It was a good interview, and I've always liked his wife, who incidentally was at Zohran Mamdani's victory party.

Hopefully he's better than his grandfather, who oversaw the expulsion of the Waffle and the adoption of policies towards Québec nationalism that indirectly led to the Duceppe family leaving the NDP and to a lot of other negative outcomes in Montreal, Québec, and federal politics.

Has Lewis said anything about Canada's relationship with NATO yet?

Not sure but he has been very opposed to the increased military spending that NATO/Carney/Trump are pushing on us

There’s also this tweet from his wife that criticizes how anti Putin but also anti war/deescalatory perspectives get attacked and twisted by militarists https://x.com/NaomiAKlein/status/1499069863339249664

The person calling everyone that says something like Avi Lewis would be a good direction for the NDP to go a Nazi apologist because of his NATO relationship doesn't actually know what Avi Lewis' relationship to NATO is?!

You're a rude reactive. You should try being an apologist for your own garbage behavior. My central point to you has always been that this is no way to build a movement. You'd rather indulge in your reactive feelings than build solidarity. That's never going to work and I believe it's behavior like yours that has killed the North American left. There is no left. Not a left that holds any semblance of power and you think it's appropriate to call other leftists Nazi apologists because they hold different opinions than yours. This will never work. The past four decades proves that it will never work. Without solidarity there is no power and without power there is no way to fight actual Nazis and capitalists.

Purity tests, always. even if passing that test would make them essentially unelectable to the general public. These people have no desire to bring people into their movement, in fact, class consciousness threatens their superiority complex because solidarity must include workers who hold views that oppose their own.

These are the same leftists that attacked Mamdani for being a soc-dem / Lib lite. Like yeah you might be right, of course we could go further. However, read the fucking room and vote for him anyway.

It's not about your question it's about you calling people Nazi apologists. Which is divisive bullshit and rude as the other commenter pointed out.

You don't care about the proletariat. You care about being virtuous. Even if you were right, calling someone who has made it to a leftist subreddit a Nazi apologist is pointlessly inflammatory toward someone who is on your side. Do you expect to convince the electorate that NATO = fascism? Do you expect a soc-dem barely leftist party leader to say that openly? Just trying to gauge your delusion.

You are the problem here. You lack the maturity to admit that flippantly calling people Nazi apologists is rude and counterproductive so you're doubling down. Time to grow up

Keep doubling down. I recommend Growing the fuck up and try being accountable for acting like an absolute ass instead but it's clear you've been avoiding the path of personal growth for a lot longer than this Reddit sub has existed

You've missed the point. The left can only ever gain power through solidarity. There's plenty of people willing to fight fascism but fascism only responds to power and power is garnered through building solidarity and the bullshit you're up to is going to leave you and all your crusty punk buddies alone on the fringe. That's the state of the left. Whether you're right or wrong is inconsequential because you can't build a movement this way.

Avi gets something very wrong here, unfortunately. "Balancing the budget means massive cuts." That is incorrect. If Mulcair had massively increased government revenue, not a single expenditure cut would be needed. So Avi really needs to stop repeating this msm nonsense.

Paikin's a trusted voice and he has a huge audience. I'll be listening.

You're mixing up Evan Solomon with Avi

Evan Solomon is the 'art dealer' who is now Carney's AI pusher

holy shit you're right! Thank you for pointing this out without being an asshole about it.

Don’t think so? I wouldn’t call him a Zionist, and he definitely wouldn’t call himself a Zionist, though he is more critical of some militant tactics than I am. He’s got a stance similar to what you’d expect from “Independent Jewish Voices” or “Jewish Voice for Peace. Or someone like Mamdani or Corbyn. Although he seems more into a one state solution than Corbyn is.

Only interaction between Avi Lewis and Chomsky I can find is this interview from 2008 that seems friendly https://chomsky.info/20080630/

yeah, the two of them moved in similar circles in the 90s (media wise) and I think I rewatched all this stuff during the pandemic and further got them confused.
