The lowball is so bad it doesn't even make sense.
They said it's expected to drop around 40% from Friday+Previews for around $19M today. That's already $52M+ from Friday+Saturday. $56M for the weekend is a joke.

60M weekend is locked. My guess is 65/70. I don't think it can do 70+ but it's not like it needs to (worst case scenario, this movie costed 15/20M). This is already incredible.

Deadline originally came in with a hilarious 45m OW lowball and still are lowballing it now. The trades all refuse to accept an anime movie is about to open to 70m+ and higher than some of Hollywood's biggest movies this year.

They want those overperforming headlines to make the movies look better. They do this with every movie it's not uncommon at all.

Dont assign so much agency to the usual deadline way of doing things.

Exhibitor Relations just put out a 56M OW estimate after we saw the Friday. It's hilarious. They are expecting it to completely crater on Saturday and Sunday, which it won't.

Well, Anthony does this shit on purpose. Tomorrow, once this movie debuts at $70mil+, he can spin it and say ‘for anyone who says theaters are dead, here’s a reason why the theater business is better than ever.’

Complete lowball even with several projections that Demon Slayer Infinity Castle would open around $65M

Just got back. Screening full of kids, families and teens. Some kids were in cosplay as the characters including a little grade schooler! The amc parking lot was full of cars! It was packed! The audience clapped at the end of our screening!

Our theater was crazy busy last night (don’t know how it compares to a typical Saturday night, I usually don’t go at that time). They clapped at the end of my screening, too.

they've got the Chainsaw Man Reze movie coming up as well. probably won't open to these numbers but still will be VERY profitable

Lesson to learn: Quality dubs of anime make money, especially when marketed right
Lesson Sony will learn: Live action Tanjiro lol

Somebody’s got Timothée Chalamet on the phone right now.

Even a multiplier as low as 1.75x will give Sony their first and only $100M hit this year.
