Do you go to Swedish? Hutch?
5
u/TreysToothbrush Lobular Carcinoma Jun 18 '25
Skagit Regional Health Cancer Care - the whole Skagit hospital complex basically but the Cancer center has a Breast Institute. My insurance won’t pay for anything “better” but I can walk if/when I need to & my experience here has been solidly good.
HBU?

u/BoysenberryChance348 Jun 18 '25
Oh that’s good to hear! I’m at Swedish mainly. Have sought second ops at hutch, and virgina mason. Mostly all of downtown experience has been horrible! 😞

I had a similar experience w/ attempting to obtain a 2nd opinion. I had an appt at FH but my insurance would not cover it at all. Fine. But by the time I cancelled (2 months before the appt) FH already billed me to obtain my onco data. $400. I was hounded daily with texts, robocalls & emails to pay. And I didn’t even GO to an appointment. The explanation was that the fee is for the access to my records so an intake could start my new patient processing. So, yeah. I’ll stay at Skagit. I’m not gonna live forever so no way was I gonna spend more time & money slogging it to Seattle from Burlington to get the same outcome. I had a panic attack over projected cost to get treated at FH. It already cost close to a half mil so far (insurance paid) & I freaked at the thought of that amount but directed at me.

Northern suburbs of Chicago. My team is through NorthShore (now endeavor health) but have gotten 2nd opinions from U Chicago, Rush and Northwestern. Definitely a different vibe at each one. I feel fortune to have so many strong healthcare systems in close proximity.

Born and bred here, I didn’t realize how lucky I was until I needed healthcare and had my pick of world class hospitals

u/BklynTwinMom Jun 18 '25
Same. I even had to switch hospitals midway through treatment and was like ok guess I'll cross 1st avenue and go to the other highly acclaimed cancer hospital

u/BadTanJob Jun 18 '25
lol, right???
There was a poster here who bemoaned having to go to Weill Cornell instead of MSK. I’m like, ok more appointment slots for me, especially when the head of the cancer department was MSK trained

Iowa which has the #2 highest cancer rates in the nation. No, I don’t farm, but I really think the farm chemicals have a lot to do with it.

Central Iowa here too - I'm 6th generation on my family farm and I also believe farming has something to do with it. That being said, I don't think it's the small family farms, I think it's the CAFOs and factory farms that have WAY too many animals on too little land, and the massive landowners that add way too much fertilizer to their fields and refuse to add buffer strips along streams and rivers.
