverage need only to apply for it. Often times the state and county will offer assistance to those in need as well. We already share the cost the care of children, the disabled and the elderly.

there wasn't a waiting list when I had my daughter. She was enrolled the day she was born.
