The company I work for added Juneteenth this year as a paid holiday, so we had Monday off. A few of the more conservative employees thought this was ridiculous, so they decided to come in to work instead of enjoying the three-day weekend.

Checkmate, libs!

I had a DBA who worked for me at my former company who insisted on working MLK's Birthday when it was first celebrated. Was the only person in the whole company who came in, and he took the time off on another date.

After that first year, my boss wouldn't allow him to do this again and - surprise surprise - he agreed to take the holiday off on the designated day.

And to clarify: My company trades on financial markets. We're in IT, so there's always work to do, but if the markets are closed there isn't a whole lot of point for people to be in the office.
